Here is the city’s message in full, issued May 28, after several days/nights of rioting. Across the bay in Emeryville, a popular shopping destination, looters appeared to be running rampant, smashing windows and stealing items from popular stores

Rudi Hoenson ‘changed lives. The moment you met him, you knew you were going to remember him for the rest of your life.’ Rudi Hoenson had every reason to be an angry man. Taken prisoner as an 18-year-old Dutch soldier in what is now Indonesia, he spent the last 3 1/2 years of the Second World War in slave labour in Japan.
