When Michael Flynn heads to court for his final sentencing hearing today, a lifetime of respected national service will hang in the balance on what is said and done. I am not talking about Flynn but of Judge Emmet Sullivan. There is no issue over the dismissal of the charge of Flynn lying to federal investigators. The only issue is whether, just before an election, Sullivan will use the hearing as a forum for injudicious commentary.
I have practiced law for years before Sullivan and praised him for his demeanor and record as a judge. He has served with distinction since 1994 in cases ranging from Guantanamo Bay

Enough is enough. Jonathon Turley is correct. The entire case is now out of control. If this circus does not stop soon, then President Trump needs to step in and pardon Flynn. Then the Senate needs to impeach Sullivan.

FTA: " I respect Sullivan and hope he brings an end to this cathartic record which has lasted two years."
With that statement Turley puts his credibility in serious jeopardy! How can anyone who is so blatantly biased as Sullivan be respected at all, except by other criminal jurists?

If Judge Sullivan had any credibility he would be highly upset with the corruption at the Obama JD. Something weird is going on with Sullivan... who is he protecting???

after Sullivan's appalling kowtowing to Gleeson yesterday, we need to hear Turley's post-mortem.

#1 for the record: The Senate can't Impeach anyone....only the House. The Senate is where the trial takes place.

i see that Turley posted this after hearing: Judge Sullivan stated that he is still not prepared to dismiss the case. His prolonging of the inevitable is fulfilling the expectations of the panel, which wanted to take this case from his consideration. This should have been dismissed five months ago.

Was Sullivan a guest on Epsteins Loleta flights? Surely, someone has something on him.

No, #1, a pardon is the worst possible thing. Note that Flynn has specifically asked the President NOT to pardon him.
The process is rigged, crooked and the judge is a fraud, but this is the ONLY way that Flynn gets exhonerated, no matter how difficult or long. A pardon locks in Flynn as "guilty but got away with it via a pardon" and is a very bad idea.

An excellent Article! The George Washington University Law School and his students are fortunate indeed. Jonathan Turley is an incisive thinker, fair minded world-class writer, and his knowledge of the law is more than impressive. Although his reputation is that he's generally liberal, he is often a strong advocate for conservative points of view. He seems to be likeable and trustworthy.

Sadly, this was about yesterday’s hearing which was almost as much of a shambles as the debate. Sullivan’s amicus, former judge Gleeson, jumped in and begin prosecuting Flynn all over again. The DoJ lawyers did an admirable job. Gleeson was so awful that when his mic began to garble his speech, one commenter on a Live website said “He swallowed his suppository”… Gleeson is a hateful person and Sullivan is relying on him to carry the ball against Flynn.
Sullivan is a disgrace to the legal profession, let alone the judiciary. He should be retired from the bench.

hit submit too soon
As Turley reminds us (see his tweets, linked), all Sullivan was supposed to do was sentence Flynn. He was not supposed to keep it going, utilize Gleeson, etc. That was what the 3 justice panel (two of them) feared. When Sullivan went to the court en banc, they remanded the case to him, but only for sentencing or dismissal.

Why is Judge Sullivan destroying his career over this?

#2, Turley's kind words about Sullivan reminded me of an exchange I had with one of my lawyers years ago. I told him I wanted to ask for legal fees in a suit. He paused a minute and then said "We lawyers don't like to do that to each other." I found another lawyer.
