A new documentary examines the activities of alleged Somali gang members in Minneapolis. Posted to YouTube earlier this week, the 30-minute documentary was produced by Tommy Gerszewski, who goes by the name Tommy G on his various social media platforms. During the course of “Inside a Somali Gang War,” Gerszewski speaks with various Somalis living in Minneapolis. Many of the individuals featured in the video flash hand signs and use masks to hide their faces.

Five people are being treated at a hospital after a single-vehicle crash in north Minneapolis. Minneapolis Police Sgt. Garrett Parten says it happened at around 8:20 a.m. Sunday along Dowling Avenue North at Interstate 94. According to Parten, five women were in the vehicle when it rolled, and one had to be extricated by firefighters. All five were taken to a hospital, three with injuries that are considered possibly life-threatening, Parten says.

Two rideshare cooperatives say they’re getting ready to hit the streets of the Twin Cities as Uber and Lyft prepare to stop their services in the area. Friday afternoon, the Minnesota Uber Lyft Drivers Association (MULDA) hosted a press conference to introduce the two companies — Hich and Drivers Cooperative, also known as Co-op Ride. A representative for Hich, Mustafa Sheika, says they currently operate in Canada and Africa.

The two largest freight railroad companies operating in Minnesota have told state officials they are not going to make the roughly $1 million payment that’s required under a new state law intended to improve rail safety. Minnesota’s chief legal officer is among a group of 13 attorneys general that have notified pistol manufacturer Glock of a possible lawsuit over how easy it is to turn its pistols into machine guns. Attorney General Keith Ellison was joined by the attorneys general for 11 other states, plus the District of Columbia, in its letter to Glock.

Disturbing video of a group of boys shoving a smaller student against lockers before beating him up at a Minneapolis school has surfaced online. Video footage showed the shocking moment a terrified middle schooler is backed up against a wall of lockers by a group of apparent bullies. Over three years ago, city officials applied for a nearly $1 million grant to reduce crime and drug overdoses, but it was denied. (snip) After the murder of George Floyd, some Minneapolis City Council members made a bold statement with a “Defund Police” sign on a stage, and it had consequences. Under the Trump administration in 2020, the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s acting director was in charge of awarding grants.
