Power outages, fires, water shortages, rising taxes, crumbling and congested highways, dismal schools, lawlessness... It is now August in California. So we can expect the following from our postmodern state government. There are the now-normal raging wildfires in the coastal and Sierra foothills. And they will be greeted as if they are not characteristic threats of 500 years of settled history, but leveraged as proof of global warming as well as the state’s abject inability to put them out.
When the inept state can’t extinguish them as it has in the past, it suggests that it’s more “natural” to let them burn.

Wow. VDH has been writing on the state of California for years, there isn’t anything brand new here, but the presentation in this article is devastating. I’m a 62 year old California native, reading this in the living room of our eventual retirement home in Idaho. We’re going back to CA in a couple weeks, I guess I should sell our CA house sooner rather than later.

The article should have mentioned CA has rabid eco-terrorists too. They've prevented the removal of brush and getting rid of diseased trees with the state's approval. You have to keep the state in its natural state so wild fires can roam free - just like the criminals do.

#1 - Sorry to lose another conservative patriot Californian.
The article picture is from Lake County, our neighbor county to the east. The smoke has been getting worse each day. We can hardly see the ridge less than a 1/4 mile from the house. TK barely lets me go out and water the garden. We're prepared and TK monitors the CDF radio transmissions. We have a detailed 3-phase evacuation plan (depending on time available) so that our vehicles are packed and ready to roll straight down the driveway when given the word by the sheriff. Thanks to TK and several neighbor men we have two alternative exists other than our main road, so we can get out without sharing the road with the fire trucks. Five years ago TK installed agricultural rain birds on the roof of the house, one for his workshop and one for the propane tank. Before we leave we will cut power to the house, start the generator and well pump, then switch on the rain birds. I believe I will feel confident if I ever have to leave my home because of a wildfire. I'm so blessed...I married McGyver.
I can't give up on my native state. When we bought the homestead in 1993 we made the conscious choice to stay in California. There is no other state where we could find our 40 acres of heaven. We won't let the commies take this away from us or drive us away. The socialist fantasy under which we now live is already imploding. It cannot be sustained and it will get really ugly. TK has made sure we can ride it out. The only bummer is that we don't have enough money to buy up prime real estate at rock bottom prices. When the fever dream of "progressivism" finally breaks, California will once again be the Golden State.
MAGA:KAG - Its for all 50 states or it ain't worth a damn.

Wow, VDH is in rare form... he truly is a National Treasure... an historic, factual, realist, more so now than normal, which reminds me, “Darkness always proceeds the Dawn.”
So many progressive systems that were futile... thankfully he’s here near an another CA patriot, Rep Devin Nunes... Two men who have grounded beliefs in America, just not CA, for now.
President Trump will continue to work with Newsom, then at just the right time, there will be consequences... Stay tuned.
In the meantime, with two Grandblessings nearby, I’ll stay in mild Monterey, the fires have subsided, powered-washed our home for soot and debris, and low tide two blocks west daily walks are a gift of God’s magnificent expansive beauty.
The best is yet to come!

Brilliant screed from Victor Davis Hanson, which covers all the bases re: California’s overwhelming problems. I rank VDH and Michael Goodwin, of the NY Post, the two towering pundits of our times.

I, too, am a California native for 58 years. Sadly, I am one of those moving out (in January, when our new outside-Cali home is finished). It's just too expensive to retire here. And now, because of these ridiculous policies, the democrat controlled state is wanting to tax all those who choose to leave their dystopian utopia. Imagine that! A tax because you can't afford to live where they've already taxed you out. Sounds like a giant jail to me.
This once beautiful, comfortable place to grow up and live has become a desert, void of water and people of sanity. Our little bubble of church and friends and family we will miss dearly. But, Newsom and his ilk are driving people out. Sad, sad, sad.
MAGA!!! MCGA!!! May the Lord be pleased to bring sanity and revolutionary thinking to the people of this formerly-great state. Will be praying for all y'all who are staying to make a go of it.
