Community health advocates and some aldermen called Tuesday for creation of a crisis response team that excludes police officers to help people experiencing mental health emergencies. “Currently, the city’s response to crises has been done and managed exclusively by the city’s police department,” said Arturo Carrillo, lead organizer for the Collaborative for Community Wellness, a citywide coalition of community groups. “As a result, the largest mental health provider in this city and this country is Cook County Jail.” Instead, Carrillo, a licensed social worker, said the crisis response team would be staffed by paramedics and social workers and operated by the Chicago Department of Public Health.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden struggled significantly on Tuesday night when pressed over his apparent lack of support from law enforcement groups and was unable to name a single law enforcement organization that supports him when pressed on the issue by President Donald Trump. As Biden tried to defend his record on the issue of law enforcement, Trump interjected, “He doesn’t have any law support. He has no law enforcement [support].”“That’s not true,” Biden replied. “Oh, really, who do you have?” Trump fired back. “Name one group that supports you. Name one group that came out and supported you. Go ahead, think, we have time.”

House Republicans are pushing to seal the deal on a host of policies to withdraw vital American industries from China in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The GOP-chartered House China Task Force issued a report on Wednesday that calls in part for Congress to enact the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act's bevy of policies. Those policies, many of which have already passed the House, aim at reducing U.S. supply chain dependency on the Chinese Communist regime, which the report labeled a risk to American safety and prosperity. Imagine the reaction of the public to a new virus outbreak that targeted children, sending 10 times as many to hospitals, and killing 13 times as many as COVID-19. Would you call the government’s handling of this pandemic a success? That is what happened in 2009 when the H1N1 – aka, the swine flu – pandemic swept across the land. While the total number of deaths from the swine flu was much lower than COVID-19, its impact on children and younger adults was far more severe. Consider these numbers: According to the Centers for Disease Control’s latest numbers, out of the more

It’s crystal clear that the media branch of the Democrat party thinks that Joe Biden blew it last night and damaged his electoral prospects in the first of 3 scheduled debates with President Trump. There seems to be pretty widespread consensus on the left that when it comes to Biden, the less voters know about him by watching him in a presidential spotlight, the better. (snip) "This is a disgrace, a low point in American debate history. There is no reason, not one, that Joe Biden should participate in another debate," MSNBC host Joe Scarborough tweeted.

If I were a betting woman, I’d say that, over the next month, we’re going to see a steady drip, followed by an onrushing stream, of information about the corrupt origins and practices behind the Russia hoax. (snip) The CIA learned through intercepts that Russia believed Hillary planned to raise false claims against Trump, accusing him of dirty dealings with the Russians. Brennan took this information to Obama and other national security people. A month later, a letter went to the FBI telling them that they needed to look into Hillary’s alleged dirty dealings. So what did Comey and Strzok do? They went after Trump.

Chris Wallace’s overt defense of Joe Biden throughout the debate on Tuesday night was so obvious, so blatant, he should be proscribed from ever “moderating” a debate again. Wallace’s performance was as Biden’s protector, his advocate, and that is undeniable. He stepped in at every moment Biden seemed lost: court-packing, lack of support of law enforcement, and Hunter’s criminality. The debate was so poorly managed. The questions were designed to aid Biden, to coddle him. No wonder Trump felt duty-bound to interrupt. Trump was debating both Wallace and Biden and only one of them is sentient.

President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, spent more than an hour during the first presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio, brawling over how best to manage the deadly coronavirus crisis, taxes, climate change, and a host of other domestic policy issues. The messy debate frequently turned nasty, featuring shouting matches and repeated interruptions that left the moderator — Fox News’ Chris Wallace — and our panel of election experts deeply frustrated.“Both landed some shots. Both interrupted too much and acted like children,” said Matt Mackowiak, a longtime Republican strategist, podcast host

