Law enforcement is a vital response to any riotous uprising. Indeed, I believe the failure to enforce the laws without apology from the start of the upheaval last week has fueled its ferocity. It would be naïve to claim that much of the violence, which is being incited and coordinated by radical groups, might not have happened anyway — these groups are always on a hair-trigger, pouncing on any opportunity to make mayhem. But how badly things get out of control has a lot to do with the resolve of state and federal law enforcement. The laws do not enforce themselves.
Progressive dogma notwithstanding, rioting spearheaded by radicals

Mayors & governors have to do their part too. How many democrats have you heard condemning the riots? Arrests should have been made the 1st day this started. The governor of Minnesota said no one will be arrested. All politicians should be stating their opinions so we know where they stand.

Unfortunately, presidents CANNOT rush in to restore order without a lot of due process and usually only "on request of the state government". Domestic terrorism can be a reason for a president to take action but IS this domestic terrorism. So far there is no terrorist group leading the actions. Supposedly, many of the marches are peaceful with the obvious exceptions. Are such exceptions the work of terrorists or passions out of control. We don't know.
The article exhorts that the president and GOVERNORS take action. The BIG problem is, the governors are NOT requesting federal help and in a volatile situation and without clear evidence of terrorism, the president must be very careful not to further inflame the situation. I have seem numerous police officers working with and in solidarity with protesters trying to keep things peaceful. THAT is the path forward unless subversive elements can be identified.

No matter what Trump does, the media will claim it is wrong.

I'm not so sure. When your enemy is destroying his own homes, killing his own soldiers and leveling his own cesspool cities, wouldn't it be better to just let him? Then absolutely refuse to pay for rebuilding.

Here's the current destination.
Force Trump to act, as he should, about these riots by paid democrat thugs.
Then, instigating democrat operatives will, behind the scenes, wind up the mobs to attack the peace keepers.(police or national guard, though the latter is preferred).
Finally, in the ruckus, people are sure to be killed and the media will blame Trump. It doesn't matter what Trump does, the media WILL blame Trump.

President Trump must get off of Twitter and take control of the nation! He will be damaged beyond repair if he doesn’t start acting like the leader of the free world...not a teenager sitting in the basement sending “tweets”? I have been a huge Trump guy...but he’s losing me right now as our nation burns! Do something Mr. President! Tweeting...does NOTHING!

PDT should do nothing unless specifically ask for assistance. Let the liberal mayors and governors, as well as those who elected them, stew in these juices.

These are mostly local crimes, as far as we know. Those people looting stores are not Antifa, any more than the looters after every inner city riot were. An aggressive federal response is likely to end in disaster. Anyone remember Kent State and its aftermath?

So now I'm going to be waiting for the dhimocrat mayors and governors to be coming, hat in hand to DC, to get their cities rebuilt. It's for the people, dontcha' know.

Exactly, #9. And the response should be, “No. You allowed this to happen in your city/state. You did nothing to stop it. It’s up to YOU to rebuild it yourselves with your own money and your own sweat and labor.”

This is an open invitation for insiders to do bad things and Trump gets the blame. The governors have the power to shut this stuff down. The Dems will be slow to act and for some, they hope to transfer their lack of action to the president. They are that desperate.

Here is the best solution. One warning shot, if it doesn't work, then deadly force. NO RIOT, and no innocents or police killed or injured. Why should the victims suffer at the hands of terrorists ?
because of lenient policing mandated by political authorities.

Not just the power. The POTUS has the RESPONSIBILITY of maintaining order and legal, constitutional rule throughout the United States. Abandoning a police precinct to the tender mercies of a crowbar wielding mob is as potent an indication of breakdown of state authority as can be. We don't have to advice trump and Barr what to do. They know how.

The only action POTUS should take is to protect our national monuments (WH, Supreme Court, Capital Building etc) in D.C. if the D.C. police won't. Those are Federal buildings and he can call out the Army to protect them.
Having said this, I predict this s*** show will end like Kent State - some "innocents" will get killed and we'll be treated to the usual stories about how they were just walking to the store, going to get a prescription for "Momma," baby milk for their baby etc. This isn't my first rodeo and I'm not fooled.

Be careful, Andrew. If the President has to step in, you and your media pals will not like the methods or the results. Democrat leadership is failing and Republican-run cities and states are doing fine. The logical step for the President would be to declare martial law in their failed cities and begin treating looters like the violent criminals that they are. Law enforcement would then become the Guard or active military.
The National Guard at Kent State in 1970 was sent there to protect campus property and the first shot was fired by some idiot FBI informant who panicked in the middle of a mob of students. The troops returned fire and they were lucky that only four students were killed.
I like #4 solution, let them live in the mess they have created and force them to walk miles to buy booze and cigarettes.

No, Trump must not act. This is the job of the Governors and Mayors. They must put on their pants and act. It is their jobs. If Trump does it, Trump will become the enemy, which is what the Democrats want. Trump has nothing to do with this. It all belongs to the Democrats. The Democrats own this looting and rioting. The Democrats organized and paid for it. The Democrat Mayors and Governors have stood down and refused to enforce the laws. It is a Democrat problem. Trump has enough problems, and should not take up the bait to get involved in this mess.

Sorry, I've NEVER liked or trusted Andy. He's a NR never Trumper "reformed"? He loves the swamp, it's his home, all his friends live there. He protested at the top of his lungs when it was first suggested that there might be some problems in the Intelligence Community.

McCarthy seems to want to ignore laws, regulations, procedures and the constitution. Yes, Trump has the power. But as every good teacher and leader knows, one has to go through all the legal resources first, which is what the Governors and Mayors are. Reading on Lucianne last night, it sounds like Trump and Barr are now armed and prepared for legal battle. They will step into the fray, but at the proper time Andrew.
Your way would have Trump being called a megalomaniac tyrant, his way takes it so beyond obvious that even the Leftists will beg for him to act. And he will. But now he has shown beyond all doubt to everyone, that democrat policies are enabling this, and are also ending the reasons for the social distancing and lockdowns as well. See how that works Andrew?

Let the citizens see what their mayors and governors will do to protect them. And let them vote accordingly this election season.
At this point, I think Trump should stay back, offer support to the governors but give them enough rope to hang themselves. If they ASK for help - sure, but not before that.

The State's have primary responsibility for any "police power" enforcement operations. The Left would love to stir up an uncontrollable hornet's nest of violence and then off-load the mess to our President. Presto, it's all Trump's fault.
Do your job, Dem governors. Protect your citizens.
