The Nation, a storied left-wing magazine, pondered the possibility of secession in an interview published Tuesday morning. The idea has been circulating on the left over the past few weeks, as Democrats ponder the possibility of President Donald Trump being re-elected. Though many mainstream media polls show former Vice President Joe Biden with a lead, the polls have been wrong before — and Trump is running a confident, energetic campaign, while Biden is barely leaving his house. Reporters for CBS News and other outlets were sent scrambling Monday morning after an aggressive raccoon began attacking news crews outside the White House. CBS News’ Paula Reid was the first to break the news of the attack, which targeted one photographer and one correspondent. “Strong Pawnee vibes at White House this morning as a raccoon attacked multiple news crews on North Lawn,” Reid noted, referencing the fictional Indiana town central to the comedy series, “Parks & Recreation. “🦝 allegedly grabbed pant leg of a photographer & then a corespondent (sic) before being fended off.”

One of Eastern Europe’s longest frozen conflicts has exploded into a hot war in recent days, with clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh killing dozens of people and threatening to drag nearby Turkey and Russia into a direct military confrontation. While Moscow has long backed Christian Armenia and Ankara has openly supported the largely Muslim Azerbaijan, regional analysts say the situation has grown more complex and dangerous recently amid escalating Turkey-Russia tension on other fronts — from Syria to Libya and the wider Eastern Mediterranean. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has also become increasingly tied to Moscow-Ankara

The New York City Board of Elections is blaming a vendor for an egregious error on absentee ballots mailed to voters in Brooklyn that could cause their votes to be thrown out–even if they follow the rules to the letter. The reason is that the absentee ballots were sent out with return envelopes that were mismatched and bear the names and addresses of other voters so that if the person signs the envelope with their own name it won’t be counted as the signature would not match the name on the mistakenly sent return envelope.

We are in the process of looking into the validity of those statements,” the department said. The force added that “no further information is available at this time,” including whether the Democratic congresswoman would be involved in the initial investigation.

Trump denied the charges, but the left ignored him. However, an astute Twitter user noted something that others missed: While the Times wrote the report to imply that Trump paid only $750 in taxes for several years, a careful reading reveals that Trump did pay millions in taxes, plus an additional $750.

Joseph R. Biden Jr. was frustrated as he tried last year to prepare for an unwieldy debate season that stuffed as many as 11 other Democratic rivals onto a single stage.
