The Department of Justice asked a federal judge late Tuesday to temporarily block Texas’ new heartbeat abortion law. The department claimed in its filing that the state had passed the law, which allows private citizens to sue providers that perform abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, “to prevent women from exercising their constitutional rights.” “This relief is necessary to protect the constitutional rights of women in Texas and the sovereign interest of the United States,” the department said in its brief. The discussion that led to the quote in question happened via secret, unsanctioned calls between Milley and a top Chinese general. At one point, Milley is reported to have pledged to the Chinese that he would tip them off about any possible attack coming from the United States. I’ve been skeptical of the Biden administration’s official number of Americans still left in Afghanistan. They’ve said about 100-200 Americans were left behind (still a tragedy) but one U.S. official said that over 5,000 Americans were likely to end up stranded in the country by the time U.S. forces left. As of yesterday, they are saying there are about 100 Americans still there—which likely means nothing has changed since the withdrawal concluded on August 30. But Biden Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a stunning admission today. According to him, the “best estimates are that there’s several thousand [U.S.] green card holders in Afghanistan.” Several thousand green card holders?

Okay, I’m actually exaggerating slightly with that headline. The Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency didn’t say al Qaeda could rebuild within a year. And when the DIA Director says “rebuild” what he means, specifically, is that’s how soon they could have the ability to attack the United States here at home: The new timeline is not a drastic shift, but reflects the reality

The defeat of the American-backed government in Afghanistan has increased the danger that the al Qaeda terrorist group will launch another attack on the United States very quickly, the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency said Tuesday. The current assessment conservatively is one to two years for al Qaeda to build some capability to at least threaten the homeland,” said Army Lt. Gen. Scott Berrier. President Biden took to the airwaves last week to present himself as a hero in the fight against COVID-19. In a new high for political irony, his plan is to force employers to coerce their employees to take the vaccines developed under the Trump administration – the same vaccines he railed against as unsafe less than a year ago. Let’s take a step back. The reality of any viral pandemic is that it continues until the population acquires a sufficient level of herd immunity, whether naturally or through vaccination. Until that happens, the best the government can do is mitigate the consequences of the disease while developing a vaccine as quickly

Facebook has conducted internal studies that found Instagram is harmful to teen girls and exacerbates body image issues, anxiety and depression—even though the company’s executives have publicly extoled the mental-health benefits of social media, a new report says. Facebook for the past three years has been conducting studies into how its Instagram app affects its millions of young users, repeatedly finding that it’s toxic for many of them, especially teenage girls, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing internal documents. “Thirty-two percent of teen girls said that when they felt bad about their bodies, Instagram made them feel worse,” the researchers reportedly wrote in a March 2020 presentation.

The battle over the Democrat-led $3.5 trillion reconciliation budget bill is leading to renewed arguments over tax rates. Because everything that’s old is new again, that means lots of repetition about the rich “paying their fair share” as Joe Biden and his party seek to justify dropping more inflation on the heads of the middle-class. The current proposal would raise the corporate rate beyond that of China’s, which is the kind of thing a nation would do if they were purposely trying to drive businesses into the arms of a communist regime. A raise of the top marginal rate is on the table.
