WASHINGTON— House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that it’s time to remove symbols honoring Confederate figures from the U.S. Capitol building and military bases as the pandemic and racial unrest force a national reckoning with racial discrimination.“These names have to go from these bases and these statues have to go from the Capitol,“ Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “The American people know these names have to go.”Confederate monuments have reemerged as a national flashpoint since the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white Minneapolis officer pressed his knee into his neck for several minutes. Protesters decrying racism have targeted Confederate monuments in

Guilty conscience for democrats fighting to keep slavery and embracing the Confederate Army and Flag and waging the civil war. New Estimate Raises Civil War Death Toll. For 110 years, the numbers stood as gospel: 618,222 men died in the Civil War, 360,222 from the North and 258,000 from the South — by far the greatest toll of any war in American history. Are you proud of yourself Nancy? Over 100,000 more men died fighting the war in the Union Army than in the Confederate Army. That make you happy Nancy?

While they're getting rid of all of these honors to Democrats past, they should take the name Robert Byrd off of everything its on too.

Must hide the truth (Confederate states embraced and supported slavery) from our poorly educated children. Just as fast as possible.

So has anyone researched who put all of these statues up in the first place? Be curious to see if taxpayers paid for all of them?

Nancy Pelosi, you've been in Congress since 1987. That's over 30 years. Strange you didn't mentioned this before when Clinton and Obama were president.

Do I recall correctly that George Washington had slaves? So we should now rename our nations capital, change our image on the dollar bill, change the name of Washington and Lee University to Kennedy and Obama University, change the name of the White House to the Neutral Color House. Anyone have others??? This is just like the old Soviet Union where a purged party member's image would disappear from a historical photograph.

Think of the expense of changing the name of Ft. Hood? All the stationary changes alone for payroll, etc. would be huge.

Weren't all of these symbols Nancy cares to extinguish actually Democrats? Are the Democrats trying to eliminate their horrific history by these actions? Sounds like the communist left.

Rationalizing the erasure of history for the purpose of being able to rewrite it is just as bad as what the Taliban in their zeal to eradicate any non-Islamic statue or monument. Pound sand, Pelosi.

How quickly our history is forgotten. After a particularly intense battle with Union and Confederate dead piled high, Union troops were detailed to bury the dead. An officer asked the Union general, I think it was John Logan, if the dead should be separated into Union and Confederate graves. The general indignantly replied, "No. Mix them up. They are all Americans." Those military installations named for former Confederates (who also had distinguished military careers before the war) were so named as a gesture of reconciliation during the First World War. Reconciliation had begun during the War with Spain when Fitzhugh Lee, a Confederate cavalry general, was appointed to command the American cavalry going to Cuba.
