Americans’ confidence in the Bible’s veracity is at an all-time low, Gallup Inc. reported Wednesday, with just 20% professing a belief that the religious book is the literal word of God. For the first time, more Americans are Scripture doubters than they are believers. Gallup noted that 29% of those surveyed said the Bible is comprised of “fables, legends, history and moral precepts recorded by man.”
Gallup said 49% of those responding took the view that the Bible is “inspired by God” but that not all of the book is “to be taken literally.”(Snip)Lack of confidence in the Bible as God’s word, the polling firm said, could

This is what the Great Reset WEC Global Economy has always been about. Everyone, conservative and not, needs to examine if they believe in the Divine, and if so, are they doing what is necessary to advance that goal. Catholics over fifty will respond that God made us to Know Him, Love HIm and Serve Him and be happy with Him in Heaven.
We stopped going to church. We stopped connecting with people who shared our faith. We stopped prioritizing taking children and grandchildren to church and receiving any form of religious instruction. And we stood silent while people of faith have become marginalized, soon to be forced into the modern day equivalent of catecombs to practice our faith in places out of sight.

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17 The Bible is the very breath of our Creator! As America turns it's back on the Bible, should we be surprised that society is collapsing before our very eyes?

I don't think Gallup has sufficient theological skills to understand the nuance of belief in or about the Bible.
Do I take the Bible literally? Well, for somethings I do. For example, I believe that Jesus rose from the dead bodily. Do I believe that creation took six, 24-hour days to complete? No. But if someone believes that literally I am not going to quibble about it. Could God complete creation in the timeframe? Of course, God could. He can do whatever he bloody well likes. But I am more inclined to believe the Genesis creation stories as theology and even poetry, not science.
So what do I believe about the Bible? ***I believe it contains the word of God sufficient for all things pertaining to salvation.*** It contains history (interpreted through the lens of the various writers -- as all histories do), poetry, hymnody, stories, facts, culture, apocalyptic writings, wisdom, guidance, letters, etc. I believe that the writers were moved along by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I believe the church was guided by the Holy Spirit to cantonize certain books.
As important as the Bible is -- and it is the most important book ever written by anyone at anytime -- the Person of Jesus Christ is most important of all. The Bible -- along with Tradition, Reason, and Experience -- points to the source of life and salvation, our Savior. For me, Jesus is the Bee's Knees. The Best. The Most. The fully human and fully divine.
My beliefs about the Bible are in line with classic Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, and Nazarene teaching. I would say the Eastern Orthodox would agree too. Your beliefs may be different. That's fine. But Gallup? What in tarnation do they know about theology?

Satan is like a roaring line rushing about seeking those whom he can devour. This country has been in a state of moral-spiritual decay for decades. No prayers in school. No freedom of religion but freedom from religion. Leftist professors in colleges teach the Bible is comprised of “fables, legends, history and moral precepts recorded by man.” So what do you expect? Let me just say that the pollsters did not take their polls among Christians on Sunday before and after church. So this is all fake news designed to spread fear and dread in people and reinforce the lie that the Bible is fake. In fact the Bible was written by men over thousands of years by Divine Inspiration of the Holy Spirit and every word in it is true. In the beginning God....

We have been going ‘downhill’ since the Sixties, when prayer and Scripture were taken out of schools…
Look at all the lies and evil these last few years, esp MSM… Sarah was correct.
OTOH, Could The Almighty be exposing all this evil, so much now in America [except for our Supreme Court and Constitution, gratefully], to show America and the World what happens when we neglect Him and His inerrant, Holy Word?
28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

They should not be doubting the contents of the Bible. Who they should be, and certainly have reason to doubt are a lot of the worldly figures who tell the people their interpretations of the contents of the Bible. You are many times better off simply reading that book and going on from there.

Since LGBQRTUVXYZ is being crammed down Americans' throats every nanosecond in TV, movies, commercials, print medium, theme parks, etc., ad nauseum, I would imagine the Biblically illiterate in America are uncomfortable with what is written in the great books of Leviticus and Romans, and other places.

