In the aftermath of the Minneapolis riots, the region now risks falling into a perpetual cycle of economic blight similar to comparable urban areas previously scarred by urban mayhem.
In the summer of 1967, violent riots erupted and lasted for five days in Detroit, between the city’s black residents and the local police department after law enforcement raided a bar on the city’s Near West Side. Detroit was still recovering from a previous race riot 24 years prior.
“It stands to reason that businesses will be far less likely to invest in areas where there's a fear of social unrest. That's presumably the biggest long-run negative effect,

Mpls Mayor Jacob Frey and his city clowncil made a huge deal out of renaming Lake Calhoun to an unpronounceable Indian name...because 150 years ago Calhoun supported slavery. An obvious gratuitous gesture to the Black community even when few, if any, were offended by the original name. Well, now we see what Jacob Frey really thinks of the Black community, as he promoted civil unrest and the destruction of their neighborhood. I suggest that this part of Minneapolis also be renamed: Frey-ville. It will be a lasting and fitting tribute to the incompetent, deadly buffoon that he is.

Rioters eat there own; unfortunately, many are from other areas and can go back to their basements to continue plotting further criminal actions.

Minneapolis riot site unlikely to see economic growth for decades. All according to plan. The Democrats cannot make people dependent on them if there is prosperity. They probably want what happened in Minneapolis to happen in all major cities they control.

I was a child in Detroit at that time. I vividly recall the National Guard rolling down to streets during the daytime. Many, many businesses were ruined during that week. Almost NONE of those businesses ever came back. They had lost faith in the government and people of Detroit.
Same thing will happen in many of these newly destroyed cities.

Building a better future for their children and families who live there. Enjoy the burned-out buildings and smell of smoke lingering in the air for weeks to come.

It appears that the tricky ANTIFA anarchists have been successful in fooling and propagandizing the ignorant Black ghetto types to riot again, causing the grocery stores and almost all other critical commercial enterprises that served their Black “communities” to be burned down, looted, and destroyed. It won’t be long before the intelligent portion of the Black “community” wakes up and discovers that those needed businesses are gone, that they are living in what now amounts to a “food desert” and that those businesses will not be coming back for years, if ever, as those rioters have made it almost impossible for those retail business related corporations, private companies, and Mom and Pop shops to obtain insurance at a reasonable price to protect their businesses and assets.

Democrats had to prevent a V-shaped recovery from the Covid farce. With a robust economy, it was looking like PDT would get a large portion of the black vote. Can't have that so Soros sent in his Antifa shock troops to destroy their infrastructure.

I remember seeing burned out blocks in St. Louis four years after the riots when we were first going west to backpack the Wind River Range in Wyoming.
These fools destroy their own areas, and then whine that "there isn't good shopping in my neighborhood".
Yeah, you guys shoplift, rob the register and then burn it down. I wonder why nobody want's to do business in that part of town?

You would have to be braindead or a democrat politician, sorry I repeated myself, to ever consider opening a business in any of these large cities run by democrats. Many lost businesses from the lockdown. Many more from the rioting. If they do manage to stay solvent they will be hit with higher insurance premiums and taxes to repair the damage caused by the riots. That should knock most of the rest of the businesses out. Then there will be much moaning and gnashing of teeth because the few that remain will have to charge extremely high prices just to scrape by. This will be called racist and putting profit before people. Inviting the same behavior that destroyed the businesses in the first place. A vicious cycle that repeats over and over again. The leadership of these communities seek and retain power through causing resentment and hatred. No upside for anyone unfortunate enough to have to live there.

On a fishing trip to Canada, we drove through Detroit not long after the '67 riots. It was late and the streets looked like Dresden after the allied bombing. I forget now why we took that route into Windsor but even at 2;00 am there were people hanging about on the streets. Spooky. Needless to say, we never went that way again. Since then Detroit has continued to bleed population. It's now nothing more than a failed American city. Tragic, actually, and I don't ever see it returning to anything like it once was.

When we lived in MN back in the '90s people were warning it was on the same path as Detroit and St Louis. Liberals or course clucked their tongues and crowed about 'diversity', Minnesota 'nice', and progressive policies despite the emerging 'Murderapolis' underclass. Congratulations - you are now just a colder and slightly snowier Detroit.

People are remarkably insistent at repeating foolish actions that have failed in the past. RIots destroy communities and rarely yield any of the desired results.
It's time to shut these people down HARD!

After the race riots of the 1960s, many commercial insurance policies specifically excluded damage caused by riots and civil commotion.

For the rioters, foresight is not their thang, learning from history is not their thang, criminiality and welfare forever are their thang.
Please don't whine to me about food deserts or any of that hogwash.

Portland, Oregon has allowed Antifah run amok for quite sometime. Portland has also been refusing to back law enforcement. Sheriffs in some counties have stated they will not allow their Deputies to respond to anything but life threatening crimes in Portland. Portland has substantial vacancies among police ranks. They didn't sign up to stand around and which crime, so they leave. Quite literally thousands have applied and by the time the vetting process is done Portland is left with a handful of candidates. Portland has had to lower its standards to try and recruit police. This will likely result in more Portland police with the wrong temperament. Honestly, why any decent cop candidate would join a big city Democrat run department eludes me. I suspect this will be a problem. A new sort of death spiral for Democrat run big cities.

#16, it’s the human factor. Hurricanes and tornados are part of nature and hit randomly, rarely in the same place twice. What is happening in these cities is targeted intentional destruction by deviant evil humans. Not only CAN it strike in the same place twice, it’s almost guaranteed that it WILL happen again. Not to mention that the humans in these areas aren’t inclined to invest sweat, labor and money into re-building their neighborhoods.

I believe it will rebuild. Maybe not exactly the way it was, but it will come back. Target said they hope to open their store by the end of the year. Other businesses had some insurance. But others are gone for good. Frankly you can't compare Detroit to Minneapolis. Two different cities and different times.

The smaller ones are bankrupt.
Look at Detroit,it hasn't come back since 68 riots.
