On Wednesday, NASCAR announced that the Confederate flag would no longer be allowed at events. This news came days after the professional racing organization’s only African American driver Darrell “Bubba” Wallace said NASCAR had “reached out” and had been “stepping up to the plate and delivering in a huge way.”
NASCAR said in a statement, “The presence of the Confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors, and our industry.”

I have no problem with this business decision. The Confederate flag should not be a symbol of Southern Pride any more than the swastika should be a symbol of Germanic heritage. It represents the Confederacy against which thousands of Americans died to preserve the Union and to defeat those states which thought it was morally acceptable to enslave another human being.

It's not a business decision, #3, not even close. It will, however, become a going-out-of-business decision.

This is pandering/virtue signaling to a constituency that does NOT constitute NASCAR's fan base, what little there is remaining of it. The oft repeated, "get woke, go broke" would seem to apply here.

Pretty "culturally insensitive" there #3. I was mostly raised in the south, Florida and Virgiina, and I do understand that the Confederate Battle Flag has historic meaning for people raised there. And while there is no doubt that sometimes it is used by racists as a symbol, too, mostly it is just a historic reminder of times when states were more free, and people had mostly an allegiance first to their state, and only second to the whole country. Personally, I wouldn't fly the flag, but I am not offended by those who do.
And I judge their intent by other things. Thugs flying it, are just thugs. Good people flying it are just good people. The flag doesn't define either of them.

#3 The Civil War was about State's Rights not about slavery:
Letter from Lincoln to Horace Greeley, Editor, " I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be "the Union as it was." If there be those who would not save the Union, unless they could at the same time save slavery, I do not agree with them. If there be those who would not save the Union unless they could at the same time destroy slavery, I do not agree with them. My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views."

Forgetting or ignoring the situations that, eventually, led to what we now call NASCAR. Moonshine running, anyone?
And, not incidentally, it isn't least arguable that those states seeking to secede were fully in keeping with the original beliefs and intents behind the creation of the United StateS. Plural. And that Lincoln, et al, were at least as much traitors as Bragg, Davis, and the like were to the culture. It was Lincoln, etc., who along with despicable "educators" like Dewey who altered the mindset from "the United States ARE", to "the United States IS". I think it was better before: it kept the feral Federal goobermint in check. Hasn't been the case since.
And, now, joining the NFL, NBA, etc., NASCAR is dead to me.

I don't get it. I'm a northerner but I am concerned about denying Americans born in the southern states from preserving their history and culture. It's history, their history. How can we learn anything from the past if we try and destroy history? NASCAR is now part of the growing group of history revisionists. I was a big fan. No more.

What confounds me is that the civil war was over 155 years ago. There was never this furor over Confederate monuments until Trump was elected. Trump is a New Yorker, not a son of the South. He has never, ever, as far as I know championed any institution or person who has anything to do with racism.
As far as the monuments go there was no uproar when they were erected, the North let the South honor their dead. Lincoln wanted to heal the Country after the war, and now these a@@hat leftists are opening up a gaping wound because they hate, Trump, America, and everything they stand for.

I thought NASCAR banned the Confederate battle flag (its true name) years ago. What infuriates me is the "Black Lives Matter" car. My DH has been a NASCAR fan since before we met. When I told him about the BLM car, he said, "I've watched my last NASCAR race."

#3 needs to actually read a little history. The causes of the war were quite complex. The North invaded the South and started a bloody, illegal war for money. As Lincoln said when told the South was likely to secede said, "What will become of my tariffs"? Tariffs were the main source of the country's income. In addition to losing its income, the period was the end of the "Little Ice Age'. Wooden ships of the day were hampered because of the ice in the northern ports. The North would lose the South's warm water ports...Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans, Mobile, etc. No more import/export for the North in the winter. Lincoln had the Northern businessmen screaming bloody murder at him to invade. It wasn't until 1963 that the North started to use abolition as a "noble cause" for going to war. His Emancipation Proclamation applied only to the seceding states, not the northern slave states like Delaware, and was done in the hopes of creating a slave rebellion in the South. As Genral Cleburn said, ""I am with the South in life or in death, in victory or in defeat . . . I believe the North is about to wage a brutal and unholy war on a people who have done them no wrong, in violation of the Constitution and the fundamental principles of government. They no longer acknowledge that all government derives its validity from the consent of the governed. They are about to invade our peaceful homes, destroy our property, and inaugurate a servile insurrection, murder our men and dishonor our women. We propose no invasion of the North, no attack on them, and only ask to be left alone."
- Major General Patrick Cleburne C.S.A.

Well, it won't be long before they won't need the green flag to start the race, or the checkered flag to declare the race winner. NASCAR will be gone.

#3, would you please give the rest of us a list
of books that you want burned, your attitude
about southern monuments and the flag are one
and the same with book burning.
I respect your right to your opinion, I sure as hell
do not respect your opinions on this subject.

defend Liberty.

What #3 and similar opinions represent is the complete screw over of history by the public schools systems. It has been said that history is written by the victors, and that truism that has a great deal of validity. The northern carpetbaggers brought with them there "education" system, and has re-taught the south with their own ideas of "Saint Abe", and evils of Southern Independence.
Much more has, of course, been written, but suffice it to say those who have been indoctrinated with the big government ideas that came from the platforms of Abraham Lincoln and his ilk are loathe to re-examine their premise and adjust accordingly.

So, the only Black Racer wants the Confederate Flags not allowed at the NASCAR Races and everyone bends to his wishes. I have to tell ya, I've been to lots of Bristol Races and never noticed ANY Blacks attending. Now, I may have missed a few, not sure, but I doubt it. So why make a demand like that to the folks that DO come to the Races? If This Black Racer doesn't like it, too bad. The folks that drive their huge RV's to each Race bring Millions of needed dollars to the community, not to mention the Race Track. So why in the world do we want them P.O'd? They Camp out for a week at each track spending their money and I'm guessing they will give their one fingered salute to NASCAR if they're made to take down their Flags!

#19 Trying to simplify all the various motives of the reason for the war doesn't do justice to very complex historical event.
That was certainly a view of some southerners. General Patrick Cleburne may not have hand any intentions of attacking the north, but Lee did. He felt that attacking Washington would force the north to abandon the war. Lee was stopped cold at Gettysburg.
