Well, it happened. The Republican Party decided to play nice, try to get some good press with a media establishment that hates them, and join the legions of the righteous and blessed by hashing out a gun control bill during a midterm election cycle. Is everyone up there hitting the crack pipe? What are we doing? What the hell is this? We have category five hurricane gusts to our backs heading into November—and the GOP decided to do what it does best: find a new way to blow it.

On June 8, a potentially disastrous situation was mostly averted at the Freeport liquefied-natural-gas (LNG) plant outside of Houston, Texas. An explosion at the plant took place after a leak in one of the pipes released a cloud of natural gas into the area and it burst into flames. Fortunately, the gas dissipated quickly and the blast didn’t extend past the enclosed area of the compound. Local firefighters had the flames extinguished quickly and there were no injuries reported, but the plant suffered damage that will limit its output for much of the year.

We haven’t even had the 2022 election yet and talk of 2024 is already heating up. Naturally, Donald Trump remains at the top of the conversation on the Republican side, but Ron DeSantis has become nearly as talked about as a probable challenger. The latter has burst onto the scene the last two years as a no-nonsense, fighter of a governor who also has a knack for making the liberal press look ridiculous. Those are skills that GOP voters love, and they’ve earned DeSantis high marks nationally from the Republican base. That he’s also become the leader in the culture wars has only caused his star to rise further.

Yesterday’s Rasmussen survey of likely voters finds that 57% consider Joe Biden’s performance on the economy to be “poor.” That strikes me as a death knell: there is no way a president viewed in such a negative light on the economy can be re-elected. No matter how unappetizing their alternatives–Kamala Harris? Pete Buttigieg?–the Democrats have no choice but to put Biden out to pasture and find someone else for 2024.

Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch and model and actress Jerry Hall are allegedly divorcing after six years, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.
The Times allegedly heard of the rumor from “two people with knowledge of the decision.” However, no other details have emerged from Murdoch or Hall’s representatives.

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin ignored recent examples of progressive violence when he went on "At This Hour With Kate Bolduan" on Wednesday to condemn "the pervasiveness of right-wing violence."
Toobin appeared on a panel discussing the ongoing Jan. 6 hearings and potential connections to former President Donald Trump. In the latest hearing by the Jan. 6 Committee on Tuesday, state officials testified that they received several threats and attacks from people after refusing to overturn the 2020 election results.
Toobin argued those threats were further proof that "right-wing violence" is now pervasive throughout the country.

Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito released blistering dissents Tuesday after the high court limited the reach of a federal statute requiring harsh penalties for certain crimes involving guns.
The case centered around Justin Taylor, who authorities said was a marijuana dealer in Virginia in the early 2000s. Taylor and an accomplice planned in 2003 to rob money from a buyer, and the accomplice shot and killed the buyer during the robbery, according to CNN.
Taylor was subsequently charged with “attempted Hobbs Act robbery,” which is a federal crime and has a maximum sentence of 20 years.

President Biden urged Congress to suspend the federal gas tax in a speech at the White House on Wednesday.
Biden explained that the federal suspension, if enacted, would pause an 18 cent-per-gallon tax on gasoline and 24 cent-per-gallon tax on diesel. But every party still conducts the old-fashioned fundraisers, with one-on-one, face-to-face contact. They have highfalutin dinners where everyone gets dressed up in their fanciest duds and listens to politicians talk about how great they are and how much they need their money. The Senate on Tuesday broke through nearly 30 years of stalemate on gun control legislation by voting 64 to 34 to advance an 80-page gun safety bill
The Senate voted to proceed to the bill just more than an hour after negotiators unveiled its text, giving lawmakers little time to digest its details.
The Daily Wire lists exactly what the bill would do, including provisions to grant the federal government the ability to deny you weapons based on “red flags” it defines.

Notably, the 80-page legislation includes language on highly controversial so-called red flag laws.
President Biden on Wednesday will call on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for three months as Americans contend with record-high gas prices.
The gas tax holiday would cost roughly $10 billion, according to a fact sheet released by the White House. However, Biden will ask Congress to enact the suspension without harming the Highway Trust Fund, which receives funds from the tax revenue.
The president will suggest Congress use other revenues to make up for the loss, the New York Times reported.

A rock musician's fiancée will become the first person in the UK to receive £120,000 Covid vaccine damage payment after the 48-year-old died from a blood clot following his AstraZeneca jab.
The singer, known as Lord Zion, fell ill with an agonising headache on May 13 last year- eight days after having the first jab, at Penrith Auction Mart in Cumbria.
He died at Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, on May 19.
His fiancée, Vikki Spit, 39, who had spent just one night apart from him in 21 years, said her life was 'smashed into a million pieces'.

Barack and Michelle Obama's multiyear deal with Amazon's podcast platform Audible is worth at least $20million, experts have claimed.
The couple will have to contribute two shows and appear in up to eight episodes each, the industry insiders said.
The move will give the former first lady the scope to make less personal appearances than what was wanted under their former partnership with Spotify, the sources said.
Audible said the pair plan to use their new platform to 'tell stories that elevate diverse voices and and experiences'.

ABC News, in conjunction with Ipsos, found that just nine percent of Americans are following the January 6 committee’s televised hearings “very closely.”
The ABC News poll comes after the committee finished its first full week of televised hearings. The committee has held three public hearings, with four more on June’s congressional calendar.
So far, the committee’s efforts have only made a six percent difference in the amount of Americans who believe former President Donald Trump should be held criminally liable for the January 6 Capitol riot.
