“Help wanted” and “Now hiring” signs are everywhere. Flights, construction projects, and healthcare services are delayed – or unavailable – due to labor shortages.
Hourly and monthly wages spiral. There is a growing disequilibrium between the number of available jobs and the declining pool of workers needed to fill them.
What is going on?
During the nearly two-year-long COVID-19 shutdown and economic downturn, firms cut costs by laying off millions of employees.
As a result, some in their early- or mid-60s simply retired early and never came back to work.

Mandatory vaccinations, masks, no business growth, diversity and privilege indoctrination, turned older employees into retirees. As for looking for another position, an insulting job interview with a resume cleaned of half the job experience to look younger didn't appeal either. A lot of people would have continued working, but were not going to kiss any rear ends to do it.

It may be related to religion. As time goes on, the church pushed the New Testament more and more which taught us to turn the other cheek. Liberal attitudes moved in and look at churches now split on gay, welfare, drugs and other liberal issues. In 1776 church was probably more Old Testament eye for an eye fire and brimstone etc. Back then if you were challenged, you responded Old Testament style no questions asked. Just my thoughts.

Exactly. If I had not already retired, debt free, I would have joined those who now believe that the American dream is a myth. Work your entire life to achieve an education, a house, two cars and education for the children only to have it taken away by a corrupt government so they can redistribute the fruits of your labors to the parasites that they have adopted as the new Americans. Give people back the chance to win something at the end to make it worth while. A huge reset is coming and it's not the one they have planned.

The little pizzants that inhabit moms basement, talking tough on social media, aren't looking for work. They have that degree in 'ethnic gender studies as it relates to past systemic racism' in their hands, and expect to enter the workforce as a 6 figure CEO at minimum! There's going to be a rude awakening when they're living like Venezuelans, eating out of garbage cans and the people with guns and food tell them where to go!

I haven’t heard of these so-called long-term Covid cases, where people continue to suffer the effects for months, even years? It just seem like a convenient ploy to avoid work while collecting checks.

Sitting at McDonalds (wife's idea) in Melbourne Beach FL. 3 Hispanic guys at the next table, possibly illegal, but obviously on lunch break from whatever construction job they're working.. Good for them.

I’ll never understand this whole not working concept.
If I don’t work. I don’t eat and have a place to live in.
How can anyone just not work?
Are there revenue sources and streams that provide one all of life’s living expenses without having to work for them that I am unaware of?

Shut off the Money, the Rent Allowances, Food Stamps, Free Health care and Childcare and you will see people coming back to work. It's very simple!

A lot of employers are holding out for the cheap labor coming through our southern borders. No one is saying it but this just another form of slavery. Without paperwork, a valid ID, birth certificate, SSN, work visa they won't show up on anybody's books. It's perfect, no benefits, no minimum wage, no guarantees, ghost workers. It'll be competitive at first but nobody is going to pay more than eight bucks an hour. There's a large tree company here in the northeast that shamelessly, summarily terminated all of their American employees and replaced them with Mexicans and people from central America. So if you're a home owner and one of these tree workers gets hurt on your property, you'll be sued because technically they don't work for the tree company. I can't speak for the rest of the country but it's very obvious here, hotels and motels that got hit hard by the pandemic are now renting by the week to certain clientele. I see a lot of them working fast food and low end retail. We have a local car wash that looks like it could be in LA. My wife and I used to frequent a local farm stand but now it's staffed with people who don't have a command of our language. The farm employs the rest of their families. If they respected our laws and came in the right way, I'd embrace them but this is so bad for America .

What a web is woven in American society that discourages work and promotes state support for sloth. Affluence is a funny thing. 60% of kids live in a two-parent home, and one wonders how any of those two are a birth parent. We are not far removed from a President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho administration. Does your favorite beverage contain electrolytes?

