President Biden on Thursday said his search for a nominee to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen G. Breyer is focused on four Black women. He started the search with at least a dozen Black women on his list. “What I’ve done is I’ve taken about four people and done a deep dive on them, meaning thorough background checks to see if there’s anything in their background that would make them not qualified,” Mr. Biden said in an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt. The president described his shortlist of nominees as “well qualified.” “They were honor students, they come from the best universities, they have experience,

Democrats are making a U-turn on mask mandates, just in time for the midterms.
It’s happening among the party’s governors, several of whom are easing up their masking rules as Covid’s Omicron wave fades. And it’s happening on the Hill, where Democrats are suddenly lining up to call for rollbacks of the nation’s most noticeable pandemic-era rule.
Their pandemic pivot comes as they brace for a brutal November election in which the virus — and the culture war that’s accompanied it — is shaping up to be Democrats’ biggest blind spot.

The NY Times just published a story about how Republicans got out ahead of Democrats on the inflation issue. The story credits Rep. Elise Stefanik for noticing last year that prices were creeping up at the grocery store. Back when economists were still promising inflation would be transitory, Stefanik thought this could become a big issue for the GOP.
Early last year, Representative Elise Stefanik of New York, who was then campaigning to become the No. 3 Republican in the House, began to notice that the prices of fruit, bacon, milk and eggs were creeping up.

Since early days, Democrats have pushed increasingly onerous regulations in response to the Wuhan coronavirus.
Lockdowns — which the World Health Organization disavows except in very narrow, short-term circumstances and which are unsupported by science — have dragged on and on. Teachers unions kept schools closed month after month in blue states, and even children as young as 2 are being forced to mask despite no scientific support for doing so. Indeed, masking has become a political statement, to the point that Democrats routinely report wearing masks outdoors

Critics ripped the Department of Defense on Wednesday for a woke tweet promoting the need for “diversity” and “inclusion” in the military. The tweet linked to a news story about remarks Bishop Garrison, the senior advisor to the secretary of defense for human capital and diversity, equity, and inclusion, made to the Center for a New American Security. Garrison said the need for diversity, equity and inclusion to be a consideration or a part of all decisions in the military. "I would hope that as many leaders and members of the total force as possible see [diversity, equity and inclusion] efforts as a force multiplier," he said.

Investigators with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service frequently work to thwart a variety of environmental offenses, from illegal deforestation to hunting without a license. Across the federal government, agencies that don’t use Cellebrite technology are increasingly the exception, not the rule. Federal purchasing records and Cellebrite securities documents reviewed by The Intercept show that all but one of the 15

Protesters from the Canadian trucker convoy took their message to the capital city's busiest airport Thursday morning, slowly circling the airport's arrivals and departures lanes and honking their horns.
About 70 trucks were making the rounds "in an attempt to disrupt operations," the Ottawa International Airport Authority said in a statement.
Pat King, one of the convoy's key organizers, claimed on Facebook, "We're having a parade."
He added that they had been circling the airport for about two hours and didn't have plans to stop.
The City of Ottawa sent out a tweet warning passengers to "expect delays" and that the duration was "unknown."

The IRS cost the government more than $400 million over the last three years because it didn’t bother to fix broken mail machines, the agency’s inspector general said in a new report Thursday. The machines are supposed to automatically identify which envelopes contain payments to Uncle Sam, so they can be quickly processed and deposited. But the 20-year-old machines are in such disrepair that they kept missing envelopes with remitted payments. Employees shut them off and resorted to looking for payments by hand—a much slower process. The delays meant checks were deposited more slowly, costing the government hundreds of millions of dollars in lost interest payments, the inspector

It is beyond debate that the Democrats have behaved badly for a number of years now. They’ve conducted two sham impeachments of Donald Trump based on false evidence, or no evidence at all. They have removed Republicans from committee assignments for infractions that pale in comparison to the violations of Democrats. They have violated Congressional rules with impunity – even to the point of refusing to accept minority party assignments to a select committee.
Yet there are those on the Republican side that say they should resist responding in kind, when the Republicans inevitably ascend to the majority.

I’m not just talking about NBC’s pathetic coverage of the Beijing Olympics that nobody is watching, though that’s an indication.
Nor am I talking about the well-known polling that rates the media’s popularity somewhere below Congress, if such a thing were possible. That’s been going on for a while.
It’s more.

An arsonist who murdered a father of five during the George Floyd riots was given a reduced sentence after the federal prosecutor in Minnesota asked the judge for leniency because of the arsonist’s “legitimate frustration with the criminal justice system,” according to the Washington Free Beacon.
For some Republican members of Congress, the 12-year sentence suggested by prosecutors, when guidelines called for 20 years, proved too much to accept.
The arsonist, 26-year-old Montez Terriel Lee, tried to claim he didn’t intend to hurt anyone. But it was the prosecutor’s reasoning that strikes any reasonable person as ludicrous.

