Russia Warns Nations of 'Consequences'
for Sending Weapons to Ukraine and Wonders
if Germany Was Ever "De-Nazified"

Since Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Western Europe has solidified around the idea that allowing Putin to get away with this outrage is only a prelude to more outrageous conduct in the future. The result has been some of the most serious sanctions imposed on any national bad-actor in recent memory. What is more stunning is that Europe has led the way, while Joe Biden was slurping down applesauce in Delaware. What surprised me was how Western Europe, particularly Germany, stepped up with promises of lethal military aid to Ukraine. Several nations announced they were drawing down the war stocks of their own militaries

Took the words right out of my keyboard #2. Isn't it simply amazing how the permanent global labels for evil remain Nazi and Hitler. Stalin's warm up act before even hitting stride was 6 million.

The Russians beat the German army to a pulp back in WW2, actually their winter weather did. Revenge can never come too late.

Europe led the way? To where? HaHaHaHaHa! Did the Ukrainians get the blankets and helmets promised them? Have thoses German weapons systems arrived? (Leftover panzerfausts, perhaps.) Did anyone rush to mobilize? (Could any NATO "ally" even field a credible force?) The Croatians are going home if any shooting starts. Yeah, that's leading the way.

‘Putin was wrong. We were ready’:
Biden will condemn Russian leader in address

In his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden plans to call out his Russian counterpart’s miscalculations in waging war on Ukraine. Biden will say on Tuesday night that President Vladimir Putin’s attack was “premeditated and unprovoked,” after the Russian leader rejected the West’s multiple attempts to find a diplomatic solution. “He thought the West and NATO wouldn’t respond. And, he thought he could divide us here at home,” the president will say before the joint session of Congress, according to excerpts of Biden’s address released by the White House. “Putin was wrong. We were ready.”
Russian move on Kyiv stalled with some

Washington - Russia's military move on Kyiv has stalled as its forces struggle with basic logistics challenges, including shortages of food and fuel, with some units appearing to be gripped by low morale, a senior U.S. defense official said on Tuesday. Russia warned residents in capital Kyiv to flee their homes on Tuesday and rained rockets down on the second city of Kharkiv, as Russian commanders who have failed to achieve a quick victory shifted their tactics to intensify the bombardment of Ukrainian cities. Satellite images taken on Monday show a Russian military convoy north of Kyiv that stretches for about 40 miles (64 km), substantially longer than the 17 miles

A couple of years after former President Trump made significant gains in often Hispanic-majority Democrat counties along the United States-Mexico border in Texas, a wave of Democrats in one particular community are switching parties to join the GOP. In Terrell County, Texas, the New York Times reports that multiple elected officials are opting to run — for the first time — as Republicans rather than as Democrats in a “quiet political upheaval” across U.S. border towns, fueled mostly by rising crime and constant waves of illegal immigration. The Times reports: First, the Democratic county judge said she would seek another term — as a Republican. Then the county clerk and the treasurer decided that they too would abandon

On the eve of President Biden’s first State of the Union address, Monday, the broadcast networks previewed his big speech and each took a different approach, with ABC lamenting that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “forced” Biden to change his speech and CBS touting a fence around the Capitol. NBC was the outlier that showed Biden’s new terrible poll numbers from… ABC! “And Mary, the President and his team forced to rework parts of this speech in light of this Russian invasion,” ABC’s World News Tonight anchor David Muir huffed as he directed his question to senior White House correspondent Mary Bruce. “I'm curious what your sources are telling you tonight
Why Russia is highly unlikely to use nuclear weapons 20 replies

As Russia struggles to conquer Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has moved his strategic nuclear forces to a heightened alert posture. Satellite imagery also indicates that the Russian Northern Fleet has moved more ballistic missile submarines into Arctic and Barents sea patrol sectors. While U.S. nuclear forces remain at standard readiness levels, the U.S. military has a greater baseline readiness and redundant nuclear strike capability than does Russia. I suspect the ultimate intent of Putin's public nuclear threat is to dangle the risk of escalation so as to deter Western unity on further sanctions.

