A new Toyota commercial featuring Colin Kaepernick claims the former NFL quarterback's controversial national anthem protest was a "sign of respect to the military." The ad, which aired Friday morning on Howard University's radio station, says Kaepernick's decision to go "on one knee" during the national anthem "came as a sign of respect to the military" and "changed the world." The commercial also calls Kaepernick a "two-time Super Bowl quarterback," which is false. Kaepernick appeared in one Super Bowl, a 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Right. And I'm sure the survivors of anyone ever lost in service to our country would agree with that. Sorry, but....no.

How can these large corporations be so tone deaf to their projected audience?
This ad will do for Toyota what the "toxic masculinity" ad did for Gillette.
I hate Budweiser, but they have great, positive ads that focus on horses and dogs.

Seriously, what is wrong with the executives at these companies? I'm really starting to think they are all mentally ill because nothing else explains it.

Sheer gall of these ingrates. We do t need any lectures from these folks at any time on any subject but definitely not this one. They should be thankful that we helped them reconstruct their country from the bottom up shut up and go back to being busy little bees working to build cars and stuff. If this offends you- TOUGH.

To state that is extremely insulting. When our anthem is played , civilian Americans put their hand over the hearts. No one kneels. Ever.

Re#4: “Seriously, what is wrong with the executives at these companies?”
Great question. I have the answer. Most of these executives were most likely raised by single mothers and indoctrinated in America-hating universities. That is all.

colon's kneeling was about him being 4th on the quarterback depth chart. He was about to be released. After kneeling the 49'ers couldn't release him without being called racist.

Sure Toyota sure. Now maybe you could address the problems with your transmissions in your newer cars that are threatening to cause accidents for the owners. When seconds count at an intersection, a driver doesn't want to spend more than three of them waiting for the engine to kick in so you can get out of the way.
Honda and Mazda are what we have owned in the past and will again.

South Park solved the problem by saying that anything a person does during the playing of the National Anthem, whether it be standing, sitting, kneeling - is a sign of respect.

The sound is a bit cheesy. It doesn't sound professional. And the content is very offensive to a majority of Toyota's potential market. One wonders if this is an actual Toyota ad. I know companies do stupid things but Toyota isn't exactly headquartered in a racist free country. One wonders if the senior executives in Tokyo get tingle up their leg with this ad.

Whom ever made up this story is crazy. Respect for the military? No. This is not related to anything military. Who, in the military, past or present, would accept this garbage? I am a Navy vet. Kapernicky and whomever wrote this piece can go find a tree with a rope and relieve themselves.

Was this supposed Toyota Ad. produced locally and played only on a Howard University radio station, or is it the start of a national Toyota radio Ad. that will be played across the USA? We will know soon.
A Japanese Corporation, like Toyota taking it upon themselves deciding what is a “sign of respect” to the US military by a controversial US domestic politicalized figure such as Kaepernick is a dangerous endeavor, because of the American people’s remembrance of the Pacific War that was started by Imperial Japan with a sneak attack on the US military at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. That war killed millions of people including large numbers of the US military before Imperial Japan finally surrendered in September, 1945. A good portion of the current US population still remembers all that, and are the people who have the wherewithal to purchase Toyota motor vehicles. So if that Toyota Ad. Is broadcast nationally, and was not a fluke aimed at Kaepernick and his limited supporters in the Howard University setting, the Ad. will be bound to be a disrespectful slur against the US military by many that could certainly adversely impact on Toyota motor vehicle sales throughout the USA. We will have to see how the Toyota leadership responds to this issue.

Yes, it's a "sign of respect" in much the same way as a kick to Kaepernick's butt would be a kinetic sign of respect for him.

Toyota's ad line is "Let's Go Places" With this ridiculous ad featuring that racist loser Kaepernick the place where they're going is Stupid-ville. Which incidentally is right next to a town called Brandon. FT, FCK, FJB. Let's Go Brandon.

I wonder if this doesn't have something to do with United Services Automobile Association (USAA) a military related business continuing sponsorship of the NFL even after Kaepernick's disrespect of the country. I complained to USAA with no effect.

The problem with most Super Bowl ads is that the producers, creative people, etc. all think they are putting together the next blockbuster movie, another Gone with the Wind.
Memo: You're doing a 30 second ad to sell a product. Focus on that. That's what makes your ad effective -- Will it sell more of the advertiser's product? If the answer is Yes, it's a good ad. If the answer is No, you've just wasted a couple million dollars of your client's money. Problem is, most Super Bowl ads fit in the latter category.

Probably the Toyota company in Japan hires an ad agency "that is experienced in the US market and it's needs" and lets them run things.
An ad agency needs to be FIRED for angering customers with fraudulent propaganda.
