Verizon has been quietly scrambling to unload HuffPost as it grapples with continued losses at the left-leaning news and culture website, The Post has learned.
The telecom giant — which acquired the site formerly known as the Huffington Post as part of its $4.4 billion purchase of AOL in 2015 — has approached multiple digital-media companies during the past few months in a bid to get the property off its books as losses accelerate due to the coronavirus, according to sources close to the situation.
Verizon has pitched the property to prospective buyers including Thrillist-owner Group Nine Media, Rolling Stone publisher Penske Media Corp., Bustle Digital Media and J2 Global

Advertise it as manure for flower bids and it will sell better.

Unionized writers and editors, arguing about "how left they should be". LOL!
Never been to Huffington Post, but have heard of it. Stayed away because what I heard was a relentlessly leftist line of propaganda. No thanks, plenty of that manure delivered elsewhere, and I try to avoid the other sources of leftist propaganda, too.

FTA: as losses accelerate due to the coronavirus
That may be the talking point - but it sure as heck, is not the reason for the losses.

HuffPo's product has always been suspect. Now as people cancel newspaper subscriptions and avoid network news--even Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace--mainstream media's profitability drops to zero, and willing buyers who aren't in it for vanity [Bezos] aren't interested in purchasing a money sieve. Recently I did my part by canceling my subscription to the hopelessly leftist Tampa Bay Times, and I urge all others who take Democrat dailies to exit. Long term survival of a free America means putting these foolish people out of business. They can't see beyond today.

Large, cash rich companies can make remarkably stupid decisions in acquiring other companies.
someone bought Blockbuster video for 3 billion dollars, and wound up losing 3 billion dollars, not long thereafter.
snapple was purchased by a large beverage company, which took a total loss on it, and essentially gave it back to the original owners, gratis.
even the investment geniuses on Shark Tank take relatively big losses, misjudging the potential for a new product or service.

I don't think ANY of the leftward news outlets whether digital or print are showing any profit. Were it not for Carlos Slim bailing out the NY Times, their stock price might have fallen to nothing a few years back. Finally we see some proof of this and ownership trying to cash out of a losing position.

I'm ambivalent about this. While I abhor HuffPo's putrid reporting and would consider it just for nobody to buy them, I'm also a Verizon customer, and I would prefer to be entirely dissociated from HuffPo.

I used to go there to argue when I was in the mood but concluded that arguing with the wall made more sense and had more impact. I'm happy to seem them not doing well.

I have despised Huffpo and Daily Beast for a long time. The world would be a better place without both of those "online" hateful places. Just think Joy Behar. Both sites have her personality.

HuffPost is digital. Looks like they could survive somehow even as a radical leftist site. Maybe some pinko moron with more money than brains will rescue them.

I heard by way of radio surfing today that Verizon is a Chinese company now, wholly owned by them. They do a land office business in my area. I use the other communications thug, AT&T. I'm like one of those people who never switch brands from childhood; but all of them are corrupt, so better the devil you know, etc.
