A Florida woman says she was forced to forfeit her lotto prize after the US Postal Service lost her winning ticket in the mail. Sue Burgess, of Hernando County, said she was thrilled to discover earlier this summer that she snagged $1,000 in the state’s Second Chance Lottery game, news station WFLA.
“I was elated. It was like winning a million dollars to me,” Burgess told the outlet. But at the time, she couldn’t claim her winnings at any of the local lottery offices since they were closed due to the pandemic.
She followed the state lottery’s instructions and went to the post office

The USPS can't even deliver certified mail.
By all means, let's entrust a presidential election to them.

I haven't trusted the mail to deliver vital or valuable items for years. In 1975 half of the thank you notes I sent out for my wedding were never delivered. Of course they were on my husbands side of the family. Believe me, that caused me untold misery for me, for years. Shortly after the wedding, however, I did receive a post card from "Mr.Moose" of the Captain Kangaroo show from a contest I had entered when I was five.
I feel bad for this poor woman. It would be interesting to see if they can track the mail and find it for her. I wonder if, because it was addressed to the lottery, that it might have been intercepted along the way.
We moved recently and now I receive an e-mail from the USPS every day with a picture of every item we will be getting that day...right down to catalogs, flyers and junk mail. I noticed yesterday, that I could see the contents of the mail through the envelope. Luckily it was junk mail but I'm concerned about the more important things showing through the same way.
How does the USPS have the time to scan and send me a daily e-mail preview of the mail, that I will receive in a few hours? I thought they had no money?

Somewhere in the universe is a check I mailed to a credit card company 18 yrs ago. It has never been cashed. It is the only time in my 55 years of paying bills that I have ever had to pay a late charge and interest.
My spouse went to a doctors appointment a couple of months ago - 20 mile roundtrip. The office said her appointment had been rescheduled a month prior - " didn't you get the letter?" She did the following day - postmarked 30 days earlier.
I will go to the poll thank you

Certified mail doesn't mean squat , I found that out dealing with the IRS. Between the Post Office and the IRS my 2019 tax filing was an unmitigated disaster . I finally got results and the IRS "graciously" dropped the late charge on my "complex" 1040 A.

So what are the chances some postal worker is $1000 richer today?

I agree about the post office comments, but does the Florida Lottery office not have modern technology? No bar codes on the tickets for the winner to scan and send in to at least verify the win pending presentation to the office? Mailing a lottery ticket is an accident waiting to happen..

So far the post office is doing just fine delivering my mail. I live in Maryland, and I've yet to receive any ballot from South Carolina.

Much ado about little. The State Lottery and the USPS are working together to try to get her money for her.
Good idea to read entire article.

She should have written on the outside of the envelope: "CONTAINS A MAIL-IN BALLOT FOR BIDEN/HARRIS". Would have been delivered promptly.

USPS, even when they get it right eventually can be amazingly inefficient.
I sent an envelope to a nephew, hadn't heard that they had just moved, military duty station change. The package took 17 days (we tracked it) to travel from Ga, eventually back to KC, we thought it would be returned, but no, then on to Chicago, then to Tenn, then to NC and .....finally it was delivered. Yayyy!
They did succeed, but 17 days from Ga to NC? I can drive it in about 6 or 7 hours.

The USPS is getting increasingly worthless. I ordered some Trump face masks on September 6 and didn' get them until today. That's 24 days. According to tracking, they sat in one USPS facility for two weeks. And it would be Trump masks that just sat there!!!

I just received a package from CA - it had been sliced open, but apparently the thief didn't like the contents, an electric train. It arrived with no damage or loss, but the postal workers merely placed a rubber band around it instead of taping up the package length slice.

I mailed a birthday gift to someone 18 miles away. It took six weeks. I had to call a USPS supervisor on the other end. Took two weeks after I called, but they got it.
Not sure about "Second Chance" tickets, but you can turn in an ordinary lottery ticket that size in any store that sells lottery tickets.

It's for the children, Ms. Burgess. Remember that and you'll be fine.

Ordered an item off of Ebay eleven days ago and it arrived at a regional post office 20 miles from my home nine days ago. Still waiting for it to be delivered.
