At least 130 congregations have quietly walked away from the United Methodist Church in a schism over the denomination’s planned acceptance of same-sex marriage and homosexual clergy. The breakaway congregations are keeping their church property thanks to a “conscience clause” enacted by the group’s legislative assembly in 2019. The United Methodist Church General Conference, the church’s governing body, is expected this year to approve a separation plan that would create two denominations: one affirming bans on gay clergy and same-sex marriage, and one permitting homosexual clergy and same-sex marriage. That move has been postponed because of the pandemic and might be delayed again.

Brian Laundrie’s full autopsy and forensic reports (pdf) were released by the District Twelve Medical Examiner Monday in Florida on Monday, providing more details about the circumstances around his death.
The report included details about the 23-year-old’s belongings, which were found in plain sight along a trail in the Carlton Reserve near North Port, Florida. The water line that was seen on nearby trees was evidence that approximately 3 feet of water previously kept Laundrie’s remains hidden from view from officials.

Michele Tafoya, a longtime NFL sideline reporter for NBC, on Monday announced that she will serve as co-chair of Kendall Qualls's gubernatorial bid in Minnesota.

Dog owners face £1,000 fines if they take pets for walks near roads or cycle paths with leads longer than three feet. From the end of March, people whose dog leads are too long face on-the-spot fines of £100 or prosecution. The policy from a Devon council does not apply in parks or on beaches. Dog owners should also use a fixed-type lead when they are out strolling. The move is a new extension of a public space protection order (PSPO) introduced by Teignbridge District Council in 2019. A startling number of New Yorkers have dropped dead in subway trains and stations this year—and accounts from police and transit workers suggest the bulk of them were homeless people who turned to mass transit for shelter. Mayor Muriel Bowser is revoking the vaccine requirement for indoor businesses in Washington, D.C., effective Tuesday, she announced on Monday.

As has been widely reported, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the latest inflation numbers last Thursday, and they were ugly. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 7.5 percent during the 12-month period ending in January, its largest one-year spike in 40 years. This dwarfs the inflation rate of 1.4 percent that President Biden and the Democratic Congress inherited in January of 2021. BLS also reported that real earnings decreased 1.7 percent from January 2021 to January 2022. All of this is directly attributable to the incompetent economic policies of the Biden administration and wild spending by congressional Democrats in the midst of a supply chain crisis.
