Watching the Minneapolis Police Department abandon its precinct to the torch and crowbar-wielding peaceful protesters in that Democrat-run state and city, my first thought was that I should disarm. After all, I have been reliably informed by our smart and competent elite betters that I don’t need firearms because the police will protect me, and I am sure that even though they can’t defend their own police station they will absolutely defend me, my family, and our pet unicorn Chet.
Confusingly, I have also been reliably informed that the police are evil monsters of racism and badness and that they should be the only ones with guns

The police wont defend their own precinct in Minneapolis. They abandonded it to the rioters. In Baltimore, the police were pulled back to allow the "protesters" time to get it out of their system by rioting and looting.
The point is, when the mob runs riot, an unarmed citizenry is left defensless. When you have seconds, the police are days away.

So, obviously the MN Police Dept had a "Stand Down" order or they wouldn't have fled their own building. They had the Fire Power to defend that Precinct, but didn't use it. Why? Had to be because that Mealy Mouthed Mayor instructed them not to fire on anyone! Big Mistake! They just showed the World they are no longer in charge, the Thugs are running the City!

I think I'll go out and buy enough guns and ammo to withstand a siege. Democrats protect us? They are the ones paying the mobs to attack us!!

You missed the point completely. It is not a matter of the police not being there to protect us. Let’s place the blame where it really lies. Lawyers!!! It is lawyers who, over the years have gutted our 2nd amendment to the point that it’s nothing more than empty words. People go to jail every day for merely brandishing a weapon to defend themselves. The police do nothing because they know that if they fire a gun they will be punished and at the very least, lose their job. Lawyers have put the fear of God into every cop because they know they will be sued into poverty. It is lawyers who have taken away our right to defend ourselves and businesses for fear of being sued Into oblivion. If citizens and police were able to take down some of these looting thugs with real bullets instead of “rubber” bullets, this rioting and looting would stop in a heartbeat. Lawyers are a pox on our society and most of our politicians are lawyers.

There is absolutely no way Americans will give up their Second Amendment rights after the democrat debacle in cities across the nation. The ineptness of the democrats is criminal. They are unfit to govern. Unwilling to uphold law and order, incapable of leadership and so eager to squander the property of citizens on "political correctness" .Democrat's make the phrase "protect and serve" a gigantic joke at the expense of the people and responsible capable law enforcement.

Actually I'm thankful. There simply couldn't be a better demo of not only why ordinary citizens should have a right to own guns, but also to own AR-15s and large capacity magazines. When 9-1-1 won't even pick up, and cops are running away scared abandoning their precincts, how else are you going to protect your family from a crazed mob?

It isn't just Minneapolis. Name one Democrat-controlled city whose police force wasn't ordered to "stand down" during recent Antifa rioting and destruction.

#8, add Charleston, SC to the list. The police didn’t stand down but the demonrat mayor announced at the outset that there would be no arrests. King Street, our version of NYC’s 5th Avenue or Chicago’s Michigan Ave, was trashed on Saturday night. Give them a millimeter and they will destroy everything in sight.

Schlichter made one point that is buried in the column—this is Democrat failure. If the police felt that the city leadership had their backs, they would react differently to these attacks. What you don’t want however, are sadistic jerks like Dexter Chauvin in the police force. But when police are ordered by their mayors to stand down in the face of violence, what do you expect the police to do, starting with Baltimore and Charlottesville?

Last paragraph says it all.
fta: "Gun control began with Democrats trying to control black Americans. Gun control today is Democrats trying to control all Americans. And that’s not going to happen. Buy guns and ammunition, because there can be no truly free people that is not also an armed people."
The illusion of police protection died for a great many people this weekend. You are indeed on your own. Thank our Founding Fathers we have the right to keep and bear arms.

The other thing every citizen should remember, but is no longer taught in public schools, is that we have a natural, God given right to keep and bear arms for the defense of ourselves our families, neighbors, state and Republic. The 2nd amendment in the constitution doesn't grant that right, it is there to prohibit the government at all levels (due to the 14th amendment) from infringing (interfering) in any little way with that right.
Period.
Citizens at the time the constitution was written owned state-of-the-art rifles, cannon and state-of-the-art military ships, among other implements.. Keep that in mind the next time someone starts quibbling about how citizens shouldn't have selective fire rifles, when such existed (but were prohibitively expensive for the common man) prior to the constitution being written, if you know your history of arms.

If you don't have an AR type rifle, or some sort of a rough equivalent like a Mini-14, or M1A, or similar, you really need to think about it.
These are exactly why you need to have the capability to defend yourself from more than a burglar, where a 6 shot .38 revolver is usually perfectly adequate. When a mob comes howling up, that .38 is going to seem pretty puny - although still far, far better than a 9 iron or baseball bat.

The reason there have been no riots in my town are two fold; no one talks back to cops ( we do as they ask) and we are all heavily armed so no outsiders can cause disruption.
