A new, two-story afro pick statue was unveiled in New Orleans on Friday in honor of Juneteenth, but while Mayor LaToya Cantrell called the structure “breathtaking,” not everyone sees it that way.
"As Juneteenth approaches, we celebrated with an unveiling in Lafayette Sq," Cantrell tweeted about the 24-foot tall hair pick that has a clenched “black power” fist on top. "This sculpture is very fitting for this time & place as we celebrate the freedoms that we have gained We know that it doesn’t come without struggles, fights, and protests for 200+ years."
The imposing pick is part of the Monumental Tour, a traveling exhibition of large-scale outdoor works by Black artists.

We can tear down historic statues in the name of racism and put up offensive statues in the name of racism. Welcome to the Racist city of Latoya. She hates whites with a passion.

It's giant cake-cutter. Now we need a giant cake to cut.
And this cake-cutter only cost $6 million dollars. A real bargain...especially since all our other problems are already solved,
now with our extra money we can get a giant cake-cutter like we always told all our friends we would finally do if we ever got enough f/u money.

I wonder what was rejected before agreeing to a giant hair pick? I guess a giant DIPLOMA didn't make the cut.

Andy warhol did a coke can. So i guess using everyday things as art is not that original in 2022.
It does make you wonder about the choice. I haven’t seen anyone wearing one of those in their hair in many years but I don’t get around much anymore; are they still a fixture of black culture? I can’t really think of anything else either. Colt 45 would have been more in keeping with warhol.

As dumb as the St. Louis Arch.
And here in Erie, Pa., the homosexual pedophile president of Mercyhurst College, the late Dr. William Garvey, was in charge of the Bicentennial project for Erie, and designed a tall tower with a bulge on the top, resembling a a giant penis.

From many angles that sculpture looks like a giant erect black penis; So the last line of the intro should read :
"The imposing (d)ick is part of the Monumental Tour, a traveling exhibition of large-scale outdoor works by Black artists."

This traveling exhibit of meaningful cultural sculptures should not be limited to black artists only. That's elitist. Other cultures have symbols, too, and I'm sure the Juneteenth people want to send the message that ALL cultures have something relevant to say through their choice of symbols. Let the symbols stand on their own merit s. See how the black sculpture compares and contrasts with others. Just think about it: We'd have the heart, the butterfly, the peace sign, the raven, the dove, the cross...and the Afro Pick. Some ideas just backfire without any assistance at all. Poof.

Hair is a big thing among the blacks. They straighten it, add weaves, wear corn rows , wear wigs, dye it but mostly straighten it. That pick is a few generations , think 1960's/70's , off.

It never ceases to amaze me that the AA community "celebrates" everything destructive in their community - rap that degrades women, single motherhood, George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, Afro picks (that can double as weapons), while at the same time, denigrating education and hard work that could elevate their community.

My son in law is half black so I have a lot of blacks in my extended family. There are no Afros and all of the women straighten their hair, just like Beyoncé and Mooch. The only Afros I’ve seen in the last couple of decades were on the heads of Kaepernick and DeBlasio’s son. And they look stupid and passé.

"...we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist." - Barack Obama The one good line from the One's Inauguration Address. Apparently his compatriots in New Orleans are not willing. This thing looks all the hack Commie art in former East Germany - so very very many raised fists.
