Three weeks after President Trump called the country’s attention to a Newsweek op-ed questioning Sen. Kamala Harris’s eligibility to be vice-president, angry commentators are still referring to it as “birtherism.” It is nothing of the sort. In some ways it is reminiscent of Trump’s hateful, racist, and patently false accusations that Barack Obama was not born in the United States and was therefore ineligible to be president.
