Japan’s former prime minister, Shinzo Abe, has reportedly collapsed while making a speech, with initial reports saying gunshots had been heard shortly before he fell to the ground.
NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, said Abe – the country’s longest-serving prime minister until he resigned in 2020 – appeared to be bleeding from the chest.
NHK said a man had been taken into custody but provided no further details. Abe, 67, had been in the city of Nara to make a campaign speech ahead of this Sunday’s upper house elections.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended the performance of the U.S. economy Thursday when she was pressed on a new poll showing an overwhelming majority of Americans think the country is on the 'wrong track.' She was asked about a bleak Monmouth University poll that came out Tuesday, showing a stunning 88 per cent of Americans who say the nation is on the 'wrong track'–and just 10 per cent saying it is going in the right direction. The IRS commissioner has asked the Treasury Department's inspector general to immediately review the circumstances surrounding intensive tax audits that targeted ex-FBI Director James Comey and ex-Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, both frequent targets of President Donald Trump's anger.
IRS spokesperson Jodie Reynolds said Thursday that IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig had personally reached out to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.
Reynolds said the agency has officially referred the matter to the inspector general. (Photos) But Reynolds insisted it is 'ludicrous and untrue to suggest that senior IRS officials somehow targeted specific individuals for National Research Program audits.'

In the wake of school shutdowns, distance learning, and widely publicized school board battles, two trends have become increasingly difficult to conceal. The first is the failure of many of America’s primary and secondary schools to educate children competently—a failure marked by distressingly low levels of student proficiency and widening achievement gaps in core subjects like math and reading. The second is the growing prominence of radical ideology in the nation’s K-12 classrooms.
Equally disturbing is evidence that these trends are largely correlated and that an iron triangle of self-interested actors is contributing to their acceleration in school districts across the country—even those esteemed for high achievement.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) may not survive the Republican August 16 primary, CNN reported on Thursday.
While Cheney “has become an unexpected hero for Democrats” and the media, CNN’s Harry Enten analyzed, CNN readers “shouldn’t mistake adoring press coverage and bipartisan bona fides for popularity in the place where popularity matters most for Cheney: Wyoming.”
Citing polling that shows Cheney the least popular member of Congress in 2021, Enten acknowledged only 17 percent of Republicans nationwide approved of Cheney’s alliance with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) January 6 committee. Sixty-one percent disapproved. More specifically, the article also noted Cheney’s opponent, Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman, is leading Cheney

More brazen lies. “I never stopped admiring John. Never said a negative thing about him in my life because I knew his honor, his courage and his commitment,” Biden said.

WASHINGTON — Pharmacists can prescribe the leading COVID-19 pill directly to patients under a new U.S. policy announced Wednesday that's intended to expand use of Pfizer's drug Paxlovid.
The Food and Drug Administration said pharmacists can begin screening patients to see if they are eligible for Paxlovid and then prescribe the medication, which has been shown to curb the worst effects of COVID-19. Previously only physicians could prescribe the antiviral drug.
The announcement comes as COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths are rising again, though they remain near their lowest levels since the coronavirus outbreak began in 2020.

New York City is now the nation’s hotspot for monkeypox after ticking up 119 cases as of Wednesday. Health officials have reported at least 605 cases of the illness across the US, which makes NYC’s tally nearly 20% of the total. Cases in the city are up by 50% since last week, leading some to point fingers at June’s Pride month celebrations, which drew some 2 million tourists into NYC. The virus spreads via skin-to-skin contact with an infected individual, prompting some experts to call it a “sexually transmitted disease.”
San Francisco has already reported outbreaks stemming from specific Bay Area Pride events, per local media outlet SFist.

Mitt Romney penned an especially inspirational piece in the Atlantic for the 4th of July, in which he itemized our national problems and then blamed us (the people who don't reside in Washington, D.C.) for them.
Mitt started out his missive with a little criticism of our crop management practices.
Even as we watch the reservoirs and lakes of the West go dry, we keep watering our lawns, soaking our golf courses, and growing water-thirsty crops.
We're told by the Left that we can't have meat because it's mean-spirited. Little did we understand that we're also supposed to feel guilty about growing water-thirsty crops

Rats, sinking ships, some disassembly may be — but apparently isn’t — required. ABC’s Rick Klein notices today what has become apparent over the last couple of months but especially after the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision. Democrats have begun to make Joe Biden the focus of their public complaints, and they’re doing that increasingly on the record.
Put that together with a recent exodus of talent at the White House, especially in the comms shop, and it paints a picture of collapse:

In the 2020 election, 81,286,365 people voted for Joe Biden, 74,225,845 for President Donald Trump.
If you’re not a math whiz, that 51.26% of the vote for now-President Biden, 46.80 for former President Trump.
So that makes a new poll all the more ominous for Biden, who has seen his approval rating plummet in nearly every poll as he struggles to handle domestic and international crises.

