President Donald Trump on Monday announced at the White House that he would act swiftly to end the widespread violence and looting in America’s major cities. After his speech, the president walked to the historic St. John’s Episcopal Church outside the White House where rioters lit a damaging fire in the basement on Sunday.(Photo) “My first and highest duty as president is to defend our great country and the American people,” Trump said during his speech. “I swore an oath to uphold the laws of our nation and that is exactly what I will do.”

WASHINGTON - It began with Attorney General Bill Barr standing with his hands casually in his pockets, not wearing a tie, surveying the scene at Lafayette Park across from the White House, where several thousand protesters had gathered for more demonstrations after the police killing of George Floyd.President Donald Trump had announced he would soon be addressing the nation from the White House Rose Garden, as a 7 p.m. curfew in the city loomed and a mass of law enforcement, including U.S. Secret Service agents, Park Police and National Guardsmen, stood sentry, many dressed in riot gear.

Donald Trump just gave one of the strongest speeches of his career. He promised to protect peaceful protesters and to seek justice for George Floyd, but demanded that Governors deploy the National Guard to stop the rioting, looting, and destruction of neighborhoods. Trump said that if Governors did not act, he would invoke his federal authority to send in the National Guard and other military assets. He didn’t indicate which authority he was invoking, but contrary to popular belief, a president has fairly wide power to put down an insurrection. I’ll post the transcript as soon as I can find it.

The Tunguska event, a seismic blast that rocked a remote Siberian forest more than a century ago, is believed to have been caused by a meteor that exploded before it hit the ground. A new study sheds more light on the asteroid, noting it may have never actually hit Earth at all. The research, published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, theorizes that the asteroid caused a shock wave that resulted in nearly 800 square miles in the Siberian forest to be flattened within seconds, but it never actually hit Earth, as it curved away shortly before breaking up, continuing into space.

My colleagues and I at American Majority work day in and day out to equip candidates with the tools they need to campaign effectively. We train would-be candidates on everything from “get-out-the-vote” efforts to fundraising and messaging. Above all, we train candidates to reach voters’ hearts, not just their minds, and to pay attention to how they formulate their platform and express it.It’s not just about winning arguments in the abstract. It’s about winning people over. So we train candidates to find a message that is not only true to their values, but one that will resonate and address voters’ concerns.

This particular form of viral chaos was inevitable, given the failure of Minneapolis’s leaders to quell the city’s growing mayhem. There was a familiar refrain from political commentators on certain corners of the internet in the early days of the pandemic – a three-word slogan in the vein of ‘Get Brexit Done’ that popped up wherever people felt the government’s lockdown plans impinged on their rights: what about Sweden?
The Nordic country was used as an example of why closing down society in the way that most other European countries have done was unnecessary. Even now, restaurants and bars in Stockholm remain open, children are still going to school, and people are only advised to stay at home if they feel ill – rather than whole households

The South Atlantic Anomaly is a vast expanse of reduced magnetic intensity in Earth's magnetic field, extending all the way from South America to southwest Africa.
Since our planet's magnetic field acts as a kind of shield – protecting Earth from solar winds and cosmic radiation, in addition to determining the location of the magnetic poles – any reduction in its strength is an important event we need to monitor closely, as these changes could ultimately have significant implications for our planet.
At present, there's nothing to be alarmed about. The ESA notes that the most significant effects right now are largely limited to technical malfunctions

The CDC just came out with a report that should be earth-shattering to the narrative of the political class, yet it will go into the thick pile of vital data and information about the virus that is not getting out to the public. A growing number of scientists are raising the possibility COVID-19 was created in a laboratory, saying the option cannot be ruled out.
Leading immunologists and geneticists have told Sky News that there are two unusual things about COVID-19 that open the door to it being man-made rather than a naturally-occurring virus.
The first curious characteristic of COVID-19 is that the virus binds to human ACE2 receptor cells more strongly than it does to any other animal, including bats.
The second unusual thing about the virus that causes COVID-19 is that it has what’s called a “furin cleavage site” that its closest genetic bat-coronavirus relative, RaTG-13, does not have.

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden emerged from his basement over the weekend to observe his city, following days of raucous protests. The former vice president was seen Sunday touring Wilmington, Delaware the morning after protests overtook the city in response to the murder of George Floyd, assessing the damage to local businesses and meeting constituents. The 2020 hopeful was joined during his unannounced visit by Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), with whom he toured small businesses that had been damaged and met with local business owners.“We are a nation in pain, but we must not allow this pain to destroy us.