Does the United State actually have a president? The answer to that question largely depends on what day it is. Sometimes, Joe Biden will show up to give a pre-written statement to the media, and once every three months or so, he’ll actually answer questions from hand-selected reporters. Other than that, though, he has a habit of making himself scarce while his handlers gaslight about how hard of a worker he is.Biden has provided another example of that with an inexplicable decision to send Kamala Harris to the Munich Security Conference, where the President of the United States normally speaks.

The North Carolina Board of Elections claims it has the power to prevent Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) from running for re-election because of his alleged role in the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol building.
Liberal activists had filed the challenge last month using an obscure “disqualification clause” in the Constitution — Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment — which was ratified after the Civil War to prevent Confederate officials and those who supported “insurrection” from returning to office.
The problem for the activists is that Cawthorn never supported an “insurrection.”

Back in 2013 then vice president Joe Biden told a sometimes serious and sometimes jocular story about the two brain surgeries he needed in 1988 to deal with cranial aneurysms.
Biden told the White House audience “they take a saw and they cut your head off” and “they literally had to take the top of my head off.” He also recounted that as he was being wheeled into surgery he asked the neurosurgeon, “What are my chances of getting off this table completely normal?” The surgeon told Biden he had a better chance of living—and that that chance was in the 35 to 50 percent range.

It’s been one of the greatest sources of tension between House Republicans and Democrats for a year now: a chamber-wide mandate requiring lawmakers to mask up before they vote — and steep fines if they refuse.
But now some House Democrats are following the lead of Democratic governors, calling for an end to mask mandates — even as their party imposes one in the House chamber. Charges of hypocrisy are in the air.
Last year, House Democrats enacted new rules that fine offenders (namely protesting Republicans) $500 the first time they fail to mask up, and $2,500 per infraction after that.

President Biden insisted Thursday that passage of his nearly $2 trillion spending plan would ease the pain of four-decade-high inflation figures — despite a key Democrat repeatedly insisting the measure has no hope of passing. “Inflation is up. It’s up,” the president acknowledged during an event in Culpeper, Va. “And coming from a family when if the price of gas went up, you felt it … it matters. CORRECTION*

A school district in Enfield, Connecticut was left with pie on its face after asking eighth-graders to share their sexual desires in the form of pizza toppings. 'Now that you know this metaphor for sex, let's explore your preferences!' explained the instruction pamphlet distributed to students in a recent health class at John F. Kennedy Middle School. 'Draw and color your favorite type of pizza,' it added. 'What's your favorite style of pizza? Your favorite toppings? What are your pizza no-nos? Now mirror these preferences in relation to sex!'As if that wasn't explicit enough, the instructions offered some suggestions. 'Here are some examples:

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy has conceded that January 6th was a 'violent insurrection,' saying he agreed with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's description of that day. 'No one would disagree with that,' McCarthy told reporters on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. His clarification comes after McCarthy was mocked by Democrats for walking away from an ABC News reporter who was asking him about the Republican National Committee censure of Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney for serving on the committee investigating the insurrection.

Rear Adm. Peter Vasely, the top U.S. commander in Kabul during the evacuation, said that the withdrawal was made more chaotic by people like First Lady Jill Biden, Pope Francis, the White House and Congress calling in for special favors to help get out certain people. Vasely said the Pentagon was being pulled in all different directions from Biden officials, lawmakers, members of the media and even the Vatican as it carried out the largest evacuation since Vietnam ahead of the Taliban takeover.

Why did Mitch McConnell break ranks with the Republican National Committee and insist, contrary to a growing mountain of evidence, that the Jan. 6 incident was “a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent a peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election from one administration to the next”? A clue came on Tuesday, when Larry Sabato, a popular far-Left historian, tweeted: “Of course it was a violent insurrection. Shame on every Republican, especially Members of Congress, who haven’t declared as much. Next: Admit Trump plotted a coup to steal a 2nd term. Then invoke 14th Amendment, Section 3

In his preface to The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis remarks, “There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.”
I started thinking about Lewis and that quote while listening to a podcast on Wednesday that mentioned a woman who had been arrested for human trafficking at the southern border and whose reaction appeared to be right out of The Exorcist.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) has slammed the Department of Defense for ignoring his letters regarding a military health database that allegedly showed an increase in troop illnesses after the Biden administration’s military vaccine mandate began in August, detailing his concerns in a letter exclusively obtained Wednesday by Breitbart News.Attorney Thomas Renz, who is representing three DoD whistle blowers, presented findings from the database during a January 24 roundtable hosted by Johnson that showed a spike in the average number of troops diagnosed with miscarriages, myocarditis, cancer, and other serious illnesses from the period 2016-2020 compared to 2021.

