A man casually carrying a shotgun and claiming to be from Chicago walked into a Florida convenience store during an attempted robbery but got a huge surprise when the clerk displayed his own weapon, authorities said.
Rakim Stephen Tate, 32, made a bad decision that "became a worse decision" when he walked into a convenience store on Sept. 9 with a visible shotgun to his side, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
Unfortunately for Tate, the store clerk saw him arming himself before entering the store.
This allowed the clerk time to procure his own weapon as Tate entered.
Arm up people.. 'tis what it's gonna take!

Mister “I’m from Chicago” should have been shot dead as soon as he opened his mouth.

Benelli? Nice shotgun for a street thug to be carrying around. I am sure he acquired it lawfully. s/off

FTA: A statement from the Escambia County sheriff’s office describing the incident read, ‘He then fumbles for words, resorting to meaningless babble about being from Chicago. Words seem to fail you when your felony attempt is thwarted by lawful and righteous force.’
I guess the clerk was supposed to feint away at the mention of scummy Chicago. Oops. I'll guarantee you something, the punk isn't out on bond already.

Clerk should have shot him immediately.
That shotgun was a really lethal weapon. Anyone in the store was at risk of death.

Re#3: I was thinking the same thing. I would love to have a Benelli M4, but those things are quite spendy. Had to settle for a good old Remington 870. Good piece.

"I'm from Chicago" means, I'm expecting to be the only one with a gun and I'm stupid.
He's lucky he wasn't shot.

second post apologies, but, #6, the Remington 870 is a good workhporse, journeyman kind of shotgun, which will do the job as well as the Benelli.
I often post about my late best friend, Hubert. We used to waterfowl hunt together, while in graduate school. Hubert was convinced that he could not hit ducks and geese because he didn't have an expensive enough shotgun, so he bought a Winchester 21 12 guage double barrel. I had purchased and trained a Labrador Retriever, and when I shot my Mossburg pump at a duck or goose, my Labrador Retriever would do a little Snoopy dance, excited to retrieve the bird.
And when Hubert shot his really expensive shotgun, my Labrador would just stare at him. There was no bird to retrieve.

What Tate is saying is that carrying around a gun in Chicago is normal. I believe him.

The thug wasnt at a gun show, so there was no good reason to be entering a convenience store with a shotgun. If I were the clerk, there would be a little less chit chat.

As he was leaving I could tell he was thinking about turning the gun on the clerk but must have realized it doesn't take as long to pull a trigger as it does for him to raise his, aim and fire.

The clerk got the drop on Rakim, who failed with his pathetic "Chicago" warning while diddybopping into the convenience store holding a shotgun. He wasn't quite prepared for his victim to be prepared, and chickened out. Rakim, looking down the barrel of his victim's pistol, is lucky he wasn't immediately shot.

Re #10, IMO, the Mossberg 500 series is better than the 870. Ask a gunsmith which one he fixes more often, it will be the Rem. As for the M4 - nice shotgun, but I have one of the better Turk clones and it runs perfectly, and took the mag extension for a M4, is parts interchangeable for 1/3 the price. Will it run to 75,000 rounds perfectly? Maybe not....but I probably won't put 2,000 through it, ever.
The Mossberg 591 is the hot home defense setup, and now they will feed the shorty shells so 12 or 13 shells in the tube.
