Kevin uses one word to describe the first days of the protests in downtown Ottawa: torture.
"Literally there was trucks right underneath me," said Kevin, "It was one thing for me, but I've got animals. I've got three cats, two dogs. So yeah, it was torture." (Snip) The trucks have since been removed, with police pushing the majority of protesters outside of the downtown core over the Family Day long weekend. Even still, some downtown residents say they're haunted by "phantom honking" — what sounds like blaring truck horns, but no actual sounds are there.

How were your elementary school teachers? If any were Satanists, you were ahead of your time.
Last month, REAL News Michigan reported that a Fort Wayne, Indiana public school instructor owned a local Satanic temple.
Per the outlet:
According to Indiana Secretary of State records, Jessica Klikas is the owner of The Satanic Temple Indiana, also known as Porta Infernum (Latin for Gate of Hell) LLC. Klikas is currently a fourth grade teacher at Haverhill Elementary School, according to a staff directory for the Southwest Allen County Schools’ district website.

A fantastic piece by Peter Beinart on substack puts excellent clarity on the people around Joe Biden baiting Russian President Vladimir Putin to enter Ukraine. Current CIA Director William “Bill” Burns was the former ambassador to Russia and Jordan. Bill Burns had a 33-year career at the State Department under both Republican and Democratic presidents and speaks fluent Russian. If the people in the background of Joe Biden wanted an intelligence operative to trigger a specific result from Russia, there’s no one more strategically perfect for the job than CIA Director Bill Burns.

Nearly every Senate Democrat voted in favor of legislation Monday which would have radically expanded abortion rights beyond even the Supreme Court’s ruling in Roe v. Wade.
The Women’s Health Protection Act would have forced every state to allow abortions for any reason until at least the point of viability, generally defined at around six months into a pregnancy, and banned most restrictions on abortion up to the point of birth.
Every Republican voted against the bill, and every Democrat except Sen. Joe Manchin voted in favor, NBC News reported.

On the eve of President Biden’s first State of the Union address, Monday, the broadcast networks previewed his big speech and each took a different approach, with ABC lamenting that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “forced” Biden to change his speech and CBS touting a fence around the Capitol. NBC was the outlier that showed Biden’s new terrible poll numbers from… ABC!
“And Mary, the President and his team forced to rework parts of this speech in light of this Russian invasion,” ABC’s World News Tonight anchor David Muir huffed as he directed his question to senior White House correspondent Mary Bruce. “I'm curious what your sources are telling you tonight

As Russia struggles to conquer Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has moved his strategic nuclear forces to a heightened alert posture.
Satellite imagery also indicates that the Russian Northern Fleet has moved more ballistic missile submarines into Arctic and Barents sea patrol sectors. While U.S. nuclear forces remain at standard readiness levels, the U.S. military has a greater baseline readiness and redundant nuclear strike capability than does Russia.
I suspect the ultimate intent of Putin's public nuclear threat is to dangle the risk of escalation so as to deter Western unity on further sanctions.

Nearly all Senate Democrats voted in favor of a bill that would allow doctors nationwide to terminate fetuses nine months into a pregnancy.
The Senate on Monday failed to advance the most pro-abortion bill in history, the Women's Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe v. Wade to repeal all abortion restrictions across the nation. The bill states that doctors could abort babies at any point in a pregnancy if they determine a continuation "would pose a risk to the pregnant patient's life or health." The bill was never expected to pass the 60-vote threshold to advance to a vote, but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) faced pressure from pro-abortion activists and more liberal members

Since Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Western Europe has solidified around the idea that allowing Putin to get away with this outrage is only a prelude to more outrageous conduct in the future. The result has been some of the most serious sanctions imposed on any national bad-actor in recent memory.
What is more stunning is that Europe has led the way, while Joe Biden was slurping down applesauce in Delaware. What surprised me was how Western Europe, particularly Germany, stepped up with promises of lethal military aid to Ukraine. Several nations announced they were drawing down the war stocks of their own militaries

Most State of the Union speeches are forgettable events, where presidents simply lay out their laundry list of desired policies within a highly unedifying cliche-to-substance ratio. But once in a while a State of the Union speech actually matters, and such is the case with President Biden’s address tomorrow night.
First, most SotU speeches run an hour or more. Can Biden actually make it that long?
But much more important is the substance of the speech. Most SotU addresses start taking shape in the fall, around Thanksgiving. I have previously speculated that the late date of Biden’s first SotU (they are usually in late January or early February, when the president submits

Americans overwhelmingly favor increased economic sanctions against Russia and broadly support further action to stop Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but most oppose direct US military action, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.
Eighty-three percent of Americans said they favored increased economic sanctions against Russia in response to the invasion, with just 17% opposed. New sanctions and economic restrictions aimed at Russia were announced by the US and other countries while the poll was in the field on Friday and Saturday. Support for increased sanctions in the new poll stands well above the 67% who favored the same in 2014 amid Russia's incursion

