I love those "Any Functioning Adult 2020" bumper stickers as much as any upper-middle-class suburban white liberal. But if I'm honest, it isn't really true. I will never vote for Donald Trump, but that doesn't mean I'll cast a ballot for any Democrat with a pulse. I would vote for no one rather than contribute to the victory of a candidate who fails to show minimal competence and capacity for responsible leadership.
Judged by that standard, the Democratic field isn't looking very good right now. Yes, it's early. There's plenty of time to mollify my concerns. But at the moment, none of the leading candidates seem like serious contenders.
Republicans are facing an early headache of nightmare primary fights as they plot to keep control of the Senate. In Alabama and Kansas, two deep-red states that should be safe GOP seats, the party is facing bids from conservatives Roy Moore and Kris Kobach, respectively, who are viewed as unelectable in a general election and have a history of stealing the national spotlight.
The variety and vehemence of put-downs in the media today must reveal fear. Nothing else could account for the near-hysterical reaction to a meeting aimed at free speech.

Today marks the White House “Social Media Summit,” and the level of disparagement is startling.
The plan to deport about one million illegal aliens announced by Acting United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Ken Cuccinelli is not a matter of discretion. Cuccinelli is just following the law, and already issued court orders.
Those subject to deportation under the plan have already had their cases adjudicated in the United States, with immigration judges ruling they have lost their cases, and ordering them deported. Cuccinelli is just the first federal official, besides President Trump, brave enough to follow and implement the law.

California is the first state to allow taxpayer-funded health care benefits to go towards people residing in the U.S. illegally.
Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law on Tuesday which would allow low-income adults under the age of 25 to receive state Medicaid benefits through its Medi-Cal program regardless of immigration status.
Officials say the plan should cost taxpayers $98 million to cover 90,000 people, although the state already covers children 18 and younger through the state’s Medicaid plan.
The recently signed law would only cover illegal aliens with an income low enough to qualify for the program.

I suppose I should be thrilled that the U.S. Women's soccer team won its second world title but I confess to rooting for all their opponents during the games.
I don't particularly care for soccer anyway but it was the purple-haired star player Megan Rapinoe who turned me off by spouting her disdain for any White House visit before she was even asked.
Did she do that for publicity or was her Trump derangement too deeply entrenched? Stomping on the American flag even accidentally during the World Cup celebration was more proof of her unworthiness to represent our great country.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are preparing to conduct raids beginning Sunday to arrest thousands of illegal immigrants across the U.S. just weeks after President Trump announced that he was delaying the operation.

The governor of Louisiana on Wednesday declared a state of emergency over a storm that’s already caused severe flooding in New Orleans.
The treacherous system, which is spinning in the Gulf of Mexico, is expected to make landfall in the Pelican State on Saturday, either as a tropical depression or as a tropical storm nicknamed “Barry.”