Three raging customers trashed a Manhattan eatery in a caught-on-camera outburst over the weekend that left two employees injured, police said. The wild scene took place at Bel Fries, a fry restaurant on Ludlow Street in the nightlife-centric Lower East Side, on Sunday at 4:10 a.m. and ended with the arrests of three women, according to the NYPD. Shocking video of the mayhem posted to Twitter shows the trio of suspects hurling glass bottles, a metal stool and other items at employees, leaping over the counter, throwing sauce all over the restaurant and destroying a plastic barrier. A crowd of people can be heard cheering

An aide for California Gov. Gavin Newsom, D., publicly criticized an employee of the nonprofit CalMatters after the newsletter writer revealed he was vacationing in Montana despite California’s ban of state-funded travel there. "SCOOP: @GavinNewsom is on vacation in Montana. His office had been loath to disclose the location until now. Montana is one of 22 states to which CA bans state-funded travel due to anti-LGBTQ+ policies. It's also likely to institute an abortion ban. More in tmrw's newsletter," Emily Hoeven wrote. Soon after, Anthony York, a senior communications advisor to Newsom and former journalist, accused Hoeven of "gotcha journalism''

Police in the Netherlands opened fire at farmers protesting against the government’s radical new “climate change” policies. The shots were fired when a tractor convoy tried to push past a police barricade, the local news reports say.
“The incident occurred late Tuesday evening on a freeway access near Heerenveen” in northern Holland, the Swiss newspaper Schweizer Bauer reported. “Farmers had blocked the road with tractors. As they approached police and their vehicles, the officers resorted to their firearms and hit at least one of the tractors,” the daily added, citing police sources.

For a long time, Saudi Arabia was one of the intellectual homes of antisemitic and anti-Israel sentiment. The Wahhabi clerics whom the Saudi royal house supported held a special animus for Jews, and that animus infused education in Saudi Arabia. Now, though, Saudi Arabia is backing away from this hostility to Israel, and its textbooks are reflecting the increasingly friendly relationship between the two nations.
Two things are responsible for the change to that dynamic. The first was that Barack Obama worked hard to set Iran on the road to being a nuclear power, something that terrified Saudi Arabia and pushed it closer to Israel.

Like a pockmarked piece of rotten wood, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has seen his government collapse over a series of petty, stupid, self-inflicted scandals, and now he's going down with it.
According to NBC News:
LONDON — Scandal-ridden British Prime Minister Boris Johnson capitulated to mounting pressure to step down Thursday, announcing his decision after days of high-profile government resignations and calls from fellow Conservative Party members to quit.
“In the past few weeks, I have been trying to convince my colleagues it would be eccentric to change governments

When discussing the “historic” levels of events or milestones, it’s often helpful to put a topic or timeframe into perspective. Therefore, consider these aspects from the period of June 1993. President Bill Clinton and his sidekick First Lady Hillary were still in their first term in office. Justin Bieber’s mother had presumably just become pregnant with the future pop star, who wouldn’t be born until the following March. And tennis stars Steffi Graf and Pete Sampras were preparing to conquer their competition at the upcoming fortnight at Wimbledon.
Indeed, June 1993 was a very long time ago. It was also the last time weekend ratings

You don’t need to be a psychiatrist to know that the Highland Park shooter is sick in the head.
His evil act is unfathomable, but he does fit a familiar pattern of mass killers: alienated young male stoners who appear to be in the grip of a distinctively American madness. We have known for at least 15 years that cannabis use can increase the risk of psychosis in susceptible people by about 40%, according to the medical journal Lancet.

Boris Johnson is set to resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom following months of scandals culminating in a Westminster coup from within his own cabinet. Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, the most electorally successful Conservative politician of his generation and perhaps since the days of Margaret Thatcher, will leave office in a similar fashion to the Iron Lady, ousted from power by members of his own government, including Chancellor of the Exchequer Nadhim Zahawi, whom Johnson had installed in the position just the day before.
In the immediate future, Mr Johnson will likely stay on as “caretaker” Prime Minister

Thousands gathered in Dublin on Saturday to protest Ireland’s abortion laws, as well as to celebrate the repeal of Roe v. Wade in the United States.
Thousands of people from across Ireland took to the streets of Dublin on Saturday to protest the country’s abortion regime, which many NGOs are pushing to have liberalised even further after pregnancy terminations were initially legalised in the country in 2018.

