Two months after their lives were upended by a wildfire that took everything they owned, hundreds of Louisville residents unloaded on a City Council that they say is taking all they have left — the hope of rebuilding. “Just let us f-ing go home,” said Barba Hickman, a Marshall Fire victim who lost her home. (Snip) Louisville is the first and only city in the state to require homes be built with net zero greenhouse gas emissions and Barba Hickman says there are a lot of unknowns, “They keep promising us all these funds. If they can find funds I’ll

Sadly, Louisville residents, the chickens have come home to roost. The solution? Have the city council approve a measure that grandfathers the re-construction of these homes under the old building codes.

“ Louisville is the first and only city in the state to require homes be built with net zero greenhouse gas emissions …….”
The entire US only accounts for 15% of the world’s green house gas emissions, so what benefit is there of this local requirement for a handful of homes? Just more evidence that elections have consequences, whether national, state or for city council. And more proof that the Democrats who pass these delusional yet incredibly expensive regulations lack both intelligence and hearts.

Government is supposed to help the citizens. Our current government is not doing this.

Its call the Louisville Debuild back better plan. Its the best way to reduce green house emission. Just make it too expensive to build anything. Soon a housing shortage will drive up the prices cause even more people to leave. And in a decade or so, Louisville will look like a smaller version of Detroit. Totally abandoned. And zero green house emission. Gotta love liberal solutions to nonexistent problems.

Well, if these council members are really sincere in their beliefs and only want homes with net zero greenhouse gas emissions to be built, they need to tear down their homes and rebuild using the same exact zoning codes they want these people to use. New rules, don't impose restrictions on other people you won't impose on yourselves.

There is a log cabin on some acreage our family has in southern Illinois. The cabin has been there for well over 150 years, and probably just sitting there for the last 100 years. It will still be there long after these "Green Building Codes" and the structures built under them are long gone. Define sustainable in this case. I will wait.

Unincorporated Boulder County is just as bad.
#5 it won't look like Detroit. These regulations will drive out the middle class and make rebuilding more expensive. Out-of-state people will come in flush with cash and buy up properties. Detroit? No. It will be more like Palo Alto.

Some of the lots of burned out residents have been listed for sale in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The destroyed structures are not even cleared off yet.

Strict 'green' building codes are difficult to adhere to, and will add up to $100K to the price of rebuilding each home.