Nearly all Senate Democrats voted in favor of a bill that would allow doctors nationwide to terminate fetuses nine months into a pregnancy. The Senate on Monday failed to advance the most pro-abortion bill in history, the Women's Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe v. Wade to repeal all abortion restrictions across the nation. The bill states that doctors could abort babies at any point in a pregnancy if they determine a continuation "would pose a risk to the pregnant patient's life or health." The bill was never expected to pass the 60-vote threshold to advance to a vote, but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) faced pressure from pro-abortion activists and more liberal members

Biden’s Dismal State of the Union Address Prospects 13 replies

Most State of the Union speeches are forgettable events, where presidents simply lay out their laundry list of desired policies within a highly unedifying cliche-to-substance ratio. But once in a while a State of the Union speech actually matters, and such is the case with President Biden’s address tomorrow night. First, most SotU speeches run an hour or more. Can Biden actually make it that long? But much more important is the substance of the speech. Most SotU addresses start taking shape in the fall, around Thanksgiving. I have previously speculated that the late date of Biden’s first SotU (they are usually in late January or early February, when the president submits

Americans overwhelmingly favor increased economic sanctions against Russia and broadly support further action to stop Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but most oppose direct US military action, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. Eighty-three percent of Americans said they favored increased economic sanctions against Russia in response to the invasion, with just 17% opposed. New sanctions and economic restrictions aimed at Russia were announced by the US and other countries while the poll was in the field on Friday and Saturday. Support for increased sanctions in the new poll stands well above the 67% who favored the same in 2014 amid Russia's incursion

The Ukraine War scenes of Russian soldiers crying in shame and main battle tanks abandoned due to lack of fuel tell the story of a war gone seriously wrong for Russian strongman Vladimir Putin. Scenes like these aren’t uncommon: “Amateurs study strategy,” the old saw goes. “Professionals study logistics.” The “reformed” Russian Army can’t get its Ukraine War logistics straight, can’t keep their vehicles fueled. What a bunch of amateurs. This next clip is heart-wrenching. It’s a captured Russian soldier crying after being told by locals that he isn’t welcome in Ukraine.

The government of Turkey changed its view of Russia’s attack on Ukraine over the weekend, declaring the assault is “officially a war,” which activated certain clauses in a treaty that allows Turkey to restrict access to the Black Sea through the Dardanelles and Bosporus Straits. On Monday afternoon, Turkey announced it will forbid the passage of all warships through the straits. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday to close the straits to Russian warships. An excited Zelensky immediately announced Erdogan agreed to the request: Turkish officials had previously disagreed, saying Erdogan had not yet made any decision “to close the straits to Russian ships yet.”

President Biden will promote a new “988” crisis hotline and outline funding to combat the harmful effects of social media when he devotes a portion of his State of the Union Address to the “unprecedented mental health crisis” in the country, the White House said. The three-digit hotline is available in some parts of the country, but a July launch will make it available nationwide as part of an interconnected network of local crisis centers that can respond to calls and texts. Mr. Biden plans to propose nearly $700 million in funding in his fiscal 2023 budget to “staff up and shore up” local crisis centers.

The so-called CROWN Act, which stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair, adds a definition of race that is inclusive of natural hairstyles and textures to the Minnesota Human Rights Act. It's an effort to break down barriers that Black Minnesotans face at work, school and in other public spaces for wearing hairstyles such as braids, locs and twists. The bill "will clearly define that no one should be prevented from a job or an education because of the way that their hair naturally grows

Nearly every Senate Democrat voted in favor of legislation Monday which would have radically expanded abortion rights beyond even the Supreme Court’s ruling in Roe v. Wade. The Women’s Health Protection Act would have forced every state to allow abortions for any reason until at least the point of viability, generally defined at around six months into a pregnancy, and banned most restrictions on abortion up to the point of birth. Every Republican voted against the bill, and every Democrat except Sen. Joe Manchin voted in favor, NBC News reported.

I’m having a problem using the president’s formal title and name together. It’s not a matter of Republican disrespect for a Democrat. I referred to both Barack Obama and Bill Clinton by their presidential titles. It’s a matter of legitimacy. Over half of all Americans now believe that fraud affected the outcome of the last Presidential election. The Arizona election audit didn’t prove that the Donald won, as many hoped. But it did prove that we don’t really know who won that state. Given the election shenanigans around the country in November 2020, there is certainly justification to question the outcome.

President Joe Biden’s nominee to replace Justice Stephen Breyer on the Supreme Court, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, apparently refuses to use the term “illegal alien” in her court opinions, opting instead for “noncitizen.” In a handful of immigration-related cases that Jackson has ruled on U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, she has made a note to employ the term “noncitizen” or “undocumented non-citizens” rather than the terms “alien” or “illegal aliens” that are regularly used in court and in federal statutes.