Senate Democrats want to pass a $500 billion package that would include major reforms to health care, climate change, and taxes, according to a report.
NBC News reported that Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who was primarily responsible for tanking the Build Back Better Act, continues to hold talks with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on a reconciliation package that would spend $500 billion and raise $1 trillion in revenue.
The package would primarily focus on health care, energy, and taxes. One source told NBC News that the “ceiling” for climate change funding would be capped at $300 billion, making it a significant fixture of the package.

Five weeks ago, shortly after the last mass shooting occurred, I published a two-part series demonstrating the link between taking certain psychiatric medicines and developing violent psychotic behavior, which includes committing mass shootings. Although this idea is commonly viewed as a “conspiracy theory” this label is inappropriate because there is a large amount of evidence showing this does happen, and both the pharmaceutical companies and the FDA know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the link exists. (Snip) As far as I know, Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham are the only news hosts on any network who have ever been willing to air content critical of the pharmaceutical industry,

For decades, conservatives ceded the cultural battlefield to the likes of John McCain, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and John Boehner. We were told, that if we wanted to win, to shut up on social issues such as abortion, religious freedom, immigration, gay marriage, gun rights, etc. – because to argue for life (and against abortion), for heterosexual marriage, for public prayer, for school choice, for secure borders, or for any other rights was far too contentious. Doing so would anger half the electorate.
Instead, our faux leaders said we must focus only on taxes, balanced budgets, and other fiscal issues.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been vilified by the left for decades, but a close friend who believes he’s "our greatest living American" helped tell the justice’s story through his own words in a remarkable new book taken from 25 hours of candid discussion with the longest-serving justice.
Mark Paoletta, an attorney who served as Assistant Counsel to President George H.W. Bush and played a key role in the confirmation of Thomas, became a close friend of the justice over time. Over the past three decades, they’ve vacationed together with their families and made frequent road trips to visit a New Jersey nursing home where the Irish nuns who

Jeh Johnson, a lawyer who was the Homeland Security secretary in the Obama administration, has expressed doubts about the way the partisan January 6 committee presented the “vivid” testimony of ex-White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson.
To much corporate media fanfare, Hutchinson luridly claimed that President Trump had attempted to grab the steering wheel from the driver as Secret Service escorted him from the January 6, 2021, rally back to the White House, and that he lunged at an agent.

The accused Highland Park Fourth of July gunman painted a chilling mural of a smiley-face figure brandishing a rifle on the wall of his mom’s home, The Post learned Wednesday.
The revelation of the creepy image emerged as Robert E. “Bobby” Crimo’s mom, Denise, was spotted looking downcast outside her Highland Park home Wednesday afternoon — just days after her son’s alleged Independence Day slaughter.
The eerie mural, painted on the outside back wall of the house, shows the character with a yellow happy face for a head clutching what appears to be a high-powered rifle.
It wasn’t immediately clear when Crimo painted the mural.

Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson will finally resign today, ending an unprecedented political crisis that has paralyzed the country's government after more than 50 ministers quit and told him to go.
The British leader admitted defeat half-an-hour after a shattering intervention from Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi, who was only appointed on Tuesday night in the wake of the departure of Rishi Sunak.
Zahawi told Mr Johnson that his situation is 'not sustainable'.
Until now, Johnson had rebuffed calls by his Cabinet to step down in the wake of several ethics scandals.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded over $40,000 for New York University (NYU) researchers to conduct a study on why children "favor Whiteness and maleness over other identities."
The project titled, "Societal assumptions regarding typical personhood and their effects on reasoning development," seeks to uncover the developmental processes by which children "acquire the belief that White males represent the default person – a pattern rooted in the ideologies of androcentrism (centering the experiences of men) and ethnocentrism (centering the experiences of White people) prevalent in the United States," according to the grant summary on USASpending.gov.

Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) is joining Democrats, as well as the big business lobby, in asking President Joe Biden for more legal immigration to the United States to fill American jobs.
Even as the nation’s foreign-born population has hit record highs, Thune says the Biden administration is not importing enough H-2B foreign visa workers to fill blue-collar seasonal jobs in the U.S.