The Ukraine War scenes of Russian soldiers crying in shame and main battle tanks abandoned due to lack of fuel tell the story of a war gone seriously wrong for Russian strongman Vladimir Putin. Scenes like these aren’t uncommon: “Amateurs study strategy,” the old saw goes. “Professionals study logistics.”
The “reformed” Russian Army can’t get its Ukraine War logistics straight, can’t keep their vehicles fueled. What a bunch of amateurs.
This next clip is heart-wrenching. It’s a captured Russian soldier crying after being told by locals that he isn’t welcome in Ukraine.

Ukraine is a highly devout country – about 87% of its 41 million citizens practice Christianity. So it's notable that, to many Ukrainians, Mary Magdalene now has a new moniker: St. Javelin. The viral meme (shown above) recasting the "Apostle of the apostles" is in reverence to a device that knows no religion: the FGM-148 Javelin portable fire-and-forget anti-tank missile. Since the start of Putin's dastardly invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian freedom fighters have extensively utilized the American-made weapon system – co-produced by Lockheed Martin and Raytheon – to rain destruction down upon the Russian military's armored vehicles. Ukraine's Defense Ministry estimates that 102 tanks and 536 armored vehicles had been destroyed

We’ve written often at this site about Chuck Todd and about his colleague Andrea Mitchell a time or two as well, and it never fails to amaze me how both of them continue to believe that as long as they keep saying journalists aren’t liberally biased people will believe them.In this writer’s view, the receipts are pretty substantial if not overwhelming that journalists do indeed harbor a left-wing bias. For starters, pretty much every poll that has been taken over the last decade on media contributions to politicians shows that the vast majority of journalists contribute either to Democrats or Democrat causes. The government of Turkey changed its view of Russia’s attack on Ukraine over the weekend, declaring the assault is “officially a war,” which activated certain clauses in a treaty that allows Turkey to restrict access to the Black Sea through the Dardanelles and Bosporus Straits.
On Monday afternoon, Turkey announced it will forbid the passage of all warships through the straits. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday to close the straits to Russian warships. An excited Zelensky immediately announced Erdogan agreed to the request: Turkish officials had previously disagreed, saying Erdogan had not yet made any decision “to close the straits to Russian ships yet.”

A longtime associate of President Joe Biden’s son was sentenced on Feb. 28 to one year and one day in jail for defrauding a Native American tribe.
Devon Archer was convicted for participating in a scheme to bilk the Wakpamni Lake Community Corporation of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of tens of millions of dollars. The tribe didn’t answer a phone attempt for comment on Monday.
Archer was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams, an Obama nominee who split the ground between prosecutorial and defense sentencing recommendations.

At least eleven civilians have died and dozens of others were wounded as the Russians targeted the city on Monday morning, per Ukrainian officials. Over the last 30 years, many Ukrainians have asked when their nation will finally get its George Washington, a leader who can rally the people and lead it to victory.
I’ve usually told Ukrainian interlocutors that Washington wasn’t born a great man; he became one because of the trials of the Revolutionary War, when he demonstrated his ability to lead and to symbolize the American struggle. A Ukrainian Washington might emerge in a similar manner, and now perhaps he has.
Ukrainians’ question may have been answered by an unlikely candidate for the hero role: Volodymyr Zelensky, a comedian-turned-president, who many analysts — including me — considered would be disastrous for the country.

The Kremlin has sent more than 400 Russian-paid mercenaries into Kyiv with the mission to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to a report. The Wagner Group, a Russian private military company accused of covertly working with the Russian government, flew in mercenaries from Africa to Kyiv about five weeks ago, The Times of London reported. Their assignment was to decapitate Zelenskyy’s government and prepare the ground for Moscow to take control in exchange for handsome financial bonuses, according to the newspaper.

One of the questions asked over and over about Putin’s callous invasion of an inoffensive neighbor, an invasion that is mysteriously rationalized by an amazing number of people on the right who were apoplectic over Trudeau’s brutality with the Freedom Convoy, is what was his objective. It’s obvious that he was torqued about Ukraine flirting with EU and NATO membership, but if he wanted regime change, a few million dollars, an AstroTurfed mob, and a GRU or Spetsznaz hit squad could have accomplished that (look at how easily Putin installed his previous stooge, Yanukovych) with much less melodrama and loss of life.

