CNN anchor Jake Tapper said Wednesday on his show “The Lead” that the Biden administration should run ads on right-wing websites featuring video of former President Donald Trump discussing his support for COVID vaccinations.
Tapper said, “It’s been more than a year since the first COVID vaccine was authorized in the U.S. and put into an arm. More than 20% of Americans have still not gotten even one shot. It’s hard to argue from where I sit that the Biden administration is doing everything it can to convince vaccine skeptics. For example, it seems obvious to me, and explain to me if I’m wrong or what the complications are here

As Joe and Jill Biden took a walk through the neighborhood where their vacation home is located at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware yesterday. During the walk, they were accompanied by members of the press, along with Secret Service protection. During that time, Biden was asked about issuing a mandate for domestic air travelers to be vaccinated before flying. He said he would do so if his medical team recommends that. This is the latest bit of confusion that the bumbling president has added to COVID-19 confusion chaos.
It’s no wonder there is so much confusion and uncertainty over COVID-19 mandates.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald said in a Tuesday Twitter thread that there was one single moment that changed media coverage of the coronavirus pandemic — and that when it “flipped overnight,” it destroyed trust in media.
The death of George Floyd — at the hands of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin — and the massive protests it inspired prompted a near-180 turn from multiple media outlets that had just spent the previous weeks telling Americans that the only patriotic thing to do was stay home to stop the spread of the virus.
“This was a pivotal moment in the pandemic’s history,” Greenwald began. “For 4 months, the message was clear and unrelenting:

A Vanderbilt University professor argued that insects must compose a larger share of the world’s food supply. In an opinion piece for Bloomberg, Amanda Little — who teaches investigative journalism and science writing at the prestigious university — lauded the European Union’s recent decision to approve insects for human consumption. According to Little, the move ought to be carried out across the globe: The approval confers a kind of dignity to the lowly, protein-rich microbeasts that we foolishly dismiss as pests, and delivers a clear signal that the insect proteins industry is poised for significant growth. Above all, it paves the way for an alternative protein source

On 1 December, a United Airlines passenger plane flew from Chicago to Washington powered solely by fuel made from cooking oils, agricultural waste and other materials rather than fossil fuels.
Billed by the airline as the world’s first fully-loaded passenger flight to run on 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), it was United’s latest attempt to demonstrate its climate credentials. United’s CEO Scott Kirby called it “a significant milestone” for efforts to decarbonize the industry.(Snip)And when it comes to sustainable fuels, supplies remain limited. A growing body of scientific evidence suggest the omicron variant of COVID-19 is less severe than the delta variant -- but according to one prominent New York City emergency room physician, it all depends on what shots you've had.
Omicron is surging out of control in the city, with some Manhattan neighborhoods approaching 20% positivity rates, and hospitalizations doubling or more in recent weeks, particularly in children.
Against that backdrop, the city's emergency rooms are seeing a huge spike in patients - the asymptomatic seeking tests, the symptomatic who don't know where else to go and those in the ER for other reasons altogether who end up having COVID anyway.

Cable news ratings are down across the board this week — traditionally one of the slowest in news — with one exception: Fox News show The Five, which drew a whopping 3.12 million total viewers and 406,000 in the demo. (NB: Because of the holiday weekend, Nielsen ratings are delayed, hence why Monday’s numbers are only coming out today). Those numbers would be impressive in a normal news cycle. But in the week between Christmas and New Year’s, when many cable news hosts are on vacation and their show are hosted by substitutes, it’s particularly impressive. For example: Tucker Carlson

Donald Trump had to be the most fossil-fuel friendly U.S. president of recent times. When he became president, Trump quickly reversed Obama’s energy policies; the Keystone Pipeline was approved, imports from the Middle East were cut, and the price at the pump came down. It was claimed that America had become “energy independent” and was again a “net exporter” of oil. In 2018, the U.S. oil business even surpassed the record petroleum production peak set in 1970. Inasmuch as American petroleum production had been sliding downward since 1970, how did this come about?

