As the riots swept the nation over the weekend, the terrorists set their sights on lil’ ol’ Salem, Oregon, about an hour south of Portland. Upon hearing news of the protests, Glamour Salon owner Lindsey Graham put out a call for armed citizens to come and defend her shop and other stores in the area. You may recall that Graham has been the target of state fines and threats after she dared to open her salon in defiance of the governor’s Covid orders.

A Federal Protective Services officer was shot and killed Friday night, the FBI reports, as protests and riots took place in the city of Oakland. In a statement, the FBI stated the shooting occurred at the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building at 1301 Clay St. Authorities say a vehicle pulled up to the building and an assailant inside the vehicle began shooting at security personnel stationed outside. I don’t know how many people today still read Eric Hoffer’s The True Believer, but if you are puzzled by the breakout this week of rioting and mayhem (at last count in 17 cities) you’d do well to make yourself familiar with this incredibly well-reasoned text on mass movements. Why are the streets regularly filled with mostly pasty looking stoners pelting stones and bricks, destroying businesses in the poorest urban areas and of even attacking law enforcement on thinnest of pretexts? A wildly popular swing state senator who had boosted her national profile with a respectable presidential run, Klobuchar clearly could cement Biden's popularity with suburban women. Those women are the key cohort who sat out in 2016, handing the White House to President Trump but crucially delivering Democrats the House of Representatives just two years later. Klobuchar fulfilled the first rule of running mates — first, do no harm — and provided an obvious advantage with the Electoral College map.