People say the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a messaging problem. But the CDC’s problem is not messaging—it’s issuing flawed guidance while covering up the data. Case in point: pushing boosters for young people. After the Food and Drug Administration inexplicably bypassed its expert advisory committee to authorize boosters for all young people, the CDC director overruled her own experts’ down vote of the boosters-for-all proposal.(Snip)What have they been hiding? As a proxy, let’s take a look at what the CDC just published on people 50 to 65: For the fully vaccinated, the booster reduces the risk of COVID death from 4 per million

The Ukrainian border guards initially presumed to have been killed in action on Snake Island, a small, Black Sea outpost off the Ukrainian coast are now believed to have been captured by Russian forces.
An exchange between the Ukrainians stationed there and an encroaching Russian warship in the early hours of the war had provided Russia with a geographic victory and Ukraine with a morale boost.
“I am a Russian warship, I ask you to lay down your arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed and unnecessary deaths. Otherwise, you will be bombed,” said the Russians over the radio.

On Sunday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced a tentative end date to the city’s vaccine and school mask mandates. "More than a million New York City school children will return to class tomorrow. If our numbers continue to show a low level of risk, we will remove the indoor mask mandate for public school students, effective Monday, March 7," wrote Adams.

Russian troops are closing in on the Ukraine capital Kyiv as civilians are handed weapons and encouraged to make Molotov cocktails.
Ukraine has temporarily restricted men aged 18 to 60 from leaving the country “in order to ensure the defense of the state, maintaining combat and mobilization readiness of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations”.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged people to come forward saying: “We will give weapons to anyone who wants to defend the country. Be ready to support Ukraine in the squares of our cities.”

Washington (CNN)The US Capitol's attending physician said Sunday that masks will be optional on Capitol Hill starting Monday, just a day before President Joe Biden will deliver his State of the Union address in the House chamber.
Citing new guidance from US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Brian P. Monahan said in a memo that "individuals may choose to mask at any time, but it is no longer a requirement."

It is a story of one man’s heroic struggle against the elements and often viewed as a metaphor for life itself. It's the easiest thing in the world: cut off Russia's oil earnings and watch its war against Ukraine collapse.
A U.S. oil embargo on Russia would destroy its cash stream which is financing 30% of its government, including its attack on Ukraine.
In a war, at least one you want to win, you cut off supply lines. Grant and Sherman understood this. But General Biden is a little different. He wants to keep Putin getting that money until Bad America reforms to a green energy system to his liking. He has a live war in front of him; he has the solution on the table;

One of the oddest commentaries about the Russian invasion of Ukraine is the boilerplate reaction that “borders can’t change in modern Europe” or “this does not happen in the 21st century.”
But why in the world should the 21st century be exempt from the pathologies of the past 20 centuries? Are we smarter than the Romans? More innovative than Florentines? Do we have more savvy leaders than Lincoln or Churchill? Are they more mellifluous than Demosthenes? Does anyone now remember that some 130,000 were slaughtered just 30 years ago in the former Yugoslavia, as NATO planes bombed Belgrade and nuclear America and Russia almost squared off?

“When statesmen forsake their own private conscience for the sake of their public duties, they lead their country by a short route to chaos.” —Robert Bolt, “A Man for All Seasons." Sir Thomas More’s pronouncement above correctly states the danger to a nation when our leaders don’t follow their conscience, but it is silent on the danger when men of conscience such as More are themselves silenced. A statesman died last week who did not sacrifice his conscience, and paid a price for it.

It's been almost two years since the summer of violent Black Lives Matter insurrections and cop-hating crusades. The actions of that summer inflicted $2 billion in property damage in 220 American cities, killed scores of people, and spiked record homicide rates in a dozen municipalities run by Democrat politicians and supporters. This unprecedented eruption of hatred and violence was fueled by a racial hoax claiming that there was an "open season" on black lives, despite the fact that there is no evidence to support this claim, whether statistical or circumstantial.

I’m having a problem using the president’s formal title and name together. It’s not a matter of Republican disrespect for a Democrat. I referred to both Barack Obama and Bill Clinton by their presidential titles. It’s a matter of legitimacy. Over half of all Americans now believe that fraud affected the outcome of the last Presidential election. The Arizona election audit didn’t prove that the Donald won, as many hoped. But it did prove that we don’t really know who won that state. Given the election shenanigans around the country in November 2020, there is certainly justification to question the outcome.