We have previously reported on the troubling stories of the Capitol Police surveilling Republican members of Congress, their staff, and even people with whom they are meeting.Republicans are now calling on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Chairwoman on House Administration Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) to investigate, noting that this raises serious constitutional concerns. The Republicans wrote that the report revealed the Capitol Police are also “monitoring the online activity of congressional staff and individuals who meet with Members of Congress” and that the force is “reviewing property tax information” to learn the owners of the buildings

The U.S. inflation rate hit a 40-year high in January, with prices rising 7.5 percent from last year, the Labor Department announced on Thursday. It's the highest spike in consumer goods since 1982, a certain blow to President Joe Biden's record with American voters less than a year before the crucial midterm elections.Prices rose by 0.6 percent from December, going up for the sixth consecutive time and signaling the months-long surge that's been hitting Americans in the pocketbooks is not slowing down. The average U.S. household spent an extra $250 per month as prices have leapt, according to a new analysis published in the Wall Street Journal on Thursday.

Sweden halted its COVID-19 testing regime on Wednesday, even for those who are showing symptoms of infection, as many European countries end pandemic restrictions, the Associated Press reported.
The country’s mobile city-square tent sites, drive-in swab centers and home-delivered tests, which each provided key data to track the virus’ spread, have ended, the AP reported. Only symptomatic health and elderly care workers and the most vulnerable will be entitled to free PCR tests moving forward. “We have reached a point where the cost and relevance of the testing is no longer justifiable,”

A new Toyota commercial featuring Colin Kaepernick claims the former NFL quarterback's controversial national anthem protest was a "sign of respect to the military." The ad, which aired Friday morning on Howard University's radio station, says Kaepernick's decision to go "on one knee" during the national anthem "came as a sign of respect to the military" and "changed the world." The commercial also calls Kaepernick a "two-time Super Bowl quarterback," which is false. Kaepernick appeared in one Super Bowl, a 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

If you think the highest overall inflation rate in 40 years of 7% is bad, get ready for a real shock coming to a pump near you. Oil prices are surging so much that, ironically, even the "Green New Deal" president is begging global and domestic producers alike to ramp up production and pump, pump, pump! And despite his releasing millions of barrels of crude from the strategic oil reserve and pleading with oil-rich nations to increase their output, prices continue to climb.
In early December, oil was trading at $65 per barrel. Today, it's over $90

Almost forty years ago, KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov warned of an assault on the West via leftist ideological subversion. (snip) our enemies have been able to erode respect for the sacred ideals of the West -- individual rights, free enterprise, law and order, national sovereignty and limited government. They have enmeshed us in a non-kinetic World War III. Most citizens of democratic societies don’t even realize it’s taking place.
Over the decades, the fronts in this invisible war have multiplied. This is in keeping with Unrestricted Warfare, a 1999 book on strategy by two Chinese air force colonels

Andrea Babinski never imagined she would be forced to get a vaccine to keep her nursing job.
“When people would say stuff like, ‘Oh, mask mandates today and slippery slope to vaccine mandates tomorrow,’ I thought, ‘No, that’s crazy. That sounds like a conspiracy theory, like wacko people,'” she said.
For the medical-surgical nurse who worked at Gundersen Health Systems for 12 years, it was never about politics. Due to several autoimmune issues, Babinski decided medically the shot was not the best decision for her.

A watchdog group is pressing the Department of Homeland Security to disclose its methods behind a new domestic terrorism threat bulletin that warns of “the proliferation of false or misleading narratives” as a cause of undermining public trust in the federal government. The Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) said it will file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking the basis for the DHS bulletin. The group said the Biden administration’s policy involves “the use of the domestic security state to potentially target political opponents, squash free speech and deliver federal dollars to special interest allies.”

“Operation Washout 2.0,” a law enforcement operation involving multiple agencies in Central Texas, resulted in the arrest of 250 individuals, including felons and gang members, and the seizure of weapons and narcotics, authorities announced Wednesday.
“Most these individuals were not your typical ‘outstanding citizens,’” said Robert Garmon, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal.
Funded and led by the U.S. Marhals Service, the operation focused on countering gang activity in specific areas of McLennan, Bell and Coryell counties.
“This is what our citizens expect us to do is come together, put egos, attitudes, put all that away and come together and make our community safe,” said Todd Snyder, DPS Central Texas Regional Director.

So it should be no surprise that Democratic politicians across the nation are discovering the wisdom of ending their wildly unpopular and draconian COVID lockdowns and masking regimes.

After shunning her native country and choosing to compete for China, many have questioned US-born Olympic freeskier Eileen Gu’s true allegiances. However, there is one group that Gu proudly associates with, Black Lives Matter.
In March of last year, the California native gave an interview to the South China Morning Post, in which she called herself an “ally” of Black Lives Matter. In the article, Gu lamented the rash of anti-Asian hate crimes occurring across the country. Gu said that she and her grandmother had fallen victim to such an attack.

On February 9, 2022, Andrew W. Coy asked, “What’s the Deal with Mike Pence?” One thing is that former Vice President Pence was always a weak leader.
While he was governor, Indiana passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 2015, which essentially clarified a federal law that Democrats overwhelmingly sponsored and President Clinton signed into law. Then-senator Barack Obama supported a similar state law in Illinois. Indiana’s version simply stated that, in civil cases, courts could consider religious burdens that the conflict caused. The law never said religion would trump any other right.
