The White House is preparing for Janet Yellen to leave her post as Treasury Secretary as soon as November as Americans rank the economy as one of their biggest concerns with just weeks until Election Day.
Her potential departure is in the early stages and would come after the 2022 midterms, people familiar with the matter told Axios, and no decision has been made on a replacement. Yellen would be the most consequential exit from President Joe Biden's White House so far, especially as the nation grapples with record-high inflation and gas prices and classically defined recession with two straight quarters of negative GDP growth.

It may never be possible to determine definitively whether Monday’s underwater explosions at the two Nord Stream gas pipelines were the work of Russian sabotage, but it is certainly the way to bet.
The incidents took place close to – but just outside – the 12-mile territorial waters of Denmark’s Bornholm in the Baltic Sea, the kind of calibration that might be expected from a state actor mindful of the country’s Nato membership. What is not immediately clear is how any attack would have been carried out. A submarine targeting the pipelines should have been detected in the Baltic’s relatively shallow waters, where depths rarely exceed 100 metres.

The Washington Post handed down four "Pinocchios" to Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., for her claim warning of the "end" Social Security and Medicare if Republicans take control of Congress. Murray, who is fighting in a tightening reelection battle against GOP challenger Tiffany Smiley, tweeted on Sunday, "Republicans plan to end Social Security and Medicare if they take back the Senate."
Glenn Kessler, the Post's fact-checker, characterized Murray's tweet as a "'Mediscare' attack" to win over senior voters.
"Don’t worry, seniors: There is no such plan," Kessler assured elderly readers.

New York—With two hurricanes in less than two weeks—Fiona and Ian—affecting the eastern U.S., the situation is a reminder of how vulnerable our region is to flooding and other storm damage. It’s also why a new, comprehensive plan to protect New York Harbor from the effects of storms has been introduced by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The detailed proposal has a $52 billion price tag and would combine a variety of coastline protection systems, both manmade and natural, to guard against the most devastating effects of a storm, according to Corps of Engineers planners.(Snip)Specifically, the federal government would pay for 65 percent

Yet another electric vehicle disaster is making the rounds on the internet, this time as a YouTuber with over 1.4 million followers tried towing an ancient 1930s Ford Model A truck with a contemporary Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup. Despite setting the bar ridiculously low–he just wanted to tow it just over 100 miles round trip–the entire experiment failed in a spectacularly “complete and total disaster.” Youtuber Tyler Hoover says in the video, seen below, that “[i]f a truck towing 3,500 pounds can’t even go 100 miles—that is ridiculously stupid.(Snip)“This truck can’t do normal truck things. Something really strange just happened. On Monday, large underwater “explosions” were detected in the precise areas of the sea where the Nord Stream pipeline system is now leaking. In fact, the explosions were so large that they actually registered on the Richter scale. If someone wanted to purposely damage the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, very large explosions would be needed because those pipelines are extremely thick. So it appears that this was a deliberate act of sabotage, and that is what many European officials are now alleging. But if that is the case, who was behind it?

This past Friday, Kevin McCarthy and other GOP U.S. House leaders unveiled the long-awaited “Republican Commitment to America.” It didn’t disappoint. The plan was fittingly announced in Washington, Pennsylvania, not Washington, D.C. It addresses the mounting concerns of America’s hard-pressed majority: the working- and middle-classes.
That’s most of us -- whatever race, color, or creed. We’re daily struggling under the spreading policy and governance failures of our shady, witless president, Joe Biden, and congressional Democrats. Let’s not leave out Joe’s handlers and department and agency chiefs for ample rations of blame.
The Commitment was modeled after Newt Gingrich’s uber-successful 1994 “Contract with America.”

It’s no secret that government agencies give the Left more of a leash than the Right. Headline-grabbing stories over the past few years have exposed the overt political biases of agencies such as the FBI and the Justice Department. But underreported is a much larger story of the same ideological malfeasance in the nonprofit sector, a topic less sexy than corruption in the intelligence agencies, but arguably more important due to the growth of political activism via charities. In fact, what the IRS isn’t doing in the nonprofit (or “public charity”) sector will affect the midterm elections far more than any FBI raid ever could.

Morgan Stanley’s Chief U.S. Equity Strategist Michael Wilson said that he’s convinced a corporate earnings recession is coming—and that it could be worse than a “normal” recession.
(snip) is looking closely at the U.S. business earnings story and the impact of corporate profits on equities, which have been on a wild ride in recent months.
“We think it’s unavoidable … to avoid an earnings recession and that’s what matters for stocks,” Wilson said, with his remarks coming on the same day that the so-called Wall Street fear gauge soared to its highest level since mid-June when U.S. equities last hit a bear market bottom.

Former liberal Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renzi has dismissed alarmist claims in the global media that incoming Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is a “danger to democracy”, telling CNN “the idea that now there is a risk of fascism in Italy is absolutely fake news.”
“Personally, I was against Giorgia Meloni. I’m not her best friend. We grew up together in politics, but we are, and will be, rivals, always,” said Renzi, who served as Prime Minister of Italy for nearly three years until December 2016, and is the leader of the liberal “Italia Viva” party. “At the same time, I think [Meloni] is not a danger [to] Italian democracy,”

The migrant smuggling economy at the U.S.-Mexico border now tops $20 billion and the cartels have made at least $2.6 billion in profit over the past 12 months just from controlling the routes illegal immigrants use, according to a Washington Times analysis. Both amounts are up substantially from the Trump and Obama years because more people are coming to the border and because they are paying higher prices. Mexican migrants are paying an average of $8,600 in total smuggling fees this year, according to The Washington Times’ database of smuggling cases. That’s up roughly $2,000 from 2019, the last pre-pandemic year under the Trump administration.

