California is the first state in the nation to consider reparations for those harmed by slavery and racial discrimination. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill on Wednesday that will create a task force to study the issue. "After watching last night's debate, this signing can't come too soon," Newsom, a Democrat, said on a phone call announcing the decision. The legislation, Assembly Bill 3121, calls for a nine-member task force to document the historical and present impact of enslavement on African Americans and to "[r]ecommend appropriate remedies." Those recommendations, including the possibility of "full reparations," are to be presented in

Go ahead. California, and decide to pay reparations. Within six months every African-American in the country will have taken up residence in California.

Didn't know that California participated in slavery. Sorry, but the past 60 years of Great Society and other Democrat failed social engineering should have more than adequately repaired any damages done by slavery. After all, the live on the government lifestyle that so many have become accustomed to has become the "family business" for many black (white also) families where generations live on the dole and learn from each other how to game the system to gain more and more benefits, never needing to work because they are kept down by the white man.

This is getting too funny. The illegal aliens are going to have to cough up some cash to pay the Crips and Bloods for owning their ancestors as slaves in the Caribbean ? And in the meantime everybody in California who never owned a slave will move to (please) Colorado.

Fools. California was a free non-slavery state when it entered the Union in 1850. So exactly who are they 'owing' reparations to?

California is so strapped for cash I can't imagine the state recovering any time soon. Do they really want to throw away money on the same people our government has been throwing away money on for generations?
Blacks will never prosper unless their culture changes and values hard work and education. It is not the job of California taxpayers to change their lives.

Until 1848 Alta California was part of Mexico and was populated primarily by Mexicans. In 1848 it 'threw off' Mexico and in 1850 it became a state in the USA. 13 years later the emancipation proclamation freed all slaves in the USA. During those 13 years California was a free State in the Union.
So.... reparations for what????? Slavery was NEVER legal in California except maybe when it was a part of Mexico.
Could someone in the cesspool called San Francisco or Sacramento please convey these fact to our ignorant Gov. Newsom.
So....

Take a look over to your left at the 'Suck-Up' meter for California.
The needle is pegged and it's beginning to bend !!!!!
NO AMOUNT of 'guilt payments' will EVER be enough. There isn't enough wealth on this entire planet to satisfy all of the 'victims' clamoring for money because, MAYBE, some remote relative, 8 generations ago, was a slave.

is there no end to the ridiculosity being foisted on the people of California? the California government has sent the Soviet and Chinese governments back to the starting blocks for re-training. the real commies could learn a thing or two from gavin and his gang of thugs.

Yes, as other posters have noted, it will attract a lot of black folks to California. A state in fiscal free-fall that has no reasonable way to fund this stupidity.
But, the politicians there know that this will be a great harvest of new democrat voters.

Get in line: Native Americans & Mexicans in CA. In Joe Robinette’s states, PA and DE, reparations are needed for Irish, Italians, Puerto Ricans, Yugoslavians in Scranton’s coal mines, and a host of other ethnic groups. What about all gays and, lest I forget, all women. We have many sins to atone for.

I thought CA was broke. They're always whining about how much fed money they want handed to them. Where are they going to get the money? From white privilege working folks? After all, isn't that where all handouts come from? Uncle Sugar White Privilege suckers?
