A woman from Mansfield, Ohio, may have given the most powerful speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Wednesday. She wasn’t a congresswoman, a governor, or a second lady. She was a mother — a mother who decided to give her disabled son life, a good education, and an opportunity to speak at the White House.
Tera Myers spoke about school choice, but her story began before her son was even born.
“Before Samuel was even born I was told his life wouldn’t be worth living,” Myers said. “When early tests revealed he had Down Syndrome, our doctor encouraged me to terminate the pregnancy.
A new Zogby poll on presidential approval gives Donald Trump the highest marks of his presidency and surprisingly solid numbers with blacks and Democrats.
Very few polls have been released since the Democratic National Convention. Those that have been made public show Trump making a strong rebound in several battleground states and now, an uptick in his approval ratings.
Perhaps the most important factor in the approval numbers is Trump’s surprising strength with black voters and Democrats.

The Wisconsin Justice Department revealed Wednesday that Jacob Blake had admitted to investigators that “he had a knife in his possession” when he was shot seven times in the back by Kenosha police on Sunday.
Investigators found a knife on the “driver’s side floorboard of Mr. Blake’s vehicle,” the DOJ release states. The DOJ also named the officer who shot Blake as Rusten Sheskey, a seven-year veteran of the force. The DOJ’s release said that, before Sheskey shot Blake, officers had “deployed a taser to attempt to stop Mr. Blake, however the taser was not successful.”

Here’s a little sample of that embrace. Democrats seem unable to condemn the violence.
But Democratic polling must be very bad at this point. All the indications are that President Donald Trump has pulled more or less even with Joe Biden in polls, which likely mean he is really ahead if you count the “hidden Trump” vote. A large part of it is likely the Democratic embrace of the BLM, the failure of Democratic governors, mayors and DAs to do anything about it.

Kenosha, Wis.—A man was injured after attempting to protect a Kenosha mattress store before it burned down during violent protests Monday night, Aug. 24, a day after the police shooting of Jacob Blake. The man in his 70s was hurt while trying to stop people from burning the building down, but fire leveled the building and the longtime owners are angry and emotional. Pamela Moniz and her husband, Keith McCoy, watched as the building burned.
"Is there words for it?" asked Keith. "The picture should say it all."
The couple said their co-worker attempted to protect the building.

Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old charged with shooting three people — two of them fatally — during a Kenosha protest Tuesday evening, thought of himself as a militia member trying to protect life and property, according to videos, interviews and social media posts.

An Illinois man suspected of killing two people and wounding a third during a third night of protests in Kenosha has been arrested and is now jailed in Lake County, Illinois. House Democrats are raising concerns about possible Hatch Act violations during Tuesday night's Republican National Convention, focusing on President Trump participating in a U.S. naturalization ceremony at the White House and speeches by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The Hatch Act prohibits employees of the executive branch from participating in politics in their official capacity. While the president and vice president are exempt from the main tenets of the Hatch Act, they remain subject to limitations of the federal law's criminal provisions, which include coercing a federal employee to participate in a political activity in support of a candidate.

Seattle rioters used a substance suspected to be quick-dry concrete to seal shut the door to the East Precinct, the Seattle Police Department has confirmed. At the same time, the rioter attempted to set fire to the building. Photos reviewed by the Jason Rantz Show show the concrete mix and tools used.
Now, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is working with the Seattle Police Department on this investigation.

We heard from activists and agitators that the statues had to come down, that they were symbols of an unsavory past and could not blight our town centers any longer.
In dozens of instances, the statues came down, but the protestors have not been appeased. Protestors are no longer intent on destroying statues and public property; they are now moving on to people.

But, once again, the real stars were President Trump and the cast of Americans who had been selected to illustrate aspects of his multi-front war on the political and media elite.

An “Angel Mom” whose son was killed by an illegal immigrant was pulled from speaking at the Republican National Convention Tuesday night after she retweeted a social media post containing an anti-Semitic message.
Mary Ann Mendoza said on Twitter shortly before the second night of the convention began that she had “retweeted a very long thread earlier without reading every post within the thread.”

It is a triumph of misdirection and fraud by omission. It may well be the most perfect example ever of how the media functions, not to inform, but to mislead.

Let’s be real, the warm-up acts are never the draw. For every Jimi Hendrix opening for the Monkees (true story) there’s, well, every other opening act you’ve ever sat through to get to the main event.
But the Republican National Convention has, for better or worse, managed to flip that on its head. The most memorable speakers, so far, have not been the stars.
On Monday, Nikki Haley and Tim Scott did great. But Monday night’s most important moments came from Rep. Vernon Jones and Mark and Patricia McCloskey. Jones talked about supporting Donald Trump and what kind of havoc that wreaked in his own life.

Last night a group of rioters in Seattle attempted to seal a door to a police precinct while their comrades lit a fire. The attacks last night started with a group of several hundred people at Cal Anderson park. The marched first to the west precinct and later to the east precinct: At the West Precinct — which the city surrounded with cement barricades during protests this summer — some in the crowd spray-painted the building with “burn me” and other messages, threw objects at the building and damaged surveillance cameras.
The authoritarian left isn’t content just to block speech it disagrees with. It also wants to force people into making leftist utterances and gestures.
Today, at various restaurants in Washington, D.C, BLM protesters demanded that diners eating outdoors raise their fists in support. Most diners did — this is Washington — but a few did not. Those who did not were berated.
The mob chanted “white silence is violence” at them. The statement is stupid and obviously false. If the BLM mob wants, nonetheless, to chant it, that’s fine. But not in the faces of people who are simply trying to eat dinner.
A U.S. Marine who has been out of football for over five years landed a job with the New England Patriots on Sunday after getting a tryout earlier last week.
Paul Quessenberry played defensive end when he was at Navy and last played a game in 2014. He became a U.S. Marine officer the following year, NESN reported.

The attorney general of New York is taking legal action against the Trump Organization amid an investigation into the company. Attorney General Letitia James' office in a legal filing on Monday asked a judge to force the Trump Organization to provide information it has been seeking in a probe of the company's financial dealings, The Washington Post reports. The investigation is focused on whether the Trump Organization "improperly inflated the value of Mr. Trump's assets on financial statements in order to secure loans and obtain economic and tax benefits," a filing said, per CNN.

It is now August in California.So we can expect the following from our postmodern state government. There are the now-normal raging wildfires in the coastal and Sierra foothills.