The eye-popping amount reportedly does not include annual cost-of-living increases to Fauci’s pension and benefits.
Fauci, who turned 81 on Christmas Eve, has worked for the government for 55 years and was paid $434,312 in 2020, making him the highest-compensated federal employee.

The case for mandates was shaky from the get-go. Forcing one and all to douse themselves with rushed-out vaccines with universally acknowledged higher-than-usual side effect rates was always a questionable choice. The failure to account for natural immunity — providing significantly better protection than vaccines against earlier Covid variants and taken into account in comparable mandates throughout the E.U., in the U.K. and in Israel — was a glaring instance of authoritarian partisan politicians running out ahead of the science in their eagerness to find comfort in demonizing the unvaccinated for a virus that has spread easily in both low-vaccine nations and highly vaccinated nations such as Israel and Germany.

Jingxi is in southern China, nearly 1,000 miles from northern Xi’an, the city Chinese Communist Party officials claim is the epicenter of the current national coronavirus outbreak. Authorities locked down Xi’an, a key historical site for ancient Christian archaeology, on the day before Christmas and have since admitted that China is currently enduring its most

COVID-19 will become “just another cause of the common cold” and people who test positive will have to be allowed to go about their normal lives as they would do with any other cold, a British medical professor has said.
Paul Hunter, professor in medicine at the University of East Anglia, told BBC Breakfast on Dec. 28: “COVID is only one virus of a family of coronaviruses, and the other coronaviruses throw off new variants typically every year or so, and that’s almost certainly what’s going to happen with COVID—it will become effectively just another cause of the common cold.”
Hunter said that, at some point, the daily reporting of COVID-19 case

Boris Johnson faced pressure from across the political spectrum today to take action over soaring energy bills, tax rises and inflation to avoid a 'cost of living catastrophe' whacking the Covid-weary British public in 2022. The Prime Minister was urged to act as a think tank warned that next year will be the 'year of the squeeze', with households facing a hit of at least £1,200. The Resolution Foundation said that the public would face a choke point in April when the energy price cap is raised to account for eyewatering wholesale gas price increases, and a 1.25 percentage point increase in National Insurance contributions (NICs) comes into effect.

There has been a lot of publicity around Joe Biden’s poor approval ratings, but I think his actual standing with the electorate is worse than they indicate. Take, for example, the Rasmussen survey, which I think is valuable because 1) unlike other polls, it samples likely voters, and 2) it polls constantly, publishing a three-day rolling average. Thus, whether the numbers are “right” or not, they are a good indicator of trends.
In Joe Biden’s case, the trend has been obvious: his approval rating quickly dropped to around 42%, and there it sits. But I don’t believe that 40+% of voters, surveying the wreckage of the last year, actually think

Washington state lawmakers introduced a bill this month that would reduce penalties for drive-by shootings with the aim of "promoting racial equity." The bill, introduced by Democratic Representatives Tarra Simmons and David Hackney ahead of the state's 2022 legislative session, would eliminate drive-by shootings as the basis for elevating a first-degree murder charge to aggravated murder in the first degree, which carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. Drive-by shootings were added to the list of aggravating factors for murder charges in 1995.

As the Biden administration continues to fumble its response to the latest wave of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, threats of additional restrictions are looming.
Last night, President Joe Biden told reporters he would implement a vaccine requirement for domestic flights if his medical team recommended it. Earlier this week, Dr. Anthony Fauci did just that. The main problem, in addition to unconstitutional decrees issued by public health officials, is Americans have lost faith in the medical establishment to be honest and follow the science when issuing recommendations.

