In the theater of the absurd that passes for wokery, they ban words and phrases that purportedly trigger unpleasant emotions in the audience. These include: “Mumbo jumbo” because it’s a corruption of the name of the African god Maamajomboo. Who knew? “The most qualified person should get the job” because it triggers feelings of inferiority in persons who are not the most qualified. “Peanut gallery” because it triggers memories of the old days when black people sat there and ate peanuts. Don’t use that phrase, especially around a black person because the painful memories may reduce him (er, I mean them – see below) to tears. “Cannibal” because it triggers the Carib tribe

The projected path of Hurricane Elsa shifted slightly away from South Florida on Saturday morning as the system continued to barrel through the Caribbean, but forecasters caution there’s still considerable uncertainty about the storm’s likely course. The storm’s forecast cone shifted west, removing almost all of coastal South Florida. But some models still show it striking the region, and the National Hurricane Center said there’s unusual uncertainty in the long-term track. And the cone shows only the possible locations of the storm’s center, which means hurricane-force or tropical-force winds could extend well outside the cone. Elsa’s forward speed of 31

Massachusetts police have taken nine 'armed and dangerous' men into custody after they fled from police during a traffic stop overnight. A state trooper spotted the group - who claimed they were members of 'Rise of The Moors' at the side of the I-95 between Wakefield and Reading at 1.30 Saturday morning, and asked them for identification. The men, who were dressed in tactical-style gear and armed with both pistols and rifles, refused to comply with orders to drop their weapons and ran into woodland by the side of the road.

With its decision Thursday in the voting rights case of Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee, the court closed its term with a decision that will resonate not just legally but politically for years to come. The 6-3 decision upheld Arizona’s new voting rules in Arizona over claims of racial discrimination. While the court said it would be imprudent to create a sweeping rule for all future such cases, it was equally imprudent for the Biden administration to ignore the forthcoming decision in filing a new challenge to Georgia’s new voting rights. The lawsuit against Georgia’s new voting rules was clearly timed to beat the court to the punch,

On Thursday, the Supreme Court upheld two longstanding provisions of Arizona election law, provoking widespread trepidation among the Democrats. In a 6-3 ruling authored by Justice Samuel Alito, the Court held that it was permissible for the state to limit ballot harvesting and out-of-precinct voting. Such limitations are commonplace throughout the country, but the Democratic National Committee (DNC) took Arizona to court claiming that they violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA). The DNC lost but appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which inevitably ruled against Arizona. SCOTUS overturned that ruling. The panicked Democrats vehemently denounced the Supreme Court’s decision as an undisguised assault on democracy.

There seem to be two types of Republicans – those who learned something from the Trump era and those who didn’t. Unfortunately, there are far too many members of the GOP political class who appear to have been in a coma from 2016-2020, and the rush to return to the pre-Trump status quo has been apparent. As the minority party heading into 2022 with strong tailwinds, Republicans have one job. That job is to be the opposition. The Supreme Court’s decision upholding two Arizona voting provisions has brought a sharp rebuke from the White House. Joe Biden issued a statement that begins, “I am deeply disappointed in today’s decision by the United States Supreme Court that undercuts the Voting Rights Act, and upholds what Justice Kagan called ‘a significant race-based disparity in voting opportunities.’” The Department of Justice issued a separate statement on the decision. It promises that “the Department of Justice will never stop working to protect the democracy to which all Americans are entitled,” and urges Congress to “enact additional legislation to provide more effective protection for every American’s right to vote.”