Staffers at the New York Times are openly discussing the possibility of a work stoppage as talks with management have reportedly hit an impasse over the union’s demands for a salary hike.
The guild representing journalists at the newspaper also wants management to commit to an 8% annual salary increase year-over-year for a period of four years.
But management has countered with a significantly smaller hike — a 4% increase for the first year followed by a 2% boost for the following two years, according to Insider.

California finds itself on edge more than ever with a lingering fear: the threat of rolling blackouts for years to come. Despite new power plants, building huge battery storage systems and restarting some shuttered fossil fuel generators over the past couple of years, California relies heavily on energy from other states — the cavalry rushing over a distant hill. Sometimes the support does not show up when expected or at all. That was the case this month, when millions of residents got cellphone alerts urging them to cut their energy use as the state teetered close to blackouts in blazing heat.

t almost sounds like a scene from an Indiana Jones movie: a dusty warehouse. The smell of must permeating the air. The only sound the scurrying of the occasional rat. And entombed within it, thousands of boxes upon boxes, practically stamped “TOP SECRET.”
But this is no flight of Hollywood fantasy. It is the reality of what remains of the Barack Obama presidency: Twenty truckloads of crates, kept in a space that formerly housed the inventory of Plunkett Furniture, containing roughly thirty million documents generated during the eight years of Obama’s time in the Oval Office.

A woman arriving at JFK airport for her job as a security guard fears she'll lose her sight in one eye after she was savagely beaten by a homeless career criminal at the airport subway station. Elizabeth Gomes, 33, arrived at the Howard Beach station in Queens, New York City, at around 5:15am on September 20. Waheed Foster, 41, tried to start a conversation, but when she ignored him he flung himself at her—dragging her to the ground then kicking and punching her. Foster, who was arrested for murdering his 82-year-old foster grandmother in a brutal beating at the age of 14, rained blows down

The Democrats’ massive climate spending and tax bill gave the Department of Agriculture (USDA) $2.2 billion in loans to pay farmers, many of whom are black, who have previously been denied USDA loans due to discrimination.
The provision, which was backed by Democratic Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Raphael Warnock of Georgia, is intended to provide financial assistance to farmers, ranchers or forest landowners that the department determines to have experienced discrimination in USDA farm lending programs before Jan. 1. 2021, according to the bill’s text. Although the funding could go to any farmer that the government has discriminated against, such as white women or members of the LGBTQ

Goldman Sachs has launched a wave of mass layoffs of workers across the US after dishing out cushy bonuses and high salaries during the pandemic - amid an anticipated drop in earnings as the economy slows.
The investment banking division of the Wall Street giant launched the effort last week, according to a report, firing hundreds of bankers in offices across the globe, as it looks to rein in expenses and weed out low-performing employees.
Employees at all levels were affected by the cull, sources said - with the brunt of the effort being felt by senior-to-mid-level staffers, such as several senior associates and vice presidents.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy told Breitbart News exclusively that all options are on the table when it comes to how a Republican majority next would pressure Democrat President Joe Biden to achieve the GOP “Commitment to America” agenda and roll back the Biden agenda.
“We’re going to use every means possible to have the pressure to implement the Commitment to America and at the same time put America back on the right track,” McCarthy said.

Nobody has yet come up with a definitive estimate of the full taxpayer cost of President Joe Biden’s student loan bailout, but the numbers are already staggering. And as budget-busting as this one is, it’s only whetted the Left’s appetite for more loan bailouts.
When the White House announced Biden’s plan, they said the cost of the loan cancelations would cost $240 billion over 10 years. The Congressional Budget Office just released its estimate and pegged the cost at $400 billion, plus another $20 billion in costs by the extension of Biden’s “emergency” payment suspension through the end of this year – a suspension allegedly

California Governor Gavin Newsom insists he will not run for President in 2024. That’s hard to believe after his ads and billboards in red states, as well as his “feud” with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. This is not the first time Newsom has said something or promised something and broken it, just like his promise to end homelessness in 10 years … which he promised in 2008. Homelessness has only worsened in California under Newsom’s watch. Former candidate for Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors District 1, and outraged citizen, Kevin Dalton, tweeted: On Saturday, during an interview at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, Newsom was asked whether

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said he worries about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), asserting that the Sunshine State’s leader is a “bully.”
Newsom traveled to Texas — notably one of the states subject to California’s ban on “state-funded and state-sponsored travel” — over the weekend, speaking at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin where he further expressed his newfound obsession with disliking DeSantis. “I worry about Trump. [I] worry about Trumpism. I worry more about Tucker Carlson. I worry about Ron DeSantis. He’s a bully,” Newsom said, attempting to provide an example of such abominable behavior.

If you have the feeling that liberals would like to kill you, you aren’t paranoid. You are catching on.
Around the world, we are seeing increasingly violent talk from the Left. All too often, that talk has led to violent action. When Congressman and Senate candidate Tim Ryan says “we’ve got to kill and confront” the movement of “extremist Republicans,” you are right if you think he means you.
This liberal outrage comes from the U.K.: a video game in which you try to kill Margaret Thatcher. The game is endorsed by a former leader of the Labour Party:

Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich has written a scathing letter to the Washington Department of Transportation about the agency's failure to clear a homeless camp from being established on its local property.
“Consider this letter notice to WSDOT that I plan to clear this camp by mid-October,” he wrote. “WSDOT's dereliction of their duties to address this matter must not continue.”
(snip) The sheriff concludes his letter by inviting state officials to demonstrate their compassion for Camp Hope residents by opening their own homes to guests, which he said is consistent with the agency’s suggestion to East Side neighborhoods.