One sign of success in a sport: When you have the highest winning percentage of any long-tenured coach — but your coaching career becomes almost an afterthought in your biography.
That description applies to John Madden, the former Oakland Raiders coach who transformed himself into one of the best-known, and most-loved, broadcasters in sports — and the namesake of a multi-billion dollar video game franchise. Madden died suddenly on Tuesday at age 85, according to a statement released by the NFL, in which Commissioner Roger Goodell said that “there will never be another John Madden,

Rapid antigen tests for Covid may be less sensitive in detecting the Omicron variant and are leading to 'false negatives,' the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday. The FDA made preliminary findings using samples from patients confirmed to be infected with the new mutant strain. The federal agency said early results show that antigen tests 'do detect the Omicron variant but may have reduced sensitivity,' meaning it's possible the tests could miss an infection, known as a 'false negative.'(Snip)According to a meta-analysis of studies by the Cochrane Library, lateral flow tests detect an average of 72 percent of symptomatic cases and 58 percent of asymptomatic ones.

President Joe Biden, the fellow who promised to end the coronavirus pandemic if we’d just elect him to the nation’s highest office, has officially given up the battle he swore he’d win. It’s now someone else’s problem.
Candidate Biden swore before the entire country just days before the 2020 election that “I’m going to shut down the virus.” But not only has he not stopped its spread, under current trends it will have within a month – the coming winter of death – killed more on his watch than it did while Donald Trump was president. Nearly 385,000 have died from

Joe and Jill Biden have worn masks to walk their dog alone on a beach while on their Delaware vacation. The Bidens - who are booster vaccinated - covered their faces for no apparent reason as they took their German Shepherd puppy, Commander, for a walk along a deserted Rehoboth Beach on Tuesday evening. The President, 79, even continued to wear his mask after the First Lady, 70, took hers off. It's not clear who Biden believed he was protecting or who he felt he needed protection from as the only other people on the beach, the secret service, didn't come within 10 yards.

As of Wednesday it was no longer live, sparking furious speculation from a number of sources that the fact author J.K. WASHINGTON – As Capitol Hill grows more politically toxic, a new survey indicates most Americans are tired of the acrimony and think the sharp partisan divide is harming the nation.
Nearly three of every four Americans said it would be good for the country if Americans "reject political hostility and divisiveness and focus more on their common ground," according to the new poll from Public Agenda and USA TODAY released Thursday.
But they're also pessimistic. Fewer than one in 10 surveyed think political rancor between ordinary Americans will decrease in the next 10 years, compared to nearly half who think it will increase.

Televisions and phone screens lit up Monday night with the face of Rep. Liz Cheney as she slowly read text messages sent on January 6 to former President Donald Trump's chief of staff.
Her methodical recounting of a series of texts to Mark Meadows from lawmakers, reporters, Fox News hosts and even Trump family members underscored what Cheney called Trump's "supreme dereliction of duty" to heed the calls to condemn the ongoing violence at the US Capitol.
But the Wyoming Republican's central performance at the high-profile meeting of the House select committee investigating the January 6 riot also highlights how she has trod a distinct path among Republicans over the last year.

The U.S. Constitution is the sacred text of American government and civic life. But it’s time to face facts: The document, written in 1787, isn’t working. The signs are all around us. Just 38 percent of Americans in a recent Gallup poll expressed either a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the presidency, down from 48 percent in 2001. Congress, never high in the public’s estimation to begin with, fell from 26 percent to a mere 12 percent. The Supreme Court has also taken a hit, down from 50 percent to 36 percent during the same period.

In a recent article, the brilliant commentator Victor David Hanson asks, "What is behind recent pessimistic appraisals of democracy's future from Hillary Clinton, Adam Schiff, Brian Williams, and other elite intellectuals and media personalities?" His answer to this question is "that the left expects to lose power over the next two years[.]"
Perhaps — but on the other hand, maybe the leftists' "pessimistic appraisals" are more of a verbal ploy to suggest they are concerned about democracy when in actuality they are participating in an attempt to enact a coup against democracy, against our beloved republic.

In 2020, Americans learned that if emergency dictated, we could lock down, mask up, and blow out spending to temporarily stymie the impact of a global pandemic. We learned that if uncertainty required massive response, we could mobilize massive response, including the creation of new vaccines within one year.
And in 2021, Americans learned that it's easier to flip the switch on toward top-down control and government dependency than to turn it back off.
