The administration has set a cap of admitting no more than 15,000 refugees in fiscal year 2021, marking the lowest number on record and completing President Trump’s goal of restructuring the modern refugee system. The number marks the fourth straight year of cuts—last year’s cap was 18,000—and underscores the deep political divide between Mr. Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden, who has said he would set the cap at 125,000 refugees. State Department officials informed Congress of Mr. Trump’s number just before a midnight Thursday deadline, when the fiscal year began. And they set the number without the consultation the law

A federal judge Thursday halted a Justice Department commission studying issues plaguing the law enforcement community from releasing its report because the panel excluded civil rights leaders. U.S. District Judge John Bates ruled the much-ballyhooed Presidential Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice violated the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which requires government committees to receive input from “fairly balanced” viewpoints. Judge Bates, a George W. Bush appointee, wrote in his 45-page opinion that the commission was full of law enforcement officials, but none of the members have “a criminal defense, civil rights, or community organization background.”

The US Navy SEALs have changed their creed statement to become gender-neutral and have eliminated terms such as “brotherhood,” according to a report. “Naval Special Warfare continues to deliberately develop a culture of tactical and ethical excellence that reflects the nation we represent, and that draws upon the talents of the all-volunteer force who meet the standards of qualification as a SEAL or SWCC,” Navy Special Warfare spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Stroup told American Military News.(Snip) Instead of “A common man with uncommon desire to succeed,” it now says: “Common citizens with uncommon desire to succeed.” Another alters “I am that man”

Mia Green, a 29 year old who fatally shot in Philadelphia on Monday, is the latest transgender woman killed in what the city calls an “epidemic of violence” against trans people.
NBC reports that during a Monday morning traffic stop, police found Green, who was shot in the neck, in the passenger seat of a car driven by Abdullah lbn El-Amin Jaamia, 28, who was charged with murder on Tuesday.(Snip) The shocking case follows another killing earlier in the year in Philadelphia, when Dominique Rem’mie Fells, a black trans woman, was found floating dismembered in the Schuylkill River in West Philadelphia in June.

Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden flatly denied at Tuesday night’s debate that his lawyer son took huge sums of money from corrupt oligarchs and Chinese communists during his vice presidency, but Treasury Department reports show that Hunter Biden did receive the money. President Trump chose to make an issue of Hunter Biden’s cash haul from Russia, Ukraine and China with the implication that unsavory figures were trying to buy Vice President Biden and the Obama administration.(Snip) Hunter Biden received a single wire transfer of $3.5 million from Elena Baturina. The Senate report said she became a billionaire through illegal construction contracts awarded

Korboi Balla was honored when Donald Trump’s staff invited him to join the president for a rally at the MSP Airport this summer to speak about how rioters burned down his Minneapolis sports bar. But the Liberian immigrant also worried about backlash from the Black community, which overwhelmingly votes Democrat. Balla doesn’t closely follow politics and is still undecided in the election. He just wanted to talk about what happened to his business.(Snip) Some entrepreneurs of color who suffered losses from the riots after George Floyd’s death are wrestling with the political implications of Trump using their stories to blame Democrats for permitting the chaos

A group of Pennsylvania lawmakers posed topless to help remind voters to avoid submitting so-called naked mail-in ballots. “Desperate times call for desperate measures!” Allegheny County Councilwoman Bethany Hallam tweeted on Saturday. “So your favorite elected officials got naked so that you remember to make sure that your mail-in ballot is NOT submitted without its secrecy envelope!! #nonakedballots #dressyourballot.” The topless tweet comes after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that ballots had to be rejected if not enclosed in the proper secrecy envelope.
The decision left Democratic leaders fearing a large number of votes could be invalidated

A Florida woman says she was forced to forfeit her lotto prize after the US Postal Service lost her winning ticket in the mail. Sue Burgess, of Hernando County, said she was thrilled to discover earlier this summer that she snagged $1,000 in the state’s Second Chance Lottery game, news station WFLA.
“I was elated. It was like winning a million dollars to me,” Burgess told the outlet. But at the time, she couldn’t claim her winnings at any of the local lottery offices since they were closed due to the pandemic.
She followed the state lottery’s instructions and went to the post office

There’s a word to describe Americans who believe in a colorblind society and that all people should be treated equally regardless of their skin color: racist. That, at least, is the contention of the burgeoning anti-racism movement, which holds that people are either racist or anti-racist, and those who are not actively agitating against White supremacy and systemic racism might as well take a seat next to former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke. Oh, and if you say you’re not racist, you’re definitely racist.(Snip) “It is essentially a totalitarian requirement that you have to join their cause or you are opposing their cause.”

JPMorgan Chase will pay a record $920million to settle US civil and criminal charges over fake trades in precious metals and Treasury futures designed to manipulate the market, US agencies announced Tuesday. The settlement comes as the US banking giant reached a deferred prosecution agreement with the Justice Department to resolve criminal fraud charges over the long-running schemes. In one of the schemes, JPMorgan traders in New York, London and Singapore between 2008 and 2016 commissioned tens of thousands of orders for gold, silver, platinum and palladium futures that were placed in order to be canceled to deceive other market participants, the Department

Minnesota schools, reopening amid a pandemic and a national reckoning over systemic racism, are sharpening their focus on the state’s decadeslong problems with achievement gaps and educational disparities.
Around the state, schools are adding new staff to focus on equity in classroom instruction and hiring, and approving policies that define—and disavow—racism.(Snip) Minnesota’s educational gaps are stark; the most recent statewide test scores showed that 63% of white students met proficiency standards in math, compared with 26% of Black and American Indian students. Graduation rates have ticked up in recent years, but white students are still more likely to earn a diploma than students of color.
Comments:
There's controversy in Communities of Color because the Marxist rioters were clever enough to cloak themselves in bLACK, rendering any objection, even by those Of Color whose livelihoods were destroyed, as RACIST.