President Trump, who put in a stellar leadership performance with the coronavirus crisis - recognizing the danger, rendering aid with record speed, deregulating, leading on the cure, bringing in many players, and unlike the blue-city and blue-state satraps, moving to close the operation as the curve flattened. It was Trump's classic "hotel manager" crisis management at its best.
But something's gone wrong with his strange silence and ineffectual tweets with this crisis. I'm not the only one who's noticed - Daily Wire has an impressive wrapup of this worrisome development here.
Its premise of course is quite twisted. One racial incident in a solid blue city

I can’t believe they even tried it. On Saturday morning Minnesota officials came out with an audacious and absurd explanation for the looting and arson that struck Minneapolis this week. Apparently it was white supremacists from out of state who pretended to be actual protestors in an attempt to discredit the protest. The evidence? A vague claim and a lie. It turns out that most of those arrested were actually Minnesota residents.
The hypocritical mental gymnastics from the liberal media in the past 72 hours were amazing enough to earn a perfect 10 from the stingiest East German judge.

The Republic is in the greatest peril since the Civil War. A grand coalition of its enemies is taking advantage of the weakness and frustration created by the lockdown of the economy and ordinary life, the protests triggered by video of lethal barbaric cruelty of a then-police officer, and the economic desperation and frustration that has multiplied over a quarter century of de-industrialization and widening class divisions as globalization has transformed our economy. On Sunday, President Trump took aim at Antifa, which apparently has driven the violent side of the protests ripping through America's Democrat-run cities. With full-throated support from Attorney General Barr, Trump is designating Antifa as a terrorist organization. This is an extremely important announcement because Antifa is more than just a terrorist group. It is, in fact, the paramilitary arm of the Democrat Party. On his way home from a protest Friday night in Minneapolis, Jonathan Turner Bargen encountered a white man in a red pickup truck. The man was carrying an assault rifle and a handgun, Turner Bargen said. I was concerned about why they were present at the downtown protest, and had no idea who to notify,” said Turner Bargen in an email to MPR News. As Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot called in the Illinois National Guard to prevent a second night of downtown violence and looting, the chaos spilled into some city neighborhoods and continued to overshadow the urgent message conveyed during peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.(Snip) About 125 Guard members already reported for duty as of Sunday afternoon and an additional 250 were expected shortly. Former Obama administration national security adviser Susan Rice bizarrely suggested in a televised interview Sunday that the Russians could be behind the violent nationwide demonstrations following the in-custody death of George Floyd, although she offered no evidence for the incendiary claim. Rice's made the claim after top Democrats insisted for years that the White House had conspired with Russia, although Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence to support any conspiracy with Russia by any U.S. actor to influence the 2016 election

The Trump administration says it’s going to declare Antifa to be a terrorist organization. Though overdue, it’s a welcome development. But this doesn’t mean those who aren’t part of Antifa should be free to get away with blocking the free movement of people, property destruction, and violence. They should be prosecuted, too.
While the country was waking up Sunday morning to see how much damage “protesters” had racked up overnight, President Donald Trump tweeted that “the United States of America will be designating Antifa,” which is reportedly participating in the George Floyd riots, “as a terrorist organization.” According to th

There’s nothing like a row between Twitter and President Trump to turn everyone into an expert on 47 U.S. Code § 230, a heretofore obscure section of federal law that deals with liability protections for companies like Twitter.
Go on social media right now and you’re bound to find friends, neighbors, and colleagues opining on federal statutes and citing old Supreme Court cases to bolster their arguments that we have to do this or that right now to save the internet or protect free speech.
So let me just say up front, I am not an expert on Section 230 or on federal liability law generally.

Watching the Minneapolis Police Department abandon its precinct to the torch and crowbar-wielding peaceful protesters in that Democrat-run state and city, my first thought was that I should disarm. After all, I have been reliably informed by our smart and competent elite betters that I don’t need firearms because the police will protect me, and I am sure that even though they can’t defend their own police station they will absolutely defend me, my family, and our pet unicorn Chet.
Confusingly, I have also been reliably informed that the police are evil monsters of racism and badness and that they should be the only ones with guns

Eight states and Washington, D.C., will hold primaries on Tuesday, marking the busiest electoral day since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in mid-March.
Besides presidential contests, the races include a number of congressional primaries, which could have implications for the fight to control the House and Senate in November.
In Iowa, Rep. Steve King (R) will fight to defend his House seat from a GOP challenge from businessman Randy Feenstra, who has been backed by much of the Republican establishment.