When my employer imposed a mask and shot mandate it was the last straw for me. I was granted a religious exemption (Lawd thankya Massa) but I still have to be tested every week. I am trying to line up my ducks to retire but very difficult as all of HR works from home now, which means they dont work and are impossible to contact.
I will be walking out that door early next year and taking their money for the rest of my life. And I'm bringing my experience with me. To hell with them.

My theory is that the vax mandates pushed by woke companies forced out way more employees than anyone is willing to report. While a decent percentage of the experienced (i.e. those with decades of work experience and inching toward retirement) simply decided to not work anymore, I believe some of those woke companies are now seeing huge wage increases (thank you for the inflation Brandon) as they try to fill the gaps left by the smart, experienced employees who they just kicked out. In some cases, woke companies are hiring contractors (which may include the very full time employees that the same company just fired) to do the work and the going rate for contractors is also skyrocketing.

The airlines canned those that would be experimented on but the early retirements outnumbered those by some estimates 4 times. And many retirees were at first subserviant to two injections, constant nose swabs, imprisonment in hotels and mask, mask, mask. But career fascist career bureaucrats couldn't help themselves with the power they illegally obtained and the forced third experiment and digital ID the servants had enough.

We have decimated our work ethic. Thank you LBJ. Working hard once was an honorable thing. It gave you self-respect, a sense of independence and hope of prosperity. You do not learn those basic values in school now. Many parents do try instill their work ethic and values in their children but when they go off to college everything changes. They come home radicalized, angry and entitled.
The culture rot is destroying our society. Educators and entertainment desire to sexualize our children. Video games numb their minds. Profanity and violence ladened music is poison to their souls. What has changed? Fundamentally, many Americans have rejected God. Those areas in the country where people haven’t lost their minds are places where God is respected, a good work ethic is promoted and respect is a priority. Individuals still understand the importance of the values taught in church. You do not even have to be a religious person to understand that honoring the Ten Commandments makes a real difference in how we live our lives. I remember when they were posted in our schools, now that would be unheard of.
We lost so much when our values were discarded for inclusion. I thank God every day that I live in a community that values and respects God, their fellow man and our founding. Each day we must guard against those who want to push progressivism on us. Their desire is to get a foothold in our communities and go from there and they are relentless. Protect your way of life. It really is a game changer. The vast majority of Americans want to return to the way of life they grew up and understand. They know it is best for their children. We have to protect it, nurture it and be willing to fight for it. Stop being ashamed for wanting for your children what you had as a child. Many, many people agree but are too cowed to say so. Take a stand. You will find that you are not alone. People want the old ways. They want freedom. They love this country. They want that sense of belonging that brings us together as Americans.

We’re quickly sliding down the slippery slope of socialism on our way to communism. One aspect of communism which has happened everywhere that odious system has been tried is that it removes all incentive to work, to succeed and to advance in a career. Never forget that truism from the Soviet days…

My worry/concern for those who fly are for those airline pilots that did have the clot shots and are vulnerable to a heart attack while flying. The experience pilots left because they refused the clot shot that was mandated. The pilots left behind, many of them, don't have the years of experience as the ones who left. We believe flying today is very risky for those reasons...saw videos of pilots in hospitals with heart problems from the mandated vaccine shots and their flying days are over. What a tragedy!
We have a Destroying Angel at work in our government. The Left is on a destruction mission. Is this why our govt. keeps giving these Covid vaccine shots knowing the risks? Even to children down to 5 years old and younger?

Oh for crying out loud. It's the Baby Boom, stupid.
The Boomers passed through the population and affected life all along the way. In the 50's and 60's we couldn't build new schools fast enought to house them. Then they flooded into the work force, producing all the products they were buying as they got married, boufht houses, had kids to feed and clothe and amuse. As they got older, grown up toys like RV's and vacations and boats boomed.
Now the Boomers have moved into retirement age and the work force doesn't need to be as large as it was 30 years ago because they aren't buying stuff but are trying to get rid of all the crap they bought along the way, thus the storage units sprouting up lke spring flowers everywhere.
The answer is Baby Boomers.
