A video posted on social media shows a mother and her child being kicked out of a Queens Applebee’s by a contingent of NYPD cops.
The officers from the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group can be seen surrounding the table during a protest at the Queens Centre Mall on Dec 15. “Unless you have vaccination cards, you have to exit the restaurant,” an officer could be heard saying in the video.(Snip)Others in the restaurant heckle the NYPD officers as they ask the group to leave.(Snip)“If you leave voluntarily, you will not have charges pressed against you. Otherwise, you will be arrested for trespass.
Too bad those same cops couldn't be on the subway or the streets protecting the citizens from violent criminals...

We had some of our Florida family in for Christmas here in Nashville. We have gone out twice. No masks, no vaccine passports, no stupidity. The restaurants are full to the point of having a hard time finding reservations at the most popular spots during mid-week. People are happy, living life.
Covid is over for the free people of this nation!! Let's go Brandon!!
I wouldn't step foot in one of those hell hole cities if you paid me.

After the way that DeBlasio and his cabal have been treating the police in NYC, I’m surprised that these are actually following their tormentors’ orders.

We are losing our rights. This is what it looks like. We are turning into a dictatorship. This is how dictatorships operate.

These same cops directed the Jews onto cattle cars at the railroad station in Germany to send them off on vacation.

Happily for my neighborhood, Applebee's is long gone; the building was torn down and a brand new Whataburger is opening there next week. Ya'll head on over to 37076 Tennessee.

Have we had enough yet? We canceled a trip across country because we're just really tired of wearing masks on planes. Time for adults to speak up!

Ask me if I will care about any cops who get shot during their workday. I mean any cops, anywhere in this nation. They are destroying on their own, all the remaining credibility they have left. I am truly sorry for this situation as well, as I have been acquainted with many fine members of LE in the past. At least the Sheriff's are still trying to hold the line against tyrannical orders in this country as best they can.

This is an example of how the government turns reasonable men and women into Nazi Brownshirts. This will not be an isolated example and look at what has already happened in Australia and Austria.

The NYPD’s Strategic Response Group is/was an elite group that is universally hated by groups like BLM, ACLU, and every other left-wing group that wants to defund the police. They were on the front lines of the 2020 protests and did a lot of intelligence gathering. This group being placed on COVID duty is an insult to them and is a strategic attempt to demoralize and decimate them. They are in a no win situation.
That said, this is over the top.

A lot of cops are in a lose lose situation. In this case it isn't up to them to send a message to Applebees, that is OUR job. As a poster said, a nationwide boycott would change this policy, but then the average citizen would have to find another place to eat for a day or two. It isn't the cop on the beat who comes up with useless guidelines/policies/laws, that is the boot you put on your neck by VOTING for the thugs in office. I do have zero respect for cops that stand by while BLM/Antifa riot, but they would point to orders handed down by political hacks up their chain of command and the politicians that directed their superiors.
Every cop in every department does have to ponder how far they will go to willfully ignore the oath they took when they were given a badge. How far will they go before human decency forces them to take a stand and either lose their job or be arrested themselves. It is to that point on many fronts.

O.K. I hope I don't get slammed by other Ldotters but if you're going to go to a protest, don't bring a small child with you. Several months ago, there was a picture of a small child who was tear-gassed during a riot in Seattle, his parents brought him and that was wrong. You don't bring a defenseless child with you when there might be violence because then whatever happens, it's on you.
Otherwise, I'm with poster #13, we are the people who defend cops and have their backs but if they start doing crap like this than they won't even have us on their side. Right?

We are watching union police do exactly what keeps their jobs. These big tough guys had masks revealing eyes that realized full well they were a party to something utterly WRONG. Some were probably deeply ashamed. Others didn’t care and were nasty to questioning restaurant patrons.
We have seen brave physicians who came to their own waterloo working for Baylor hospital system. In the end, money and position was not enough of an incentive for them or their families to go along with lying to patients about COVID and vaccine jabs. They quit and I am certain God will see to it they are richly blessed. I hope these police will do some soul searching in the coming days because this is only the beginning of the tyranny they will be engircing upon innocent citizens.

#7 Hard to boycott something you wouldn't be caught dead in. We haven't stepped foot in an Applebee's in well over a decade. Bad food, horrible seating. Blech.
#11 Yeehaw! Looking forwards to Whataburger here in Nashville. 'Bout time!

How can the cops arrest people for criminal trespass when they are visiting the restaurant with the consent of the owner?

With incidents of officers being instructed to enforce the draconian whims of our current “leaders”, I guess I’m fortunate to be at retirement age. It’ll be a foregone conclusion if I’m given orders to do something like this. This is horrible, and officers should refuse any such orders. These officers and others would do well to enroll in a refresher course in constitutional law, and Sir Robert Peel’s Principles of Policing.
That said, consider this: The law (at least in TN) says that a private property owner – and that includes a business – can require someone to leave their property. If the person refuses to leave after having been given notice to do so, they can be charged with criminal trespassing.
Here’s how I think I would handle the situation. I would ask the owner (or their “agent” – a manager) if they intend to force their patrons to comply with their government leader’s edict – i.e. do you require them to present their “papers” to dine here? If the answer is “NO”, then I’ll leave with a “Y’all have a nice night”. If the answer is “yes”, then I would make them announce that to the patrons and include that they intend to refer their patrons to the district attorney’s office for prosecution using video or other means to identify them and press charges for violating “the mandate”. I would caution the patrons to avoid any assaultive behavior or vandalism and encourage them to remain peaceful; then I'd leave with “Y’all have a nice night. Dispatch, I’m in-service, parties advised”.
The dispute is between the business owner/agent, the patron, and their elected “leaders”. I refuse to get corrupted by a wanna-be tyrant’s power-trip.
