The National Guard has been mobilized in Massachusetts to ferry kids to and from school amid a nationwide shortage of bus drivers exacerbated by COVID. Up to 250 members of the Guard will be activated to address the shortage, following a direct order from Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker to deploy the servicemen, as school and state officials across the country have been forced to deal with the dearth of drivers.(Snip) Baker said the federal government—not the state—would pick up the tab, but could not provide an estimate as to how much the assistance would cost.
Cases doesn’t equate into anything… it’s actually good that people have been exposed and aren’t contagious…

Worst job in the world. You have to put up with children at their worst and you have no authority to do anything but get yourself in trouble. No thanks.

Right on schedule, keeping people scared and at home so the military can assume civilian duties. This is the camel's head and neck into the tent so the NG can perform cops' duties when they're fired or walk away.
Now we really look like the third world press photographs.

Totally nuts. The fearmongering is the issue.

Since when can NG be used to drive school buses??? This is a disaster or national emergency. Isn't this an abuse of power by the governor???

This critical shortage is a government created disaster. Mask mandates, vaccine mandates, unbridled behavioral issues on buses, no support from school administration or the school boards, and terrible hours and pay. Yet, they are responsible for the safe transportation and lives of all of the children on the bus. Why do you think there is a shortage? One accusation from a kid, one injury, one anything wrong, and the bus driver's life can be ruined forever. Endless unemployment, government benefits and freebies, and other incentives to not work are also contributing to the shortages.

Due to the expected shortage of vaccinated, uncertificated hospital staff, maybe the National Guard also can take over bedpan duties, cooking, wheel chair pushing and latrine floor mopping in medical centers. Great for recruiting ads, huh?

#2, we were just discussing that. Most kids in public schools get "free" lunches, and often breakfast and dinner too, sometimes year-round, and that's atop the food stamp money their single mothers get (which is what qualifies the kids for free food to begin with). If there's a certain percent of students eligible, then the entire school gets free food on the pretext of not stigmatizing the takers. Of course, this massive transfer payment to Sysco or ARAMark or whatever giant foodservice vendors are out there receives full GOP support because it's good for business, and business is good indeed.

No mention of it, but I am sure there were those who refused to get the vaccine and were fired, or quit.

First the government shuts down practically everything, pays people to stay at home, and disrupts life on a massive scale hardly ever seen.
Now government tries to reopen the schools, and oops! People don't want to work. Who didn't see that coming?
Does government stop the benefits making people get off their rear ends and go back to work? Nope!. They call out the national guard, and disrupt their lives. How many of these people serve one weekend a month? They are disrupting the live of anyone serving in the national guard. Btw, how many of them know how to drive school buses? Don't they require a special license?
Definitely a terrible use of the national guard, and maybe even illegal.

I would think twice about joining the Guard now. You are subject to being used by corrupt leftist governors and Pelosi to carry out their repressive policies. Once you are committed you have almost no legal option to refuse their unlawful orders.

The National Guard should be on the Border keeping the Covid spreaders from illegally crossing our borders.

I hope the Guardsmen wear fatigues and carry their rifles. That might keep the little rug rats in line.

This shortage has nothing to do with Covid. These "communities" are all sh**holes where guns and gangs are rampant. No one in their right mind would take a job there much less expose life and limb on a "school" bus what a joke average age of little Johnny is about 19. You can't even GIVE away real estate in these places. I should know I am from one of them.

fully 10% of Chick-a-go driver quit ...in response to being ordered to get the Jab.
How much extra/covid/stimulus money did these districts receive over the last year when school wasn't even in session?
Why would the Feds being paying this "new" cost??
Don't most of these areas already have public transportation in place?
Every kid that lives a measured mile or less should be walking everyday anyway...particularly those 45+% that are already obese.

Back in the day, I rode the long bus to school westward across the tracks of the Atchisson Topeka and Santa Face railroad. That position at the back of the bus afforded an opportunity to experience a roller coaster thrill as we jumped tracks going downhill.
I can't imagine how cool it would be if the bus driver carried a fully auto pop gun.

People in the NG probably already have full-time jobs. So let's stop that and make some drive school buses for a while. That will improve matters.
Of course the school districts will hire several new administrators to monitor the plan.

The National Guard has no business driving school buses. Let the parents get their kids to school.

Local school districts waste money left and right, lavishing fat salaries and benefits on administrators while not paying enough to keep bus drivers interested in the job. So in comes "the federal government" to pay the National Guard, which refuses to stop communist rioters but is happy toot around in buses, to triage at great expense an issue that should be handled locally.
