Swimming caps designed for natural black hair won't be allowed at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, with the sport's world governing body saying they are unsuitable because they do not 'following the natural form of the head.'
Critics have slammed the decision as racist, with one calling it an 'example of the whiteness of swimming.' The British brand Soul Cap sought to have its products officially recognized by FINA, but its application submitted last year was rejected. The company makes extra-large caps designed to protect thick, curly and voluminous hair.(Snip) The Switzerland-based governing body said Friday that it is currently reviewing the situation

And if swim caps were made separately by race, it would be racist? I can see and justify a policy that prevents equipment design from enhancing performance…think of a cap in the shape of a teardrop…and I feel sorry for those that think a simple rule designed to prevent unfair advantage was done so with race in mind.

Let all swimmers wear the 'soul caps'. And wait for someone to call the rule racist against blacks, being prepared to restrain your eye-roll before it locks your eyeballs backwards.

And it is racist to think that thick, curly hair is only found in a racist context

Trim your hair for a better fit = much less water resistance. Better yet, shave your head hair. A small price to pay for a better chance to get on the medals podium.

I'm sorry...... I just can't drum up any concern for this "issue".
I do have to ask..... However did swimmers survive before soul caps?

The rule is from FINA and they are...
FINA - Fédération internationale de natation (English: International Swimming Federation) is the international federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for administering international competition in water sports.
Oh, say it isn't so.... you mean they have racism outside of the evil white-supremacist systemically racist hellhole of the United States?

I'm sorry, but I thought Soul Caps were things busted off by a 9 Mic Mic at a birphday party on the South town Chicago habitrail.

Agree w/ #4. Many swimmers reduce body hair to a bare minimum. Some even shave in areas that are not discussed in polite company. A Kaepernick-style Afro inhibits a swimmer.

"Olympics ban "Soul Caps" for swimmers" Thank God, cake cutters in your hair are still permitted.

Black people want to be seen as AMERICAN but try real hard to be different. Their speech, their hair, and now this. I'm fed up.

Al Campanis, former general manager of the Dodgers observed that Black people can't float or swim. If true, the question of swim caps ecomes moot.

Blacks are terrible swimmers - it has to do with weight distribution. I’m with #14 - never seen a black Olympic or any other competitive level swimmer.

So if a swimmer of any other race with long hair is able to somehow fit it under regulation caps, why can't blacks??

#17, the reason you don’t see a lot of black swimmers is that they have denser bones so they are less buoyant. It’s the same reason you don’t see black people with osteoporosis.

Some things don't make sense. If a competitive swimmer wants to wear some certain kind of cap what's the big deal? If they're interested in winning races they might shave everything as many do. It seems like a cap would be between them and their coach.

Any swimmer stupid enough to wear one of those 'soul' caps should be allowed to.....it'll only slow them down, LOL!!

When I was swimming and playing water polo back in the 60's we would shave our bodies including the head to compete. Now it's racist because a black swimmer won't do the same thing as a white guy has done since the 60's.???

Everything is racist today.
When you read article from the Washington Post saying birds have a racist legacy, you know we are heading towards idiocracy.

If they want to wear it, fine. The giant lump on the back of their head will just create more drag, slowing them down. Looks like it puts them st a disadvantage.

They're big and bulky and look like they would create too much drag in any swim race. Why would a competitive swimmer even think of wearing it.

#14 and others. Look up Cullen Jones, African-American Olympic swimmer. He was part of my favorite race, the 2008 4x100 freestyle relay where we beat the French after their boasting they would "smash" us. He also swam in the 2012 Olympics.
All of us here decry the Left's hypocrisy and racism, but I see a disturbing amount of it on this board. We can't become the very thing we hate.

Everything's racist if you look hard enough. And before long, there's only a pile of rubble to be seen where once there was a civilization. Also, bLACK people aren't known as good swimmers, and so should receive a head-start or else the Olympics are racist.