Federal, state, and local officials urged U.S. citizens for months to stay indoors to slow the spread of the coronavirus. But now that densely-packed mobs have plunged major cities into mayhem, it’s going to be much harder to enforce lockdowns or social distancing.
Initially, political leaders said shutdowns were temporary expedients to ensure that infections were spread out over a longer period of time so that when there was a peak, the case count was low enough that it wouldn't overwhelm hospitals and trigger a collapse of the medical system. Once that goal was achieved, however, leaders remained illogically reluctant to reopen the economy and transitioned from talking about hospital

When the Justice Department filed a motion to dismiss the charges against Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, it didn’t expect much pushback. Instead, the judge in the case declined the dismissal, opened up a separate investigation into Flynn and hired a high-profile defense attorney for himself.
The district court judge, Emmett Sullivan, has hired attorney Beth Wilkinson to represent him as the Flynn case moves forward, a highly unusual decision for a judge. Wilkinson is known for representing people in high-profile cases; She is the same attorney who represented Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his nomination process.

Law enforcement is a vital response to any riotous uprising. Indeed, I believe the failure to enforce the laws without apology from the start of the upheaval last week has fueled its ferocity. It would be naïve to claim that much of the violence, which is being incited and coordinated by radical groups, might not have happened anyway — these groups are always on a hair-trigger, pouncing on any opportunity to make mayhem. But how badly things get out of control has a lot to do with the resolve of state and federal law enforcement. The laws do not enforce themselves.

It was inevitable that George Floyd’s death would spark protests against police brutality, and that mendacity would characterize the attendant media coverage. True to form, the press affected dismay when the demonstrations devolved into violence, yet reported the riots with obvious approbation. The most obscene example of this was the widespread use, in headlines and ledes, of an out-of-context Martin Luther King quote suggesting that the civil rights leader would have condoned the mayhem. USA Today, for example, ran a feature story bearing the following title: “‘A riot is the language of the unheard’: MLK’s powerful quote resonates amid George Floyd protests.”

George Orwell’s timeless admonition, “Some ideas are so stupid that only intellectuals believe them,” has been given new life by the desperate efforts of pundits, scholars and Twitter blue-checks to defend the violence, looting, disorder and general monstrousness that have overtaken America’s cities.
The glorification of mob violence and petty criminality that was one of the disgraceful hallmarks of bien-pensant thinking throughout the 20th century resonates through every tweet, every deep TV observation and every piece of writing that casts the coast-to-coast destruction and anarchy in a positive light.

As televisions and computers showed a fourth day of protesters turned rioters Saturday, looting and destroying property, it was readily apparent why Americans own 16+ million AR-15s.
When Robert ‘Beto’ O’Rourke was still vying for the Democrat nomination–and pledging to come take away your AR-15–Breitbart News spoke with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) about what a Herculean task that would be. After all, the AR-15 is the most popular rifle platform in America.
NSSF shared their calculations with Breitbart, showing an estimated 16= million privately owned AR-15s in the U.S.
You cannot be blamed if you thought the number was closer to 250 or 300.

I'm already seeing it on Twitter: "Thank goodness we have Bill Barr."
Which makes sense. Here's his plan of action on the beasts overtaking our cities under color of civil rights protests, according to the New York Post:
Attorney General Bill Barr will go after violent demonstrators with a 1968 law meant to quell rioting.
“We must have law and order on our streets and in our communities,” Barr said Saturday at DOJ headquarters in Washington, DC.
“It is a federal crime to cross state lines or to use interstate facilities to incite or participate in violent rioting,” he said. “We will enforce these laws.”
Barr accused “anarchistic and far-left extremists, using Antifa-like tactics”

The death by cop of George Floyd in Minneapolis was grotesque, a clearer example of police brutality that has otherwise rarely been filmed for all to see. Even if, as has been reported, Floyd did not die of asphyxiation or strangulation as it appeared, his death was without a doubt caused by that officer’s cruel and unnecessary action and the inaction of his fellow officers who stood by and watched. That officer has been charged with third degree murder and the other officers have been fired. Judicial due process will ensue, both state and federal.

Let's see if you remember this story: the policeman is accused of killing someone, the incidents sparks so-called protests, the mayor cracks and lets the demonstrators get it out of their system, property and businesses burn down, and then the city is never the same.
That was Baltimore 2014. It sure felt as though I was watching a documentary of that story six years ago.
Why are so many of our cities run by such weak and incompetent leaders?
Former mayor Rudi Giuliani, who did a pretty good job of running New York City, was right on target:
"Progressive Democrats are incapable of keeping their people safe," he said,
