Joe Biden’s State of the Union lingered far too long, but the general theme was made clear within the first 30 minutes: This is a man with no accomplishments and he knows it.
Honestly, even as a conservative, I expected more. Biden’s speech was badly written, devoid of memorable moments, and came across as a rehash of everything he’s been saying for the last two years. The applause lines felt painfully manufactured, and the president often stumbled over his words — and that’s when he wasn’t coughing.
The first part of the speech focused on Ukraine in an obvious attempt to soften the audience with a topic most agree on.

A Black female journalist with The Washington Post is speaking out after the publication's director of video misidentified her as Breonna Taylor—the Black woman whose 2020 police killing in Louisville, Kentucky sparked numerous protests and whose name became a rallying cry during the Black Lives Matter demonstrations.
In a Twitter thread posted late Sunday, Micah Gelman, who heads the Post's video team, accidentally named video technician Breanna Muir as Breonna Taylor while thanking his team for their coverage of the war in Ukraine.
In Muir's first post to LinkedIn, which she called "disheartening" given the circumstances, she said she felt the need to stand up for herself after being misidentified.

President Joe Biden used his State of the Union address on Tuesday night to call on Congress to “secure the border,” after his administration allowed roughly 1.5 million migrants to pour across the southern border in his first months in office. In remarks as prepared for delivery, Biden planned to say: And if we are to advance liberty and justice, we need to secure the Border and fix the immigration system. We can do both. At our border, we’ve installed new technology like cutting-edge scanners to better detect drug smuggling. We’ve set up joint patrols with Mexico and Guatemala to catch more human traffickers.

A black woman has accused Delta Air Lines of discrimination after a flight attendant allegedly asked her to move to the back of a plane to make room for two white women.
Camille Henderson said she was sitting near row 15 window during a Feb. 3 flight from Atlanta to San Francisco when the women, who were sitting in the aisle and middle seats in the row next to her, said they had first-class tickets, ABC 7 reported. “They felt like they were ticketed first-class seats, but they couldn’t provide the tickets,” Henderson told the news outlet, adding that the women continued the complaints for over an hour.

We’re living in transformative times. The country has moved away from Christian principles, and that migration includes institutions of faith.
Of course, there are differing iterations of Christianity; but the most traditional one is being fervently phased out.
Case in point: On Valentine’s Day, Gordon College welcomed speaker Marvin Daniels.
Marvin is the executive director of community development organization The Hope Center.
Per its official website, the Missouri nonprofit trains “high school, middle school, and elementary students from over 15 campuses across the city in servant leadership and character development.”

Sen. Joe Manchin III crossed the aisle during Tuesday’s State of the Union address.
Mr. Manchin, a moderate West Virginia Democrat, opted to sit on the side of the House chamber traditionally reserved for Republicans rather than with members of his party.
Mr. Manchin was seen sitting next to GOP Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah and Roger Wicker of Mississippi. He was the only Senate Democrat to sit with Republicans. Seating in the chamber was limited because of ongoing coronavirus restrictions.
Mr. Manchin’s office did not respond to requests for comment. The senator’s show of bipartisanship came amid tensions with his party and President Biden over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

It’s a pattern of bias: Whenever Democrats find themselves on the defensive politically over a divisive issue (transgender rights, mask mandates, school shutdowns, even inflation), the New York Times can be relied upon to ride to the party’s defense by flipping the issue, making the Republican Party seem like the unfair aggressor for pointing out and criticizing the controversial Democratic stance. Political reporter Jonathan Weisman complained about the GOP “weaponizing” in an analysis of campaign issues and Democratic prospects for the November elections Friday: “Vulnerable Democrats, Seeking Distance From the Left, Offer a Midterm Agenda.”
At least he applied the word “divisive” to the left:

