A commission created by Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has recommended a slew of changes to public buildings in the district that includes scrubbing Thomas Jefferson’s name from schools and potentially removing the Washington Monument. The District of Columbia Facilities and Commemorative Expressions (DCFACES) board submitted its recommendations to Bowser on Monday, suggesting changes to monuments, memorials, and public spaces to better reflect “DC values.” Bowser assembled the committee in July to “review the legacy of namesakes of District assets.”“This July, I tasked the DCFACES Working Group with evaluating public spaces to ensure the namesake’s legacy is consistent with #DCValues,”

Occasionally we hear of an effort to make DC into a state.
This is the best reason there is to deny the process forever.

Federal property, not her decision. But it does give you a view into a mind diseased by hatred .

I read that as DCFECES; an honest mistake. Recall also that the Founders are a smear on our nation, yet the statue of corrupt crackhead Mayor Marion Barry stands tall in DC, honored simply because he's bLACK. The tribalism runs so deep with these people that it's probably not fixable.

Since the mayor is getting "woke"...The name "Washington,DC has got to go. I am also triggered by the name, "White House"
It reminds me of a plantation and must be burned to the ground.

Give it up, Muriel. All are part of the National Park Service under the jurisdiction of the Dept. of the Interior. You have no authority.
BTW, this is the woman who is now saying she fears a race war coming - after she used taxpayer money to provide the supplies and helped paint the BLM atrocity on the road by the White House. Fear, my arse. She WANTS a race war. Why she thinks her side would win is beyond me.

Untold thousands of black people have last names like Washington and Jefferson. I guess we'll start seeing a bunch of Tyrone and Laquisha X's.

The "city" of DC and the "mayor" are at-will creations of Congress. They have no authority to redefine National Monuments substituting DC values for AMERICAN National values. If they persist, Congress can fire the mayor and deestablish DC as a city and go back to the good old days of running DC directly.

The District of Columbia is not an organic city, nor is it a creature of a state, like most cities in the US but is officially a US territory. DC is a creation of the US federal government, for the US federal government. The feds allow a mayor to be elected and preside over the squalid projects, upscale apartments and parasitic businesses within Washington city but the mayor has no jurisdiction to decide what stays in or gets tossed out of DC. The mayor's attempts to govern can be vetoed by Congress at its leisure.

The trappings of her mayoralty, and all the Rights and privileges she enjoys as a citizen, come from the minds of these Founding geniuses, and she can't come close to understanding her own shallow, weak, dull-wittedness.
I think the mayoralty should be cancelled and replace by an appointed caretaker of the City, like a museum director, for a delineated term, and that if the person fails to protect the monuments of the City, said person is removed from the directorship. Then have a special law enforcement quasi military agency to police the City, protecting lives and property. This will probably require a Constitutional Amendment. Let's get to it!

What nerve! The statues and monuments belong to the people of the United States, not some ignorant and hateful a@@hats who dwell in DC. Congress oversees DC. They should step in and put a stop to it. Oh yes, DC values? Look what they have turned the city into! They are just looking to start a war.

It is past time for Congress to rescind the authority granted to Washington, DC to govern itself. It is time for Congress to appoint a federal governor and police force, as well as form and populate the court system in the city. There is no provision in the Constitution that grants Washington, DC the power to operate as a city without the approval of Congress. If the Republicans take back the Congress, this should be a priority. The federal government, regardless of party in power, can never be held hostage to low level political stooges. This should have been done during the felonious Marion Barry years.
