Despite a fresh face at the helm, CNN’s ratings are stuck in freefall mode. Pledging to “go a different way” as “extremes are dominating cable news,” when he took over in early May, CEO Chris Licht hasn’t yet seen the hoped-for results.
Only 654,000 viewers on average per night tuned in to June’s primetime lineup, while the network attracted 487,000 viewers on average during the day. These numbers represent a slight decline from May, even with the Jan. 6 House committee hearings.

Sounds like the "new leadership" makes lots of noise about changing things.
And then keeps doing what they've been doing (badly) for years.

"decline from May, even with Jan. 6, hearings" Maybe the decline was because of showing Jan 6 hearings.

Viewership and ratings hinge on a long history of honesty and political neutrality, neither of which has been true for many years. Their ratings will not improve in the short run no matter what new leadership announces or who they fire/hire. It is what one DOES (and has done) not what one SAYS that is important. They have destroyed their brand and I am doubtful it will ever be recovered. I can't ever see myself returning to watch.

I suspect that a lot of people are like me. There is absolutely nothing that CNN could EVER do that would make me turn on their channel. NOTHING.

Jeff Zucker succeeded in running CNN so far into the ground that it will never recover.

CNN has an abysmal reputation, and so does it's owner, AT&T, which has a ton of debt, being ran like the government, and with an attitude of force, like the government, rather than service to its customers.

The irony is that by finally showing some honesty and confessing their blatant biases, they have blown whatever cover they had for the pretense of professionalism and now nobody wants to have anything to do with them.

Here's some suggestions for Mr. Licht. Get a big broom and sweep out all the trash and debris from the CNN line up. See if you can find some 'fair and balanced' news readers and get rid of the America haters in the opinion area.

I tune into CNN only to watch the chyrons at the bottom of the screen with the sound turned off. I regret doing this to contribute to their viewership.

I tried it out but it is still ideological. Do they really think people don't see them? So since I don't want to be slapped by them over and over I quit reading.

A new direction...start with showing all the news anchors and talking heads out the front door and hire new people for EVERY on air position.

It is still the same far left propaganda organ for the Democrat party. They are dividing the same small far left-wing pool of viewers with ABC, CBS, NBC and MSNBC.

Just suppose the new leadership is serious and does everything just right. Is anyone going to go running back to CNN for their news? Would YOU trust them? Maybe in 5 or more years of reliable reporting, some people will drift back to CNN. But there are a lot of news choices today and many of them have a long history of reliability. CNN has been liberal and unreliable for 3 decades. Remember the "Clinton News Network"? That kind of bad record is not easily erased.
Further, CNN's original rise was in a unique time. They were the first, an unknown, and charged ahead. Now there is competition and CNN has a bad reputation. It will be a lot harder to be successful. I think they are dead ducks. I am surprised anyone bought them.

"These numbers represent a slight decline from May, even with the Jan. 6 House committee hearings." You meant to say, "These numbers represent a slight decline from May, BECAUSE OF the Jan. 6 House committee hearings." You're welcome.

On the final episode of the Mary Tyler Moore show, a TV series centered on a newsroom in Minneapolis, the new Station owner, played by Vincent Gardenia, has a meeting with the staff, including on air talent, Ted Baxter (who plays the part of a fool, incompetent newscaster) and the writers, including Ed Asner, Mary Tyler Moore, and Murray Slaughter.
Gardenia looks at the group, and says, "I have to go with my gut here, in solving the problem of low ratings. Is the problem in front of the camera, or behind? Ted Baxter stays, and the rest of you go."
And that was the 1970s.