While I have no way of knowing — or giving a damn — if ABC “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos woke up on the wrong side of the bed Sunday morning, I do know that by the time he got to the studio, he was ready to do battle with Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton over his favorite target: Donald Trump.
Unfortunately for Stephy, Cotton was more than ready to dismiss him and his stage four TDS nonsense.
As reported by NewsBusters, Stephanopoulos did his damnedest to frame Putin as an egomaniacal dictator

A Ukrainian brewery has switched craft beer for Molotov cocktails in the fight against advancing Russian troops.
The workers at the Pravda brewery in Lviv decided to produce the petrol bombs amid fears that Russian tanks will roll into the western city of 720,000 residents near the Polish border, Agence France-Presse reported.
The company began producing the incendiary weapons for the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces, which is made up of reservists who responded to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call to take up arms.
“You have to wait for the cloth to be well soaked. When it is, that means the Molotov cocktail is ready,” one smiling employee told AFP as he stuffed the cloth

Since Friday, several developments have exposed more of the behind-the-scenes details of the special counsel investigation into Spygate, including the public release of the deposition of Tech Executive-1, Rodney Joffe. Joffe’s deposition, coupled with other details previously known, reveals several significant facts while highlighting the many questions that remain unanswered.

Hollywood celebrities went completely maskless for the SAG Awards on Sunday at the same time that thousands of children across Los Angeles County are still being forced to wear masks indoors in school.
The SAG Awards allowed the stars to forego masks despite previously announcing that masks would be required. The change in policy appears to be in line with recent changes to local health guidance.
Los Angeles County began relaxing its indoor mask mandate for businesses on Friday, allowing people to go maskless in restaurants, gyms, and other establishments only if they show proof of vaccination.

Concern over a broader conflict has led Finns to buy large quantities of anti-radiation iodine tablets and to prepare a thousand beds for fleeing Ukrainians as Russia threatens consequences if the country joins NATO.
Pharmacies across Finland have claimed that stocks of iodine tablets, which are used to combat the effects of radiation and nuclear fallout, have run low and, in some cases, have sold out completely, as Finns fear the war in Ukraine could spread.
“There has been strong demand in the last couple of weeks,” pharmacist Eero Suihko told broadcaster YLE.

Joe Biden capped off another rotten week of his sinking presidency saying he hopes his legacy “is that I restored the soul of this country.” His dementia might be relatively new, but he’s been a raging narcissist throughout his public life. Who does he think he is, Barack Obama? Or maybe even the Almighty?
In an interview Saturday, Biden also said that he wanted to be remembered for returning “some decency and honor to the office” and bringing “the middle class back to a place where they had real opportunity.” We might take on those delusions another time, but for

Another MSNBC guest and so-called “journalist”/”scholar” has falsely linked Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to former President Donald Trump.Sarah Kendzior, a so-called “journalist” who even once wrote a book about Trump, claimed specifically — and without any evidence — that the former president was purposefully “installed as the president of the United States in order to weaken the alliances that were preventing Putin from achieving his goals.”“Alliances like NATO, our relationship with our European partners, our relationship with Ukraine. Trump was put in as a bulldozer,” she added. While Trump was fairly aggressive toward NATO during his four years in office, his disdain for the organization spans decades,

A U.S. official claimed that Belarus is planning to join in on Russia's invasion of Ukraine as soon as Monday, just after a referendum in Belarus on Sunday approved a new constitution ditching the country's non-nuclear status - meaning it could potentially host Russian weapons. The American official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to the Washington Post, said that 'it’s very clear [Belarus' capital] Minsk is now an extension of the Kremlin. No indication on how many troops nor where they would be deployed was given by the official. The new constitution could see nuclear weapons on Belarusian soil

President Trump, in his brilliant CPAC speech, skewered those that want to defend Ukraine’s borders while leaving our own borders undefended.Speaking on that, he said that it is “interesting that so many Democrats in Washington seem to be rushing to microphones to declare that Ukraine’s borders are sacred” and that they do so “even while they are destroying our own borders and surrendering our own sovereignty.”Well, that is now, of course, exactly what President Biden is doing right now. After letting two million illegals flood across the border last year, he’s now sending CBP agents not to the border crossings where they can keep Americans safe, but to Europe,

Recently, after meeting with congressional Democrats, the United States Capitol Police initiated “extra security” precautions for Tuesday’s State of the Union address. The USCP is coordinating with the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police, the United States Park Police, the Secret Service and the National Guard. Included in their preparations is the construction of a 7-foot fence around the Capitol building and the deployment of 50 tactical military vehicles. The purported need for all this security involves “The People’s Convoy,” a procession of truckers crossing the country to protest the ongoing use of COVID-19 as a pretext for restricting American civil liberties.

Sometimes an opinion pops into my head that I know probably isn’t going to go over very well with some of the readers here at RedState, but hey, what kind of writer would I be if I was that easily swayed? So, if you disagree with what I’m about to say, live and let die on this one, and our minds will meet back up on the next one.
And on that note, the American trucker convoy headed toward Washington, D.C., to disrupt Joe Biden’s State of the Union address is a really bad idea.
I know, I know, but hear me out. No doubt, I was a strong supporter of the Freedom Convoy in Canada.
