Levittown, NY—In the U.S. Declaration of Independence, the phrase "created equal" is followed by the passage that Americans are "endowed… with certain unalienable rights," including "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." The writers and signers of the 1776 declaration were white, male property owners who extended those unalienable rights only to people like themselves. It wasn't until 1856 that all U.S. states allowed non-property owners the right to vote. Even that milestone allowed only white men to be full U.S. citizens, but the precedent had long been set—that ownership of property could be the root of inequity in the U.S. The discrimination and segregation

The violent clashes in Portland and Kenosha are bad news for Joe Biden’s campaign. It’s not that he is to blame for the riots. It’s not that he hasn’t occasionally condemned such violence, as he did in a more full-throated way yesterday in Pittsburgh. It’s not that everyone should automatically believe President Trump’s explosive charge that no one will be safe in Joe Biden’s America, since at the moment he holds no office. But the Democratic nominee left himself vulnerable to this rhetoric assault, and he and his campaign have been less than nimble in playing defense.

The sheriffs of Clackamas and Washington County in Oregon said they won't send staff to help with the nightly unrest in Portland after Gov. Kate Brown unveiled a plan to bring an end to violence in the city. Brown had asked the sheriffs and the Gresham Police Department to support the Portland Police Bureau with personnel and resources "to keep the peace and protect free speech." Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts on Monday said the governor never approached him before unveiling her plan to mobilize local law enforcement agencies in the Portland protests, and that he has no plans to send his staff to nightly demonstrations.

President Trump told Fox News' Laura Ingraham in an exclusive interview Monday night that he believes demonstrations outside the White House on the final night of the Republican National Convention last week were bankrolled by "some very stupid rich people." Trump added on "The Ingraham Angle" that an RNC attendee had traveled to Washington "on a plane from a certain city, and in the plane it was almost completely loaded with thugs wearing these dark uniforms, black uniforms with gear and this and that."
