A 29-year-old with a lengthy arrest history was released without bail on an assault and robbery case—only to mug a 93-year-old man in Lower Manhattan a month later, according to police and court records. Ahmad Tucker was arraigned on robbery and assault charges Wednesday after his latest scrape with the law, with police reporting that he knocked the elderly victim to the ground in Lower Manhattan and stole $30 and the man’s MetroCard.(Snip) Court records show it took three cops to take Tucker into custody on Jan. 29—with one officer getting slugged—at the corner of Church

The head of the Homeland Security Department’s intelligence unit told Congress on Friday that there was an attempt to push staffers in the division to characterize certain people as “Antifa,” and he said that is now being reviewed by an inspector general. Joseph Maher said he became aware of an email by his predecessor, Brian Murphy, that carried that directive.
“The email instructed intelligence professionals to characterize activities of certain individuals in a certain way,” he said. He also said federal police took phones from people they arrested during Portland’s riots, confirming reports. But he said intelligence analysts did not “exploit” those phones

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced new pandemic rules Thursday while donning a “Rona Destroyer” costume. The Democrat handed out candy in a red cape reading “Rona Destroyer,” a mask, rubber gloves, and giant Clorox chest covering before taking the microphone to discuss “Halloweek” activities. “I’d like to begin by acknowledging my partner in crime, Dr. Allison Arwady, the Commissioner of Public Health,” Ms. Lightfoot said. “We all know that [sic] this holiday means for our kids and adults—especially now—after so much has been taken away over this past year.(Snip) Ms. Lightfoot stressed the trick-or-treating is only allowed in groups “of six

Donald Trump said Thursday he will overturn the 'ridiculous order' of removing the words 'brotherhood' and 'man' from the US Navy SEAL ethos. In a tweet responding to the news, the president wrote: 'I will be overturning this ridiculous order immediately!' The Navy has removed gendered words from its official SEAL ethos, changing them to 'citizen' and 'warrior'. Alterations have also been made in the Special Warfare Combatant Crewmen (SWCC) creed, American Military News reports. One change in the first paragraph of the SEAL ethos now reads: 'I am that warrior.' It had read: 'I am that man.' Another states: 'Common citizens with uncommon

The administration has set a cap of admitting no more than 15,000 refugees in fiscal year 2021, marking the lowest number on record and completing President Trump’s goal of restructuring the modern refugee system. The number marks the fourth straight year of cuts—last year’s cap was 18,000—and underscores the deep political divide between Mr. Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden, who has said he would set the cap at 125,000 refugees. State Department officials informed Congress of Mr. Trump’s number just before a midnight Thursday deadline, when the fiscal year began. And they set the number without the consultation the law

A federal judge Thursday halted a Justice Department commission studying issues plaguing the law enforcement community from releasing its report because the panel excluded civil rights leaders. U.S. District Judge John Bates ruled the much-ballyhooed Presidential Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice violated the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which requires government committees to receive input from “fairly balanced” viewpoints. Judge Bates, a George W. Bush appointee, wrote in his 45-page opinion that the commission was full of law enforcement officials, but none of the members have “a criminal defense, civil rights, or community organization background.”

The US Navy SEALs have changed their creed statement to become gender-neutral and have eliminated terms such as “brotherhood,” according to a report. “Naval Special Warfare continues to deliberately develop a culture of tactical and ethical excellence that reflects the nation we represent, and that draws upon the talents of the all-volunteer force who meet the standards of qualification as a SEAL or SWCC,” Navy Special Warfare spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Stroup told American Military News.(Snip) Instead of “A common man with uncommon desire to succeed,” it now says: “Common citizens with uncommon desire to succeed.” Another alters “I am that man”

Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden flatly denied at Tuesday night’s debate that his lawyer son took huge sums of money from corrupt oligarchs and Chinese communists during his vice presidency, but Treasury Department reports show that Hunter Biden did receive the money. President Trump chose to make an issue of Hunter Biden’s cash haul from Russia, Ukraine and China with the implication that unsavory figures were trying to buy Vice President Biden and the Obama administration.(Snip) Hunter Biden received a single wire transfer of $3.5 million from Elena Baturina. Korboi Balla was honored when Donald Trump’s staff invited him to join the president for a rally at the MSP Airport this summer to speak about how rioters burned down his Minneapolis sports bar. A group of Pennsylvania lawmakers posed topless to help remind voters to avoid submitting so-called naked mail-in ballots. “Desperate times call for desperate measures!” Allegheny County Councilwoman Bethany Hallam tweeted on Saturday. “So your favorite elected officials got naked so that you remember to make sure that your mail-in ballot is NOT submitted without its secrecy envelope!! #nonakedballots #dressyourballot.” The topless tweet comes after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that ballots had to be rejected if not enclosed in the proper secrecy envelope.
The decision left Democratic leaders fearing a large number of votes could be invalidated

No article I saw, and I checked at least a half-dozen, had much to say about the deceased, which might provide a clue as to the shooters. Anyone hazard to guess? A pastor wondered whether black lives really matter; perhaps a clue.
