A woman who fell by a collapsed "wet floor" sign at Jack Casino was awarded $3 million this past week by a Hamilton County jury. Lynda Sadowski walked toward the sign, which lay flat on the floor, in September 2016. Customers had knocked it over, and a Jack employee walked around it but failed to pick it up moments before Sadowski tripped over it, according to her attorney Matt Nakajima. Sadowski suffered a broken knee cap and metal hardware was placed in her knee. Her mobility has since worsened and she has arthritis at the fracture site, Nakajima said by email. A second surgery may be necessary.

Those who live along the 5300 block of Howland Street in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia are fed up with their new neighbors. They say rats have overtaken their front lawns, crawling, hopping and darting out at all times of day. Brenda Robinson sees them scatter across the street, "Daylight, night. Anytime, anytime." It's enough to force Eric Gerena to rethink his garbage routine. "They sit in the trash can three and four at a time. I told everybody not to bring any food out; we just bring it out Thursday morning," said Gerena. He's also bought his own rat poison and deposited around the house.

California finds itself in a dilemma over what to do about the abundance of rat poison found in the vast majority of wildlife predators, as the rat population continues to grow in cities across the state. For years, wildlife biologists have been documenting cases of rat poison compounds being found in the internal organs of deceased predators such as raccoons, birds of prey, and mountain lions. Public awareness led to the 2014 passage of a state law that banned consumer use of “second generation anticoagulant rodenticide”, or SGAR, which are more toxic than previous versions.

A Phoenix father is facing second degree murder charges for allegedly killing a man who allegedly harassed his young daughter. Police say Melvin Harris, 40, admitted to beating Leon Armstrong, 26, to death after he attempted to break into the teenage girl's stall at a QuikTrip convenience store bathroom. Harris was waiting for his daughter and her two friends in the store’s parking lot when Armstrong approached his car asking for money. Harris gave him change, then Armstrong walked into the convenience store, police said. Soon after, Harris' daughter and her friends came out of the store and said the man had harassed them, according to a police report.

River Ridge's Eastbank All Stars capped off its historic run in the Little League World Series with a dominant win over Curacao to claim the 2019 championship on Sunday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
