A new requirement for truck drivers coming from Canada to be vaccinated against COVID-19 could add to supply chain challenges for everything from cars to fruit. The Canadian Trucking Alliance said it could effect more than 12,000 drivers who cross the border daily. "Based on surveys done by the Alliance, and national vaccination averages, CTA believes this will result in a 10-15% exit rate of the 120,000 truck drivers currently crossing the border," the group said. The organization said it is working with its counterparts in the U.S. before the vaccination mandate goes into effect.

BRUSSELS (AP) — Tensions soared Monday between Russia and the West over concerns that Moscow is planning to invade Ukraine, with NATO outlining potential troop and ship deployments, Britain saying it would withdraw some diplomats from Kyiv, and Ireland denouncing upcoming Russian war games off its coast as unwelcome. The Western alliance’s statement summed up moves already announced by member countries, but restating them under the NATO banner appeared aimed at showing its resolve. It was just one of a series of announcements that signaled the West is ramping up its rhetoric in the information war that has accompanied the Ukraine standoff.

New York City's Eric Adams vowed to crack down on crime if elected mayor, but after just three weeks in the position, he’s facing major setbacks as crimes continue sweeping the city. "It's terrible - the city has gotten worse now," Vincente Malava told WABC of the increase in crimes. Over the course of the last three weeks, the five boroughs have been rocked by a 16% increase in shootings compared to last year, a 65% increase in transit crimes, and a 25% increase in robberies. Meanwhile, the NYPD is reeling from the five officers who have been shot since Jan. 1, including a rookie cop who was shot dead.

When White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stepped into the briefing room for the first time last year, it was seen as a return to a functional relationship between the administration and the press corps. Gone were the days of briefings simply never happening, of insulting journalists and exposing them to Covid-19. You never know what the day’s going to look like when you wake up. Typically, I have meetings and calls from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The first is with my team. We talk about the news of the day. We have some laughs.

The CDC has officially moved the goalposts on what it means to be vaccinated from COVID-19. We all knew this day was coming, even as an onslaught of “fact-checkers” assured us it was “misinformation” to assert such a change was coming publicly. But first, let’s talk about the details. CDC Dir. Rochelle Walensky appeared on CBS News and shared the news that the two-dose regiment will no longer suffice to be considered “fully vaccinated.” Instead, you will need a booster jab in order to be classified as “up to date.” That comes as part of a “pivot” in language by the government, one that many were maligned for predicting.

Joe Scarborough was not impressed by President Joe Biden’s press conference, saying it failed to project an image of strength to America’s adversaries. As Morning Joe broke down the conference on Thursday, they focused on the moment when Biden suggested that a “minor incursion” could happen in Ukraine as Russia continues to amass military forces on the country’s eastern borders. Biden’s remarks seemed to suggest that the U.S. might not act against Russia over a “minor incursion,” though White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki issued a statement after the presser to clarify such an event...
BREAKING: Schumer Suffers Crushing Defeat
on Filibuster, as Manchin and Sinema Stand Firm

I’m not sure what Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) thought he was going to get by pushing a vote on the Democratic effort to federalize elections (which they call ‘voting rights’) and on the filibuster. Schumer knew that he was likely to get a “no” on the filibuster from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). They’ve only been holding fast on the subject for months. Both also were very firm on the subject in speeches — Sinema earlier in the week and Manchin earlier on Wednesday. It wasn’t happening, they said. But Schumer decided to commit electoral suicide anyway, and he got it tonight.

The overwhelming majority of Senate Democrats will soon move to eliminate the filibuster -- which has protected the rights of the chamber’s minority for more than a century – because they feel the need to pass ‘voting rights legislation’ is just too intense to be blocked by the 60-vote threshold. By merging several pieces of legislation into one mega-bill and calling it the ‘Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act,’ Democrats are trying to scare people into believing that if the bill doesn’t pass, they will lose their right to vote.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is finally giving his progressive colleagues a chance to vent their frustrations with Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) over the stalled Democratic agenda. With Democratic control of Congress in serious danger of slipping away and President Biden’s legislative agenda stalled, frustrated Democrats are looking for someone to blame and Schumer this week is giving them a cathartic chance to point the finger.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will propose a talking filibuster in an attempt to persuade Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., to change Senate rules and allow a vote on the Democratic-led effort to overhaul the U.S. election system. "If the Republicans block cloture on the legislation before us, I will put forward a proposal to change the rules to allow for a talking filibuster on this legislation," the New York Democrat said Tuesday after a meeting with Senate Democrats to discuss a path forward for the legislation. "Historically, changes to the Senate rules have been necessary to adapt to a change circumstances."

Ray Epps, the Arizona man at the center of claims that FBI informants provoked the Capitol riot, is scheduled to sit down for a transcribed interview with the Jan. 6 House select committee Friday. The select committee disclosed last Tuesday that Epps told them during an interview in November that he had no involvement with the FBI or any other law enforcement agency before, during, or after the Capitol riot. Epps's lawyer, John Blischak, told Politico that the meeting was merely a precursor for the more formal transcribed interview scheduled to take place Friday.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) went off on the GOP and moderate Democrat senators who are standing in the way of the Democrats’ radical voting agenda, claiming opponents of the legislation and a change to filibuster rules are “dishonoring” the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and making our deceased forefathers and leaders like MLK and President Abraham Lincoln have “tears in their eyes,” unless the bills are passed.
