Courting a potential presidential veto, the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee voted on Wednesday to require the Pentagon to change the names of any military base named after a Confederate general.Lawmakers approved the amendment, introduced by failed 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Sen. The social media company published an archive of 32,242 accounts related to state-linked information operations including three attributed to China, Russia and Turkey, adding that data from the accounts was shared with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and Stanford Internet Observatory. Seattle police say they have received reports of armed guards and potential extortion in a self-declared autonomous zone that spans several blocks and includes a now-closed precinct. “We’ve heard, anecdotally, reports of citizens and businesses being asked to pay a fee to operate within this area. John Gleeson is the former judge tasked by Emmet Sullivan, the judge in the Michael Flynn case, with talking him into sentencing Flynn in a case that the prosecution has moved to dismiss. One wonders whether any such “talking” is required, other than for the sake of appearances. In any event, Gleeson today filed his brief. He argues that Judge Sullivan should reject the government’s motion and continue the prosecution to sentencing, notwithstanding the prosecutor’s desire to stand down. Police and sheriff's deputies in Central California are searching for a man they say shot a deputy in the head early Wednesday and killed another man in what investigators described as an "ambush" attack on a police station. The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office said Mason James Lira, 26, opened fire at the Paso Robles Police Department before 4 a.m. Wednesday, shooting a responding deputy in the head. The deputy's partner dragged him to safety and returned fire, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson said. The bullet remained lodged in the deputy's head and he's in serious condition at the hospital, Parkinson said.

The US economy will shrink by 6.5% this year, the Federal Reserve has forecast, announcing it would keep interest rates close to zero into 2022. The US central bank’s moves come as the economy struggles with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. However, the Fed expects the US economy will return to growth in 2021, with unemployment falling to 9.3% and GDP increasing 5%, followed by 3.5% growth in 2022. “The ongoing public health crisis will weigh heavily on economic activity, employment, and inflation in the near term, and poses considerable risks to the economic outlook over the medium term,” it said in a statement.
