House Democrats are raising concerns about possible Hatch Act violations during Tuesday night's Republican National Convention, focusing on President Trump participating in a U.S. naturalization ceremony at the White House and speeches by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The Hatch Act prohibits employees of the executive branch from participating in politics in their official capacity. While the president and vice president are exempt from the main tenets of the Hatch Act, they remain subject to limitations of the federal law's criminal provisions, which include coercing a federal employee to participate in a political activity in support of a candidate.

Hilarious. What were Comey, McCabe, Rice, Weissman and all those other dirtbags doing for the last three years?

Officials appointed by the President and approved by the Senate are not subject to the Hatch Act.

The Hatch Act applies to civil service employees. The President and Vice President are exempt. So is Pompeo who is an appointed member of the President's cabinet , NOT a civil service employee.

The precedent was set when the media dismissed Hatch Act violation "charges" against Al Gore for making fund raising calls from the Vice President's office in 2000 during his campaign for President.

How about the democrats operating without brains during their convention? Shouldn't that be some sort of violation?
Never mind, they never operate with brains.

Eight long years of Hatch Act violations under Obama and nary a peep about civil servants on their government owned computers with the infinite loop of pictures of the Obamas... I don't recall any outrage when Michelle Obama (trying but failing miserably to look sophisticated) at one year's Oscars by being filmed in the White House with Active Duty military behind her as props as she announced some nominees or the winner is.

Shouldn't the press, and in particular elected Democrats, know they aren't subject to the Hatch Act?
So, why would they not correct the Democrats new attack phrase (sounds like something REAL official and serious, after all) by correcting them as vigorously as they seem to want to correct/editorialize nearly any aspect of the RNC convention speeches?
After all, if they were claiming Democrats were violating the Hatch Act, you can be darned sure George Stephanopolous would be quickly pointing this FACT out.

Joaquin Castro is an ignorant jerk.
The Hatch Act does not apply to members of the President's Cabinet, like Pompeo,
That the Democrats would claim foul on the Convention, after their broad daylight thefts, abuses of office, graft, pay-to-play, and outright treason in the Obama yesars, is laughable.

Obama did campaign ads from the WH..they stopped Trump's rallies, his convention...so they could hide Biden...I remember when it was illegal for the press to endorsee a candidate....It's probably still illegal...

#13 reminded me that Mooch also appeared in an episode of NCIS which was filmed in the WH. Used to love that show but never watched it again after that stunt.

Chris Wallace, last night, whined that no Secretary of State ever got involved in a presidential campaign.
Sorry, chris, I have a framed photo in my basement standing next to Secretary of State Ed Muskie, October, 1980, holding a 'town meeting of the world' at my university. (I was the moderator. Muskie talked about the Embassy hostages in Tehran, and said it was not anything unusual - that the taking of hostages in that culture was well established in history.)

OP remarks made me LOL!! Of course, leftists would be outraged if these speeches were given in front of the little red dog house in Mike Pompeo's back yard!! It isn't the speakers or the location, its the messages that outrage them because they show leftist fecklessness, mendacity and anti-American hatred for what they really are, and these messages cannot be carefully controlled, crafted or censored.

If those supposed but bogus Hatch Act violations are worth the leftist and liberal Democrats pursuing, instead of just talking, the Democrats should swing into action with another impeachment trial of the President culminating with the Democrats again impeaching him, this time the day before the General Election. That should get everyone’s attention.
