“Seven million women died last year because they didn’t have access to abortion.” This was the absurd claim by a pro-abortion activist testifying in opposition to Nebraska’s Legislative Bill (LB) 933, the Human Life Protection Act. (snip) I was conceived in rape but adopted in love. I grew up in a diverse family of fifteen, where ten of us were adopted. Many of us were rescued from the violence of abortion. We’re white, black, mixed, Native American, Vietnamese, abled and disabled. Despite the horrific circumstances most of us came from, none of us would’ve been better off dead. We were all better off loved.

China asked Vladimir Putin to delay any invasion of Ukraine until after the Winter Olympics in Beijing, according to a Western intelligence report.
It suggests officials in China may have had some indication of Mr Putin's plans before he went ahead. Beijing denied the assertion as "baseless speculation" and an "attempt to smear China".
A Western official told the New York Times the report did not make clear if it was Putin and Xi Jinping who discussed the matter, or some of their officials.
The Olympic closing ceremony took place on Feb 20. On the following day Putin recognised two breakaway areas in Ukraine and sent troops in to help separatists.

Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the season of Lent for Catholics around the world. On this day, priests smear ashes on millions of foreheads while uttering some version of the words, "Remember, man, thou art dust, and to dust thou shalt return." Perhaps this year the ritual should be reversed, with the faithful lining up to administer ashes to priests and bishops until their white surplices are covered with an unmistakable reminder of their own mortality.

A Black female journalist with The Washington Post is speaking out after the publication's director of video misidentified her as Breonna Taylor—the Black woman whose 2020 police killing in Louisville, Kentucky sparked numerous protests and whose name became a rallying cry during the Black Lives Matter demonstrations.
In a Twitter thread posted late Sunday, Micah Gelman, who heads the Post's video team, accidentally named video technician Breanna Muir as Breonna Taylor while thanking his team for their coverage of the war in Ukraine.
In Muir's first post to LinkedIn, which she called "disheartening" given the circumstances, she said she felt the need to stand up for herself after being misidentified.

A black woman has accused Delta Air Lines of discrimination after a flight attendant allegedly asked her to move to the back of a plane to make room for two white women.
Camille Henderson said she was sitting near row 15 window during a Feb. 3 flight from Atlanta to San Francisco when the women, who were sitting in the aisle and middle seats in the row next to her, said they had first-class tickets, ABC 7 reported. “They felt like they were ticketed first-class seats, but they couldn’t provide the tickets,” Henderson told the news outlet, adding that the women continued the complaints for over an hour.

We’re living in transformative times. The country has moved away from Christian principles, and that migration includes institutions of faith.
Of course, there are differing iterations of Christianity; but the most traditional one is being fervently phased out.
Case in point: On Valentine’s Day, Gordon College welcomed speaker Marvin Daniels.
Marvin is the executive director of community development organization The Hope Center.
Per its official website, the Missouri nonprofit trains “high school, middle school, and elementary students from over 15 campuses across the city in servant leadership and character development.”

How were your elementary school teachers? If any were Satanists, you were ahead of your time.
Last month, REAL News Michigan reported that a Fort Wayne, Indiana public school instructor owned a local Satanic temple.
Per the outlet:
According to Indiana Secretary of State records, Jessica Klikas is the owner of The Satanic Temple Indiana, also known as Porta Infernum (Latin for Gate of Hell) LLC. Klikas is currently a fourth grade teacher at Haverhill Elementary School, according to a staff directory for the Southwest Allen County Schools’ district website.

Nearly every Senate Democrat voted in favor of legislation Monday which would have radically expanded abortion rights beyond even the Supreme Court’s ruling in Roe v. Wade.
The Women’s Health Protection Act would have forced every state to allow abortions for any reason until at least the point of viability, generally defined at around six months into a pregnancy, and banned most restrictions on abortion up to the point of birth.
Every Republican voted against the bill, and every Democrat except Sen. Joe Manchin voted in favor, NBC News reported.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has taken center stage in regard to world events over the last week. Naturally, that means a lot of really terrible takes from way-too online individuals have gone forth. RedState covered a few of these recently (see here and here). But while it’s easy to dunk on blue-check Twitter users who obviously don’t know anything, Alexander Vindman’s nonsense stands in a category of its own.

If you’re stressed over the state of masculinity, here’s good news: A man-savvy organization is on the case.
“A Call to Men” markets itself as preparing “the next generation of manhood.” In order to fix the future, the group is hosting an art project for high schoolers and college students.
Introducing the “2022 Dismantle Patriarchy” contest.
An official webpage describes the endeavor thusly:
The Dismantle Patriarchy Contest invites young people to use visual art, music, essay, story, poetry, video or photography to envision how they might change the larger societal system of patriarchy and create an accepting society.

One of the questions asked over and over about Putin’s callous invasion of an inoffensive neighbor, an invasion that is mysteriously rationalized by an amazing number of people on the right who were apoplectic over Trudeau’s brutality with the Freedom Convoy, is what was his objective. It’s obvious that he was torqued about Ukraine flirting with EU and NATO membership, but if he wanted regime change, a few million dollars, an AstroTurfed mob, and a GRU or Spetsznaz hit squad could have accomplished that (look at how easily Putin installed his previous stooge, Yanukovych) with much less melodrama and loss of life.

One of the oddest commentaries about the Russian invasion of Ukraine is the boilerplate reaction that “borders can’t change in modern Europe” or “this does not happen in the 21st century.”
But why in the world should the 21st century be exempt from the pathologies of the past 20 centuries? Are we smarter than the Romans? More innovative than Florentines? Do we have more savvy leaders than Lincoln or Churchill? Are they more mellifluous than Demosthenes? Does anyone now remember that some 130,000 were slaughtered just 30 years ago in the former Yugoslavia, as NATO planes bombed Belgrade and nuclear America and Russia almost squared off?