CLAIM: Debate moderator Chris Wallace implied that President Donald Trump never condemned white supremacists. VERDICT: FALSE. President Trump has done so repeatedly, despite what Wallace — and Joe Biden — have suggested. During the first presidential debate, Wallace challenged President Trump to condemn white supremacists. It was an astonishingly ill-informed — and inflammatory — challenge, and repeated a lie that Biden has told frequently in the campaign. Trump has condemned white supremacists repeatedly. As Breitbart News noted in a recent fact check: ABC News fact-checked Biden, and noted — commendably — that Trump condemned white supremacists

The short version of the debate is that Biden did well if one ignored that almost every other statement he made was a lie or fantasy; Trump dominated him, almost too aggressively; and Chris Wallace may have been the worst and most obviously biased moderator since Candy Crowley. Most significantly, though, Biden and Trump each made a critical point. Biden’s was a tacit admission that, if he is elected president, he will preside over the end of the filibuster, allowing Democrats to pack the courts and add two new Democrat-majority states. Trump’s point was that he’s holding damning evidence about the Democrats’ coup attempt.

Chris Wallace was always going to be a terrible choice as a moderator for any of the three presidential debates, let alone the first one, but good God, did he fulfill that destiny with flying colors. We knew it back in July when Wallace attempted to fact-check President Trump on the accurate claim that former Vice President Joe Biden was on the record committing to defunding police departments. Biden is, in fact, on record committing to that, and yet, Wallace pretended we hadn't heard it with our own ears. A couple of days ago, Powerline’s Paul Mirengoff observed that ‘Going back at least as far as Ronald Reagan, incumbent presidents have not done well in first debates.’ Was that true tonight? Yes and no. President Trump interrupted too often, he did not respond to Chris Wallace’s questions or Joe Biden’s assertions with the specificity that his record has armed him with. For his part, Joe Biden did not drool in his shoe or utterly lose the thread of the discussion. So he exceeded expectations. The whole performance was odd. I tuned into C-SPAN to avoid the other droolers. There was the usual boosterism from the organizers of the event.

There is something so extraordinary about Jewish holy days when they are observed as they are meant to be. When one observes the Shabbat or the holy days in the Orthodox Jewish manner, a side blessing is that one gets to live 25 complete hours without hearing or watching the “news.” Imagine — a full day of no lies, no scandals, no defamation,

Before very long into Tuesday night’s first presidential debate, held at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, it was pretty clear what President Trump’s strategy was. Trump knew going in that moderator Chris Wallace would step on pretty much all of his answers and bail Joe Biden out whenever he could. And because of that obvious expectation, Trump would harass Biden and flummox Wallace for the full 90 minutes. It didn’t matter whether Trump looked obnoxious in doing it — he was one against two, and he’d have to hold his own the best he could.

President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden went head-to-head on Tuesday night, and moderator Chris Wallace got knocked out. Wallace seemed to push left-wing talking points to help Trump and hurt Biden, but both candidates talked over him. Trump and Biden brought out the fisticuffs and both got in a few good hits. Biden stumbled but he did not come across as a bumbling fool. While Trump and Biden both went on the offensive, Trump got in more clear statements and Biden came across as shifty, especially on packing the Supreme Court.

A  hot mess does not make for a great debate. Or an interesting one or even an entertaining one. America was mistreated Tuesday. A highly anticipated showdown in a closely fought presidential election in a deeply divided country had the potential to be a clarifying moment. Instead, it was a sweaty, formless flop. Worse, it was annoying. Neither the candidates or moderator Chris Wallace acquitted themselves well. Joe Biden was sharp and coherent enough, though he relied heavily on notes in front of him.

A tidal wave from the mainstream media is speculating whether the two remaining debates between President Trump and Joe Biden should even be held after their brutal first showdown Tuesday night in Cleveland. There appears to be a wide consensus about the messy and ugly nature of the first debate -- which was filled with interruptions and insults. Two more debated are scheduled for Oct. 15 and Oct. 22, with a vice presidential debate set for Oct. 7. During MSNBC's post-debate coverage, "ReidOut" host Joy Reid questioned her colleague Nicolle Wallace, who has worked on presidential campaigns in the past, if Biden should bother showing up to the next debate.