Remarks of President Joe Biden – State of the Union Address
Madam Speaker, Madam Vice President, our First Lady and Second Gentleman. Members of Congress and the Cabinet. Justices of the Supreme Court. My fellow Americans.
Last year COVID-19 kept us apart. This year we are finally together again.
Tonight, we meet as Democrats Republicans and Independents. But most importantly as Americans.
With a duty to one another to the American people to the Constitution.
And with an unwavering resolve that freedom will always triumph over tyranny.
Six days ago, Russia’s Vladimir Putin sought shake the foundations of the free world thinking he could make it bend to his menacing ways. But he badly miscalculated.
He thought he could roll into Ukraine

Well, at least that’s what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Tuesday.
“The polls show Americans deeply pessimistic about the economy,” Mitchell pointed out. “Inflation is only going to rise with what’s happening on the energy front with this war. What do you attribute to that? … The decline in the President’s polls—even on COVID, on how he’s handled it—what can you do to turn this around?”
“Well, I think tonight’s gonna be very important,” Pelosi began, in reference to Biden’s forthcoming State of the Union Dumpster Fire.

The alleged plot, which prosecutors have said was spawned in anger over Whitmer's COVID-19 policies and mandates at the start of the pandemic, was foiled in October of 2020.

Russia learned some hard lessons when it invaded Finland in November 1939. Today in Ukraine, it’s become clear that those lessons didn’t “stick,” at least not among Russia’s decision-makers.
In the winter of 1939, Russia – having just conquered half of Poland after Germany had already knocked that country out of the war – decided that war was good business. So they invaded Finland. In Poland, the Soviets re-took land that had been under the control of Czarist Russia for two centuries before it was divided away from Russia at the treaty of Versailles. Repeating that strategy, on November 30, 1939, Russia attacked Finland

If the election were held today, Democrats would not only lose control of the House, but suffer massive losses in their ranks.
That's the conclusion that should be drawn from new ABC News/Washington Post polling that shows a generic Republican candidate leading a generic Democratic one by a 49% to 42% margin among registered voters nationally. (That gap expands to 13 points when you limit the sample to registered voters who say they are "certain" to vote.)
That's known as the generic ballot test. For decades, it's been a reliable weathervane as to which way -- and how hard -- the partisan winds are blowing.

He is struggling for food and income and has moved from the Logar province into Kabul—close to the airport where, he hopes, he will one day be spirited out by the Americans. He has heard nothing from the State Department. “I am not safe here,” he told The Washington Times by email. “Did I make mistake to work with U.S. Army as interpreter?” “Why [is the U.S.] punishing me like this?” said Will, whose real name is being withheld for his safety.

A Seattle bakery owner has slammed city leaders after she says she was forced to close her shop due to the record-breaking high levels of crime. Piroshky Piroshky bakery owner Olga Sagan, 38, made the tough decision after she constantly found the entrance blocked with drug users who refused to move—and she says the Seattle Police Department did nothing to help. The last straw was when a man was shot dead just round the corner from the city center bakery. 'How many shootings do we need to have to realize this is an active emergency in downtown Seattle?' Sagan told The Seattle Times.

Cybersecurity company Symantec’s researchers discovered a China-linked cyber espionage tool and worked with the Biden administration to sound the alarm to targets. Symantec said the Daxin malware was the most advanced it has seen used by a China-linked cyberattacker. The researchers think it was deployed in a longstanding espionage campaign against governments and critical infrastructure targets in the telecommunications, transportation and manufacturing sectors.
“There is strong evidence to suggest the malware, Backdoor.Daxin, which allows the attacker to perform various communications and data-gathering operations on the infected computer, has been used as recently as November 2021 by attackers linked to China,” Symantec’s researchers said Monday

On the 10th anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin, the New York Times has published a video about this tragedy that slanders individuals, sows racial resentments, and impugns the people of the United States en masse. In addition to employing a series of highly deceptive half-truths, the video edits a police recording to make it seem like Martin was murdered and that his killer got away with it because Martin was black. The events underlying the video unfolded on a rainy night in Sanford, Florida in February 2012 when Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old black teen, was shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer named George Zimmerman.

