The Homeland Security Department is circulating a draft proposal that would severely curtail its attempts to strip citizenship from people who were naturalized based on fraud. The Washington Times saw a draft of the memo, from Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the heads of the three immigration agencies. The memo says people might not apply for citizenship because they worry about losing it in the future. “Naturalized citizens deserve finality and security in their rights as citizens,” the memo says. “Department policies should not cause a chilling effect or barriers for lawful permanent residents seeking to naturalize.” Denaturalization is a part of federal law.

Consumer prices in September increased U.S. inflation to 5.4% compared to a year ago, according to the Labor Department monthly consumer price index report, released Wednesday.
The number matches the highest such rate since 2008, amid global supply chain issues.
The Consumer Price Index rose 0.4% in September from August, with the costs of new cars, food, gas, and restaurant meals all increasing.
The annual increase in the consumer price index matched readings in June and July as the highest in 13 years, the department's Bureau of Labor Statistics also reported.

The COLA, as it’s commonly called, amounts to $92 a month for the average retired worker, according to estimates released Wednesday by the Social Security Administration. That marks an abrupt break from a long lull in inflation that saw cost-of-living adjustments averaging just 1.65% a year over the last 10 years.
The latest inflation reading shows that prices rose by 5.4 percent on an annualized basis in September as supply chain bottlenecks, worker shortages and high demand kept prices rising, according to data released Wednesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The inflation rate rose a seasonally adjusted 0.4 percent in September from August, according to the latest Consumer Price Index. That is well below the 0.9 percent seen in June but not enough to point to slowing inflation.
Increases in food and shelter accounted for more than half of the index’s increase, with food rising 0.9 percent. Gasoline rose 3.9 percent and new vehicles rose by 1.3 percent.
