Child Covid hospitalizations are up, especially

Children have been hospitalized at nearly twice the rate of adults in the past 4 weeks, an NBC News data analysis shows. In the last four weeks, the average number of children hospitalized with Covid-19 jumped 52 percent, from a low of 1,270 on Nov. 29 to 1,933 on Sunday, according to an NBC News analysis of Department of Health and Human Services data. In the same time period, adult Covid hospitalizations increased 29 percent, suggesting that pediatric hospitalizations rose at nearly twice the rate.

Comments:

Here is a fine example of journalistic idiocy from NBC. The sub-headline tells us that twice as many children as adults have been hospitalized with COVID. No. The rate of increase for children is twice that of adults. Deliberate misinformation or incompetence... or both.

Fake news headline. They quote Dr. Paul Offit at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Way down in the article he's quoted: “We test anybody who’s admitted to the hospital for whatever reason to see whether or not they have Covid, and we’re definitely seeing an increase in cases. However, we’re really not seeing an increase in children who are hospitalized for Covid or in the intensive care unit for Covid,” Offit said. [emphasis added]

My five month old granddaughter has covid. She’s had a few days of diarrhea and a cough and nothing more. This morning she was 100% better. Her older brother had the Delta variant in August and ran a low fever for a few hours. And that was it. No hospitals. Just fluids and Tylenol. Fear porn doesn’t fly in our family.

Yup. Looks like inflated case numbers just aren't scaring enough people so now they're looking for any other numbers they can inflate to get the job done.

Anyone who has had a child knows that they get epic colds, spike fevers that would kill an adult, and are generally a mess. Apparently some parents are now taking their kids with Omicron colds to the ER and they are being checked in. In the past I have - during ER visits for injuries - seen the place clogged up with kids - most often Hispanic or black - with seriously runny noses. The parents know they can get free treatment there.

Five centrist Democratic senators have reportedly told the White House that they’ll oppose the nomination of Saule Omarova, President Joe Biden’s controversial lefty pick for head of the Treasury Department’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. The January 6th insurrection made clear the increasing dangers of domestic extremism in the U.S. But with social media spreading online disinformation at an alarming rate, how can law enforcement and experts hope to stop the flow of white supremacist propaganda? Some believe teaching people how to recognize false information and stop them from becoming radicalized in the first place is the best strategy. Methods developed from these partnerships include teaching students about democratic values, providing mental health and job counseling, and educating youths on how radicalization works. CORRECTIONS*

It may surprise you to learn that the most common type of case federal prosecutors bring is not for drugs or fraud, as many think. As reported by The Washington Times, that honor goes to cases against illegal aliens who try to reenter the country after having been deported. And almost all those charged are Hispanic, of course. Now, according to The Times, federal courts are facing the ridiculous question of whether the “imbalance” in deportations means U.S. immigration law is… wait for it… racist. Ridiculous? Lumping Donald Trump with Osama Bin Laden? That's going too easy on the former president! At least, if you ask CNN's "national security analyst" Juliette Kayyem, a former Obama DHS assistant secretary. Appearing on Thursday morning's New Day, Kayyem said that when a year ago in an Atlantic article she depicted Trump as "the leader of a terror movement," she was, as she recently tweeted, actually being "too kind" to him! (Video) Perhaps realizing just how outrageous was Kayyem's accusation, substitute host John Avlon tried to soft-pedal it. He framed it as his Kayyem calling Trump head of an "extremist" movement, not a "terror" one.