A watchdog group is calling for an ethics investigation into Sen. Richard Blumenthal's (D., Conn.) sale of shares of Robinhood, the brokerage company at the center of the "meme stock" speculation frenzy last year.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) on Monday requested that the Senate Select Committee on Ethics probe Blumenthal's sale of Robinhood shares worth up to $2.5 million. Blumenthal, one of the wealthiest members of the Senate, failed to disclose the trades within the 45 days required under federal law, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

Videos from California showing teens looting a Walgreens and a shoplifter casually strolling out of a Ross clothing store with multiple pairs of shoes have surfaced as retail stores battle an increase in shameless shoplifting. In footage from Walgreens that surfaced Sunday, three people pry open a locked shelf and fill garbage bags with merchandise. Customers and staff watch helplessly as the store is ransacked. At one point, a new customer walks in with a cart and quickly notices the brazen theft happening to his left. In video from the discount retailer Ross, a woman walks out of the store with multiple pairs of shoes hanging from her hands.

Florida Rep. Ted Deutch says he won't seek reelection in November, making him the 31 House Democrat to drop out this year.
Deutch, the chairman of the House Ethics Committee, has served in Congress since 2010. He will join the American Jewish Committee, according to CBS News.
Last year, Deutch was one of the members of his party to publicly criticize fellow House Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib for anti-Semitic comments the Michigan congresswoman and Muslim made during a chamber debate regarding Israeli defense funds.

More than 140 million Americans have had the coronavirus, according to estimates from blood tests that reveal antibodies from infection — about double the rate regularly cited by national case counts. The estimates, compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, show that about 43 percent of the country has been infected by the virus. The study shows that the majority of children have also been infected. The data goes through late January, when the omicron variant of the coronavirus was causing more than 500,000 cases a day, meaning the number of Americans now infected is considerably higher

Thus spake Winston Churchill in 1940 after the Nazi’s overran France:
“I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin. Upon this battle depends the survival of Christian civilization. Upon it depends our own British life, and the long continuity of our institutions and our Empire. The whole fury and might of the enemy must very soon be turned on us. Hitler knows that he will have to break us in this Island or lose the war. If we can stand up to him, all Europe may be free and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands.

However things might look to a certain apocalyptic caste of mind, Canada did not recently take major steps toward tyranny. The measures enacted under the rubric of the Emergencies Act of 1988—including censorship, bank freezes, asset seizures, arrests for unspecified crimes, pre-trial detention, denial of bail for peaceful protesters—these things might appear tyrannical to a paranoid. But remember the honking!

Ukraine is a manageable localized problem in a distant part of the world and Russia is going to manage it. The American crisis of confidence in its own operating system is something else.
Did “Joe Biden’s” handlers actually want to start World War Three? They are the same posse who contrived the Russian Collusion hysteria of 2016-19, then launched Covid-19 — and the even more deadly mass “vaccination” response to it — and have now successfully goaded Russia into cleaning up the international hub of grift and mischief known as Ukraine. One thing established for sure as fact: the “Joe Biden” family received plenty of cash off that grift wagon,

Russian forces stepped up their offensive early Tuesday with bombs raining down on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, as a 40-mile-long convoy of tanks and other military equipment forges forward towards Kyiv.
“Daylight rises again over Ukraine. Kyiv still stands,” Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said around 6:30 a.m. local time Tuesday morning, after another night of heavy bombings.
“The Warriors continue to stand for their country and freedom. Glory to Ukraine.”
By 7 a.m. air sirens sounded again.
Zelensky said he believes Russia is trying to force Ukraine into surrendering by ramping up the shelling across Ukraine following a peace summit

The retreat of the United States and her allies before the Chinese-backed Taliban in Afghanistan and the failure of the West’s feeble attempts at diplomacy in the face of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine share a sinister aetiology that has attracted remarkably little attention. A relentless, targeted campaign of desinformatsiya – systematic reputational destruction or “unpersoning” by Communist front groups posing as environmental campaign entities but in reality fostered, funded and too often founded by Moscow and Beijing – has all but silenced thousands of skeptical climate researchers who had formerly been able to debate the climate

President Joe Biden’s nominee to replace Justice Stephen Breyer on the Supreme Court, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, apparently refuses to use the term “illegal alien” in her court opinions, opting instead for “noncitizen.”
In a handful of immigration-related cases that Jackson has ruled on U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, she has made a note to employ the term “noncitizen” or “undocumented non-citizens” rather than the terms “alien” or “illegal aliens” that are regularly used in court and in federal statutes.