“1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:1-6. KJV)
And how do we seek Him, The Triune God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, draws us to Himself.
It’s NOTHING we do.
Christ has done it all!
What did He say on the Cross?
“It is finished.”
He gives us that Blessed Faith to believe.
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Be strong and of good courage.” Joshua 1
Amen.

A small fraction of Americans have read it or have even a cursory understanding, so what's the point in asking people if they believe something they don't know what is? What percentage of kindergarteners believe in String Theory over Loop Quantium Gravity? What's the point? Song lyrics from the 60s and 70s are absolutely loaded with biblical references. Not anymore.

In keeping with end times Biblical Prophecy. They hated Me. They’ll hate you. The Bible is God’s Word. It’s always contemporary and fresh. Written over 2000 years ago, it never fails. All we can do is encourage others to open their hearts before it’s too late.

My doubts in the reality of biblical revelation have fallen greatly in the last 20 years, while my doubts in the news media and swamp critters in government have skyrocketed. Even a literal translation of Old Testament material seems more plausible now than most of the reporting in the NYT, Amazon Post, and CNN (and WHO, CDC, and NIH)...

I have to add...
Lack of trust in the Bible is made worse by the easy-believism hucksters who mangle scripture beyond recognition. Rational people RIGHTLY see these people as money-grubbing charlatans but WRONGLY assess the issue as with the Bible and not the self-serving babblers.
The Osteens, Jentezen Franklins, Kenneth Copelands, Benny Hinns and Jesse Duplantis's of the world will have much to answer for and some of that will be the disrepute they have brought to Scripture.

Like the disciple Thomas, you can doubt until the cows come home until proven otherwise. He saw Jesus but the rest of us must go on faith. That includes the Bible some of which is myth and history. There are places where the two collide, Luke chapter two is a good example. This is the birth story of Jesus. Luke says there was a worldwide census by Augustus Caesar, not true. Quirinius was governor of Syria, true. But, Quirinius did not become governor until 6CE (AD) about ten years after scholars says Jesus was born. The census was for Judea annexed by Rome as a new province. Joseph and Mary lived in Galilee and would not have been required to report to authorities. Galilee was annexed much later, then they would have been required. So, believe in Jesus but not everything written about him. BTW, the Roman 'census' was similar to the Domesday Book of William the Conqueror compiled after the 1066 invasion of England...who owned what and where did they live.

1. Considering most of the Church Leaders? It's no wonder. Our 'shepherds make the denizens of Sodom and Gomorag look saintly. It's why people leave the Churches. Churches are supposed to be hospitals for wounded souls. Instead, they are controled by those that poison the soul. All of the church leaders are trained by unbelievibg academia, who as often as not, reject any candidate whi has God in his or her heart.

Excerpt from James Burton Coffman Commentary on Hebrews
God’s Supreme Revelation
Hebrews 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
. . .the throne of God [is] a metaphor for the control center of the universe, which in the very nature of things, it is impossible for finite and mortal intelligence to apprehend fully, except by metaphorical comparison to things that are familiar. The metaphor is based upon the custom of ancient kings to elevate their favorite minister to a seat on the king's right hand. . . . .
Thus, Christ is king by every conceivable right which was ever recognized as proper and legal undergirding of kingly authority, and by all of them at once. Thus, by inheritance, by creation, by personal excellence, by divine right, by right of maintenance, by right of purchase, and by fait accompli, Jesus Christ our Lord is the lawful sovereign of all things.
Throughout the farthest reaches of the universe, the natural creations, all of them, suns, satellites, and galaxies, do his will;
and what an incredibly strange thing it is that, in all the universe, man alone hesitates and refuses to give full obedience, frequently choosing to cast his lot with Satan and the fallen angels, already doomed and sentenced.

And by no coincidence whatsoever, the influence of communism in the USA is at an all-time high, in every aspect of our lives. Gallup correctly notes that turning away from the Bible also implies that the divine guidance found within will be less influential when forming public policy, which is a big part of why the communists attack religion.