After seeing what a real leader looks like -- in Ukraine -- we return to our regularly scheduled clown show back in Washington.
Which brings us to Kamala Harris, who was introduced by Jill Biden as "President Harris" (a joke, of course) ahead of President Biden's State of the Union address Tuesday.
She came out to speak, and well, see if you disagree with the guy who created this tweet: (snip) She does sound like a parody of herself -- flip, sarcastic, drunk-ish, gulping, self-satisfied, signature giggles thrown in -- and not at all serious.

When I think of former Attorney General William Barr, I think of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Part of him is an upstanding figure who respected constitutional limitations; another part of him is a loyal swamp creature who desperately wanted to serve a milquetoast George W. Bush (or George H.W. Bush) only to find himself working for a vigorous, aggressive Donald J. Trump. Both those aspects of his personality apparently come through loud and clear in a new 600-page book (and doorstop) in which he narrates his stints as U.S. Attorney General under both George Bush, Sr., and Donald Trump.

Word has come tumbling out that Russian Vladimir Putin is descending into madness. Is it too much to ask true Russian patriots to rid the world of this tyrant before he does further damage?
Putin apparently thought Ukraine would be a summer’s evening stroll, that within days, if not hours, his forces could overrun the country with minimal resistance.
Instead, his campaign met stiff and heroic resistance from the Ukrainians and President Volodymyr Zelensky, who inspired a nation and a world watching when he declined the Biden White House’s offer to pull him out. He didn’t need a ride, he said, he needs ammunition.

For thousands of years, going back to the Bible, women have wept and grieved and pleaded to God over their miscarriages. Indeed, it took all these millennia for modern-day pharmaceutical companies to develop solutions to this ongoing nightmare.
In the 1940s, they were happy to offer doctors the ability to prescribe diethylstilbestrol (DES) to prevent miscarriage. “You can tell them you would give it to your wife,” the marketing mavens from Big Pharma suggested to physicians.

The world has been fundamentally changed by Ukraine. This is true, although nearly all Western coverage has been scaredy-cat and daft.
Russia expected to waltz in to Ukraine. It didn‘t. (snip) What this means is that the myth of Russian might has been broken for all time. (snip) Second, the myth that Russia poses no threat, that it is a normal country if a bit misunderstood, that it is anything other than a primitive dictatorship, has been exploded. (snip) Thirdly, it is certain now that Ukraine at some point will join the European Union and NATO. Perhaps not soon

In recent years, words and ideas used to describe discrimination against members of historically marginalized and disadvantaged groups have seemingly exploded into the lexicon: systemic inequality, privilege, white supremacy, the patriarchy, etc.
In some senses, the apparent novelty is deceiving: most of these concepts have been around for decades in academic and activist circles.(Snip)For instance, given that the shifts became increasingly pronounced in 2012, one might assume they are straightforwardly a response to the killing of Trayvon Martin. However, it is harder to explain why we see similar changes in discussion and public attitudes with respect to sexism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia and antisemitism–all at roughly the same time

A couple of years after former President Trump made significant gains in often Hispanic-majority Democrat counties along the United States-Mexico border in Texas, a wave of Democrats in one particular community are switching parties to join the GOP.
In Terrell County, Texas, the New York Times reports that multiple elected officials are opting to run — for the first time — as Republicans rather than as Democrats in a “quiet political upheaval” across U.S. border towns, fueled mostly by rising crime and constant waves of illegal immigration. The Times reports:
First, the Democratic county judge said she would seek another term — as a Republican. Then the county clerk and the treasurer decided that they too would abandon
